I had a private training session with Dee Cee, and it was worth every penny! She has a real passion for training dogs and she is very respectful, clear, thorough and effective. My dog Gubi has behavior problems and Dee Cee came up with methods that immediately worked! She also gave me great tools and tips to use in the future. I was so impressed with Gubi's progress in just a day and I feel like I know my dog much better now. Thank you Dee Cee!!

After moving to Long Beach, I was a little concerned about hiring a new dog walker but Becky put my mind at ease. It seems like she genuinely loves my animals and sends me pictures when she's walking my dogs, feeding them and when they snuggle up with her.

I just want to say how great the staff is at Superstar Pet Sitting and Dog Walking! Barbie was my cat sitter and she did an excellent job with Brewster. I always received my pictures of him on time and he always seemed to be happy. I was exceptionally glad that when I got home the litter box was completely clean and his water bowl looked like it had fresh new water :) *its the little things* Thanks Barbie and staff!!

I was in search of a trainer for my standard Schnauzer who would pull and lunge at other dogs when walking. I could not control the dog due to my tennis elbow. After talking to more than 7 trainers I came across Steve. He went into detail on the phone on how we would address the problem. I had hope! In just two visits I was able to learn what I was doing wrong and correct it. I no longer get frustrated and my dog enjoys walking. I couldn't be more pleased with the outcome and most of all no more sore arm. Yeah.

Angela did a wonderful job looking after our fur kids! We have one dog, two kitties and a foster kitty that she watched over. She walked our dog twice a day, played with the kitties and even brought our mail in! She will send you updates and pictures if you ask her to. I highly recommend her, she did a great job!

If you're reading this review, then you are quite aware of the convenience hiring a professional dog walker can do. For example, you probably know that you're dog is not just any dog, and whomever you're entrusting their care into, you're going to need research and fact-check and then price compare, and that takes time that, obviously you don't have because you are here searching for a dog walker. And trust me, there is nothing wrong with that. Alison was a Godsend to me. Other than my boy, I live alone. And I work. And sometimes, work doesn't end when I think it might. Having Alison visit Winston each afternoon, gave me the piece of mind I needed, so I could focus on what it is that is going to keep me at my desk for a while yet. Alison was so good to him. And I could tell from her messages, that they were really quite compatible. Winston is not an easy dog to control, when he wants to chase something. I was impressed with how Alison handled him in those instances. Look, save yourself some time, save yourself some worry, and book a meet and greet and see if you don't agree with all I'm going on about.

As all worried dog owners can relate, I'm extremely picky when it comes to who I let take care of my dog. However, I recently used L.A. Doggers Walking Service and could not be happier! They treat your dog like one of their own! My dog walker easily answered any questions I had; she even asked if there was anything to be aware of (e.g., other area dogs or cats to watch out for, busy streets, etc.) just to make sure the walks would be completely, totally safe. I'm proud to say L.A. Doggers is now my go-to source for dog walking. The prices are more than reasonable and you won't find a more loving, committed dog walker anywhere else! Doggone it, it's the truth. Call the Doggers!

Jessie is knowledgeable and reliable about walking dogs. She has some training experience. My dog is very leash reactive and I'm not totally comfortable letting him go with someone without my supervision. Jessie was willing to let me do that. For now, I've postponed dog walking, but not because of Walk'n Wag'n. They seem to be a reliable and professional company. I would recommend them.

At the last minute I required a sitter for my special needs senior dog Xena. Alicia came over and immediately I knew we had found the right fit. Xena requires lots of potty breaks with the use of a sling which can often scare people and Alicia was happy to take on the challenge. I would recommend her to anyone!

George has taken care of our 2 dogs several times and we are so happy and thankful. We always know our dogs are in such good care with George. He spends time with the dogs and doesn't just run in to let them out or feed them and then leave. We very highly recommend George to care for your beloved pets!

My dog was at home alone while my wife and I were working throughout the day. Being at home for five hours at a time. I noticed she was getting bored and in need of extra attention maybe a walk during the middle of the day. I saw Jarod walking other dogs in my neighborhood and decided to look up the company. There rates are reasonable and service is excellent. They spend so much quality time with our dog while we are at work. We can really tell a difference in our dog since they have been seeing her. I would highly recommend Truly TLC if you are looking for a dog walker!!

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What does a dog walker do?

We all know our dogs love going on long, adventure-filled walks, but jobs and family and commuting can make it difficult to give them the leash time they deserve. You can hire a professional dog walker to make sure your furry friend gets adequate exercise and outdoor time each day. A professional dog walker may be an individual contractor or work for a dedicated dog-walking company. In either case, you want to make sure the pro has the appropriate insurance in case of an emergency. Some people opt to give the dog walker a key to their house; others to have them pick up the dog from the yard. Dog walking can happen as often as multiple times per day, or just a few times a month as needed. Here are some questions to ask when you are interviewing a new dog walker:

  • Will you or someone else be walking my dog?
  • Do you have a backup plan if you can’t make it for a scheduled walk?
  • Will you walk my dog by itself, or do you walk several dogs at once?
  • What are your different walk routes?
  • When will you pick up and drop off?
  • How will we communicate?
  • Do I have to commit to a schedule or are you flexible?
  • What’s your cancellation policy?
  • What’s your response plan if my dog gets injured or becomes sick?
  • How and how often do I pay you?
  • Do you offer package pricing if I buy multiple dog walks up front?

How much do dog walkers charge?

The cost of dog walking depends on several factors including length and frequency of dog walks, the number of dogs on the walk, distance to your house, and any additional services you request. The national average cost range for a dog walk is $10-$20, but that price will vary based on where you live in the country and the regional cost of living and doing business.

The longer the dog walk, the higher your costs will be. Dog walkers offer a range of walk lengths, from 15-minute potty breaks to long hikes of 120 minutes or more. For example, a dog walker may charge $15 for a 15-minute walk and $35 for a 35-minute walk. Requesting that your dog be the only animal on the walk will typically mean a higher cost than if you permit your dog to be walked in a pack of dogs. You may be able to get a discounted rate if you have more than one dog to be walked. For example, a professional dog walker may charge $28 for one dog or $33 for two dogs on a 60-minute walk. If you need additional help — like feeding the dogs or giving them medication — dog walkers may be able to provide this service at an additional fee. Dog walkers may charge higher rates for walking your dogs on holidays.
