I noticed that my freezer and fridge were getting warmed and were not staying cold or cooling down when I tried to lower the temp. I feared the worst, and hired Serviz, as I was grateful for their free assessment of the situation. They sent Rich the very next day, who arrived right when expected, was professional and friendly and helped to do the repair the same day. The original quote was very reasonable, but upon commencing the work, it turns out the issue wasn't what he originally thought it was, and was actually something simpler and cheaper - how often does that happen? He happened to have the part available on him and was able to do the repair that same day. He was a pleasure to have in my home, was very personable and trustworthy and I would definitely hire him again. If I need any appliance repair in the future, I will definitely call Serviz and I would specifically request for Rich because he was fantastic!

Gary was great to work with throughout the whole process. During our initial discussion, he diagnosed the issue and provided a quote to repair my clothes dryer. He showed up as scheduled and completed the job without any problems. Dryer is now working like new. I will definitely call him again should the need arise.

I hired Benjamin to take down a cabinet, building a shelf for my dryer & re-paint my bathroom ceiling. He did an awesome job on everything! He even arrived a few minutes before his scheduled time. He also helped me clean out my bathroom exhaust fan & re-attach it for me. He's going to be giving me a quote on powerwashing my complex. He does a little bit of everything, including electrical work. I will definitely be calling him for future projects. Thank you!

Gabriel was wonderful! He was quick to respond to my initial inquiry, and fast to schedule our dryer repair. He was honest, thorough and very reasonably priced. Though I hope we don’t have another appliance issue, I would hire Gabriel without question!

Washing machine repair, loud thumping during the spin cycle. Used Thumbtack for the first time and Euro Appliance Service was one of the bids I received. They were able to come the same day, assess the problem, the washer needed new shock absorbers and ordered them the same day. The parts came at end of next day and Anna called to schedule the repair first thing on the following day. They showed up at the time given, fixed the problem, showed me the worn parts and the washer is working now. Since they were able to get the parts for cheaper than the original quote, they passed the savings on to me. I really am pleased with the whole experience, their promptness, communication and work.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does refrigerator repair cost?

Refrigerator repair generally costs a fraction of the price of a new fridge and shouldhave your appliance up and running again in no time. The problems your refrigerator is experiencing and the parts required to fix it will affect your repair costs. Where you live can affect labor rates, which will raise or lower your costs. Here are some examples of average costs:

  • Diagnostic fees: $50-$100. Repair pros often have a service call fee or diagnostic fee to account for their time traveling to your location with all their tools to assess the problem. If you choose to have them repair the fridge, most pros then credit this fee toward your repair cost.
  • Parts: $20-$500. A new compressor averages $200, an icemaker $300, and computerized components such as touch screens and control boards average $300 or more.
  • Basic repairs: $180-$400, including parts. This price range can include repairing the evaporator or fan motor.

How long do fridges last?

Refrigerators can last 10 to 20 years, although the most common lifespan is about 13 years. If your fridge is acting up, consider its current age when deciding whether to invest in repairs or buy a new one. Common easy fixes include faulty thermostats, dirty coils and clogged drain lines. Thermostats and dirty coils can be generally be fixed for an average cost of $80-$100. Clogged drain lines, which usually cause leaks, can often be fixed for under $200.

More complex refrigeration repairs such as replacing a bad compressor or replenishing low refrigerant can cost more because of expensive parts and higher labor. A new compressor costs an average of $200, not including labor. If labor is an average of $75-$100 per hour, and the repair takes 3 hours, you’re looking at roughly $500. Consider the age and purchase cost of your fridge; investing $350 in a $600 fridge that is 8 years old may not be cost-effective.
