I found myself in intensive care once again, on oxygen with double pneumonia that wasn't responding to medication when Gosia, looking like the angel she is, showed up at my bedside. Her heartfelt compassion and healing hands pulled from me a deep-seated grief of which I'd not been aware. I quietly fell asleep. The next day my doctor came by to shake my hand and whisper in my ear "We thought we were loosing you..." and then exclaimed aloud "Look! All your tests are normal! It's a miracle." Whether your situation is life threatening or just a matter of bliss, Gosia is an Earth-Angel you don't want to miss.

cindy really knows her stuff. just finished third time detox class (first webinar--like it). each time, another piece becomes clear thanks to her personal way of teaching. lost 15lbs and a LOT of fat over 60 days, also started running again (20yrs since last time), made some necessary dietary changes, am wearing clothes that haven't fit in years, feeling lighter and better by the day. appreciate cindy's way of teaching nutrition very much :)

Dr. Kobina is a caring, knowledgeable acupuncturist & healer... and highly aware of nutrition, a.k.a. "food is medicine," which is a major plus 2 hiring him. On his first visit he gave a thorough review of acupuncture and how it may help my case. My first-ever acupuncture treatment was great. I decided to hire Dr. K for ongoing treatment since I was impressed by his professional demeanor. His treatment goals will be on a one dimensional discipline of acupuncture, I highly recommend his services. —Eduardo

Mark is the best massage therapist I have ever come across and trust me I've tried many. I commend Mark on his professionalism and attention to detail which is shown in every aspect; from the aromatherapy, environment, lotions, soothing music and his techniques. Mark is truly gifted with the ability to help you relax and just melt away during your massage. He has a customer for life. Sincerely Carol

The first time I received a medical massage was "by chance". I had torn my meniscus which made my arthritis pain even worse, so I was in a great deal of discomfort. I went in for massage only because it had already been scheduled but did not expect any relief for the pain or even wanted my leg worked on. I was so blessed to have been assigned with Hailey, She was professional, systematic, compassionate and effective in how she listened and worked with the rest of me, that I trusted her enough to let her examine the area and "see" if she could provide any relief...OH THANK GOD!!! She was amazing and helped the pain tremendously. It wasn't long before she was doing deep work in the area and I even got relief in my calf, which I had never allowed anyone to work on before. Hailey is very holistic in her approach. She listens carefully to my concerns and is also very observant of my posture, movement and responses in assessing my needs. She is very knowledgeable in various methods of treatments and adapts her therapy to what I need in a specific area. I now see her regularly and we have treatment goals to address my different needs. I feel my body is much more flexible and relaxed as a result of my regular visits with Hailey and I am thankful for her care and for our "chance" meeting.

A plant’s most basic needs are sunlight and water. Your body, just the same, has its own basic needs. As a board-certified holistic health practitioner, I use integrative healing methods that target the multiple root causes of your individual condition(s) and regain optimum health.

    About

We offer medical services specifically tailored to meet each patient's individual needs. Nutritional, herbal, homeopathic and dietary therapies are integrated into our approach to health care, so that the full benefits of prevention, natural therapies and treatment of symptoms are naturally achieved. Services offered include acupressure, acupuncture, cupping, ear seeding, dietary therapy, herbal medicine, moxibustion, preventive care and tui na. In the Western world, Chinese medicine is called alternative, complement, comprehensive, holistic and natural medicine. Chinese medicine is different from Western medicine in terminology, treatment methods and results. Instead of using an artificial drug to replace or mimic the function of some organ or suppress certain chemicals to cover the symptoms of a disease, Chinese medicine enlists the body's own defenses to reverse underlying pathological conditions and restore the body to normal function and harmony. Acupuncture and medical herbs heal diseases rather than just treating the symptoms. Our goal is to heal any disease before it is too late. Acupuncture and herbal medicine have been practiced in China over thousands of years. We combine Chinese and Western medical knowledge together to treat diseases. No matter what disease you are diagnosed with, acupuncture and herbal medicine can be used as your main treatment method.

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

    What is naturopathic medicine?

Naturopathic medicine is classified as an alternative healing method, but licensed naturopathic doctors share some of the same academic background as conventional medical doctors and can often prescribe some medications. According to the American Association of Naturopathic Physicians (AANP), naturopathic medicine is holistic care that addresses a wide range of problems including (but not limited to) allergies, chronic pain, digestive issues, hormonal imbalances, obesity, respiratory conditions, heart disease, fertility problems, menopause, adrenal fatigue, cancer, fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue syndrome. Naturopathic medicine aims to strengthen and empower the body and its organs to heal itself through low-force interventions. Here are some examples of the type of medical services often provided by naturopathic doctors, as cited by the AANP:

    • Clinical and laboratory diagnostic testing
    • Nutritional medicine
    • Botanical medicine
    • Naturopathic physical medicine (including naturopathic manipulative therapy)
    • Hygiene
    • Counseling
    • Minor surgery
    • Homeopathy
    • Acupuncture
    • Intravenous and injection therapy
    • Naturopathic obstetrics (natural childbirth)

    Can naturopathic doctors prescribe medication?

Licensed naturopathic doctors can prescribe some pharmaceutical medication. Naturopathic doctors complete academic training similar to that of conventional physicians: a bachelor’s degree with a focus on pre-med studies, followed by a four-year residential naturopathic medical program whose first two years have a similar foundation to that of a conventional medical school. After completing their studies, they must pass a post-doctoral exam. Although licensed naturopathic physicians are able to prescribe medication, they usually focus on prevention rather than treatment of symptoms. A naturopathic doctor will offer a holistic approach to your care that encompasses your mental, physical and emotional health. While they will prescribe medication as needed to treat illness, they are also likely to be creating shifts in your lifestyle and nutrition to effect deeper changes in your body’s response to illness.

    Do naturopaths take insurance?

Many naturopathic doctors accept insurance, but a separate question is whether your insurance covers alternative and naturopathic services. There are several steps you can take to find out:

    • Verify whether you live in one of the 20 states that currently licenses naturopathic physicians:
      • Arizona, California, Colorado, Connecticut, District of Columbia, Hawaii, Kansas, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Montana, New Hampshire, North Dakota, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Utah, Vermont and Washington.
    • Confirm whether your insurance will cover naturopathic medical services. Read your insurance plan’s fine print, verify whether naturopathic doctors fall into your insurance carrier’s definition of a doctor, and confirm that the care you are receiving is considered medically necessary. Questions to ask your insurance provider could include:
      • Am I covered for this treatment by a naturopathic physician?
      • Do I need a referral?
      • Is there a list of approved naturopathic doctors in my network?
      • What will the co-pay be?
      • Are there limits to my naturopathic coverage?
    • Before seeking medical care, it’s key to understand the difference between a naturopathic doctor and a naturopath. Anyone may advertise themselves as a naturopath, while to be a licensed naturopathic doctor, a person must complete academic and clinical training.

How do you find a good naturopath?

It’s important not to get misled by the title “naturopath” when searching for a naturopathic doctor. A naturopathic doctor is a licensed professional, while anyone who so desires can call themselves a naturopath. A naturopathic doctor has completed eight years of schooling and is licensed to provide high-quality medical care. When searching for a naturopathic doctor, a good place to start is by researching your state’s licensing and regulatory body for that profession.

Currently, 20 U.S. states license the practice of naturopathic medicine. For those seeking holistic, body-centered healing solutions, a naturopathic doctor can be a good fit. They use natural medicines as well as treatments such as electrotherapy and ayurvedic medicine to encourage the body to heal. Once you have determined a list of naturopathic physicians who are licensed in your state, look for reviews, ask for referrals, and interview the physician in person or by phone to find the right care provider for your health needs.

How long do naturopathic doctors go to school?

Like conventional physicians, naturopathic doctors undergo rigorous academic and clinical training prior to practice. Typically naturopathic doctors go to school for eight years. There are currently 20 states in the U.S. that provide licensing for naturopathic doctors. According to the American Association of Naturopathic Physicians, a naturopathic doctor must complete a bachelor’s degree and an accredited four-year residential naturopathic medical program, and pass an extensive postdoctoral board examination, the Naturopathic Physicians Licensing Examinations (NPLEX), in order to receive a license or registration to practice medicine.

The first two years of the residential naturopathic medical program cover many of the same areas of study as conventional medical schools. Naturopathic doctors provide primary patient holistic care. The goal of naturopathic medicine is preventative care and a focus on low force intervention healing methods. This can include natural medicines, acupuncture, hydrotherapy, homeopathy and much more. Naturopathic doctors often work in tandem with conventional medical doctors, as the two practices complement one another.
