Hi! I offer in‑person piano and voice lessons from my home in Irvine.
With over 18 years in business, I’m known for being both thorough and precise, while keeping lessons fun, creative, and engaging. For piano, I blend pop melodies with classical training using method books tailored to each student. For voice, I use targeted vocal exercises to improve pitch, tone, power, transitions and breaks, range, and overall sound quality.
I love one‑on‑one teaching, getting to know each student’s strengths and weaknesses, and breaking down problem areas until they’re completely smoothed out. My students consistently see major improvement in a short period of time.

I’ve been taking pianolessons with Janelle for about three months, and I already feel like I’ve improved and learned a lot. Her lessons are fun, and she’s really easy to work with. She is also very flexible and accommodating, which has been helpful when I’ve had to reschedule and make tweaks to lessons due to travel. On top of that, she is knowledgable, patient, and communicative. Highly recommend!

My 4 and 6 year old son and daughter have been taking lessons with Janelle for the last three months. She is an amazing teacher and as a result they progressing wonderfully. Not only that but she makes the lessons fun. I cannot speak highly enough about Janelle and would recommend her to anyone looking for a piano teacher.

We just started with her . My daughter is 11 and has been playing the piano about 4 years. We just moved to California from the east coast and found janelle through thumb tack. She is good with kids. Knows how to keep them motivated. She is very patient and nice which is important when you are dealing with kids. She is flexible. She comes to our house. Her rates are reasonable and very competitive with others. She is of course highly skilled as a musician and pianist. I think she is a great find.

We have tried three other piano teachers for our daughter and Janelle is the only one that got her interested in playing she is a great teacher who brings out the best in her students.

I always have fun doing pianolessons with Janelle. She is very laid-back and friendly, and I feel like I can talk to her like a friend. She uses good techniques, and I've learned to read music much better and play new songs very quickly. Overall, I would very much recommend her to anyone looking for a high quality piano or voice teacher!

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Yes. I work with a top vocal teacher in Orange County and we are colleagues. We discuss latest vocal developments in voice instruction and how to incorporate them into our own lessons. I am constantly learning new vocal exercises and scales and new vocal techniques to keep lessons fresh.
How did you get started doing this type of work?
I had always had an interest and a knack for helping others and have always been an excellent music student as well as an honors academic student. I felt teaching would be the best option for combining these interests. I have written and recorded my own CD of original songs and performed the songs throughout Orange County and LA, however I found that I prefer teaching to performing because I enjoy helping others and seeing results.
What types of customers have you worked with?
Beginner to intermediate in home piano lessons for ages 5 and up.
In home Voice lessons age 5 and up.
I drive to student's homes and simply require they have a piano or small keyboard in their home. I do have a small keyboard in my trunk just in case though!
I provide music theory lessons and songwriting lessons if requested as part of the overall music lesson.
