I hired Gil ( Gilbert Ramos) to replace a 2x4 section of vinyl flooring that had been damaged. I told him exactly what was wrong: the underlayment/floating had cracked at a seam that was now coming up. I told him twice that This flooring required a chemical sealant at the seams that “melted” the seam together. It’s called “cold welding”. I reminded him 2 time when he arrived. In the end it was not done. He would not let me examine it closely and wanted me to gate it for 24 hours to keep from walking on it. Two days later I examined it and it’s a mess. The floating is not level and all around there are spaces where one side is higher, with a raw edge showing. This leaves the floor vulnerable to damage. There are several places where the vinyl does not “meet” at the seam and places without any adhesive at all. I texted him and sent pictures. I located the sealant and thought that maybe using it would be enough to seal things. He agreed to pay for the cold welding sealant as it is a bit pricey. I found the product and the best price and contacted him. Nothing. I called and texted multiple times over several weeks….no answer, so here we are. 1. Said he had a license, he does not. 2. Then he said he worked under another contractor’s license, asked if the contractor knew he was doing this job and he said no. 3. Said he had been in business for 5 years then (on his thumbtack profile), then later told me he was trying to start his own business. 4. Has no business license. 5. I had to film him for a contract, I asked for a written one and he just sort of ignored it. 6. Ignored 4 requests for cold welding, 2 prior to arrival, 2 after. Did not do it. 7. Agreed to pay for proper sealant (in a text) and then disappeared and refused to answer calls and texts. 8. Did a poor job that will have to be redone despite full knowledge of all issues. 9. Marked up my floor even after I offered to put down tarp or towels. He drives a black Toyota Tundra and appears to be from La Mirada. His number is 909.631.3385. If anyone knows the licensed contractor that he says he works for, please let him know about this incident. I was once a young person starting my own business and I let that and my “mothering” instinct cloud my judgement.
