Ms. Sonya, by far, has been the best piano teacher (actually best teacher/educator) for my 9 year old daughter. My daughter started piano at 7, went thru a couple of other teachers before we found Ms. Sonya. She is compassionate, caring, thoughtful, and just knows how to teach children. She is warm, kind, and encouraging. She has a way to teach without every showing loss of patience, and is able to describe it in a way for a 9 year old to understand. Although we cannot have in person lessons due to COVID, Ms. Sonya makes remote lessons a breeze and my daughter is still able to acquire the necessary skill sets to accomplish difficult piano pieces. In fact, my daughter presented a Christmas song she wanted to play to her previous teacher, but that teacher said she could teach after she reaches a certain “level.” My daughter asked Ms. Sonya after we decided to part ways with the previous teacher, and not only did Ms. Sonia say okay, my daughter was able to complete this very difficult piece (Bell Carol, by David Hickens) in 2 months! We’re still 6 months from Christmas, and I thought it would take my daughter at least the whole year to learn it! We are so appreciative of Ms. Sonya’s guidance. I normally do not leave reviews, but I had to leave a glowing review because it is so worth it to let others know what a caring and nurturing teacher Ms. Sonya truly is. She just knows how to pull out the hidden talent from my daughter. I just wish we found her sooner! I would recommend her without hesitation. She also has a pretty amazing resume too!May 26, 2020Verified
Sonya is simply amazing! I just love her energy, her spirit, and her patience as she enthusiastically engages in each lesson. She inspires and challenges me . I would certainly recommend her to any one who has always wanted to learn piano but never got around to it, like myself. Better late than never. I’m enjoying every lesson as my journey in this musical adventure continues!Jan 9, 2020
Never in my long arts career have I met an instructor as exceptionally talented, encouraging and patient as Sonya Lee. All of my immediate family took piano lessons with Sonya. She taught each of us with the individual style we needed, and Saturday mornings with Sonya brought joy and music to our home for many years. Anyone who takes lessons with this uniquely gifted instructor is so fortunate. 5 stars isn’t enough!Jan 18, 2020
It was a pleasure and inspiration to have Sonya Lee as my piano teacher. Sonya is a gifted pianist of extraordinary technical ability and musicality; in that respect, it was a privilege to take lessons with her, hear her play, and be able to have her expertise and ear be part of my own practice. Beyond that, she is a gifted teacher, kind, patient and detailed, who brought my playing to a level which I had never experienced before. I could not recommend her more highly.Jan 7, 2020
I took lessons with Sonya for almost 10 years. She is the most fantastic piano teacher. I cannot speak highly enough of her as both a person and an instructor. She molded me into a skilled and confident pianist. Right away, she found my strengths and weaknesses and shaped our lessons accordingly. She challenged me, worked with me, and deeply believed in me. She pushed me while always remaining so compassionate and kind. We played everything from classical to popular music. Beyond her exceptional teaching skills, she is the most skilled and beautiful pianist and it was a joy and treat to get to hear her play. A private concert each week! I would recommend her to anyone.Jan 15, 2020

- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?I attribute a great deal of the success I have with my students to having shared goals, and being a good match in personalities. This is why I request all prospective students to schedule a trial lesson. The trial lesson is 30 minutes, and is conducted just as a regular lesson. This gives the student a chance to see what the lessons are like, and a chance for me to assess the student's level, strengths, and areas for growth before we decide to work together. I use a variety of books and materials, and customize each student's curriculum. **All adult students are required to schedule a complimentary trial/evaluation via Skype or FaceTime to be considered for acceptance.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work? The Juilliard School (Bachelor of Music in Piano Performance) Primary teachers: Emanuel Ax and Oxana Yablonskaya
