I needed a make up artist and hair stylist last December 23, 2016 for a family photo shoot and found Careli. I'm glad I did, she's great! I love my hair and makeup and it came out really nice on the photos. She took her time and listened to what I wanted. Careli is a new make up artist and definitely will be successful in the industry. She's also responsive on my text and emails so communication was not a problem. The only negative comment I have was that she was half an hour late to my appointment. Apparently, she could not find the La Quinta Resort & Club which is a big surprise as she is from the area. I would have given her a 5-star if she was on time. Anyhow, will definitely hire her again if I'm in the PS area.

Vicky was hired for my sister's makeup and she did an excellent job. I was referred to Vicky by a friend and I'm glad because she is a professional and flexible makeup artist. My sister loved her makeup for her quinceañera, the night of her party she was getting complements from everyone. I would highly recommend her to anyone I know because she is a distinguished makeup artist! I RATE HER SIX STARS!!

LGC Beauty's Laurel Yando is the best make-up artist I have ever met, and I have had conversations and my makeup done by A LOT OF females but she downright has every popular type of makeup palette, revolutionary ways to put on everything from BB creams to concealers to lipsticks to brushes she's got it all. Seriously, I would steal her makeup, but then I wouldn't because Laurel is literally a kind-heart, super outgoing and easy to get along with. Plus, her skills go beyond university, she's got techniques that you can't learn in college. You will learn so much from LGC Beauty, I think it would be your best interest to check it out

Kristal is the best! She’s very kind and thorough. I like that she takes her time to make you look your best and doesn’t rush through, which showcases her amazing quality :) I recommend Kristal to everyone who’s looking to get their hair and/or makeup done for any event - from everyday makeup to special events! I hired her to do my hair and makeup for numerous events such as: graduation, school ceremonies and when I was in a wedding(: Kristal also did the bride’s hair & makeup because the bride liked her work when the bride saw me on my graduation day! <3 Thank you for your amazing talent Kristal!!

I hired B&C to help make me up for a conference for four days in a row. I can't recommend them enough. They showed up early, paid attention to detail, had thoughtful conversation, and did an outstanding job. I'm used to getting make-up done by pros in New York and they were on that level, if not better. I loved working with them!

I'm so happy I discovered Taylor. Taylor did my makeup for my engagement photos. She asked about the location (Idyllwild), she made sure the makeup was appropriate for the location. After having such a great experience with her I knew I needed her to do my makeup for my wedding day. She made me look absolutely beautiful. I didn't want anything too heavy(because I still wanted it to look like me). She played up my best features-my eyes and lips. Everyone I spoke to complimented my makeup. If you're looking for someone to do your makeup for a special event or if you want to try something new Taylor is your girl!

Brenda is the consummate professional who arrived onetime and prepared. She had also given me instructions beforehand so I knew to have a clean face with moisturizer only. She did 2 makeup looks on me - one natural and one more dramatic - and I loved them both. I highly recommend Brenda for you make up needs especially if your a woman of some maturity. :)

I hired Emily to do my bridal party and my wedding hair and makeup. She was very flexible and came to me on the day of and brought an assistant to help as well to make sure we got done on time. She was personable and professional and I was in love with the results. I was totally that bride who asked TONS of questions and changed my mind over and over until the week of. She was always extremely responsive as made sure I was happy with the results. I have very fine hair and we did a vintage down style and even though it was hot, my hair held and looked great until the end of my reception and some. My makeup needed minimal touch ups, really only reapplying lipstick which is completely fine with me. I would recommend her highly. I felt like a princess. I would add some photos but thumbtack keeps giving me an error failure:(

Very timely. She has the art if hair and makeup down. She knew exactly how long each person was going to take which made our tight schedule perfect. Airbrush make up stayed on beautifully (in 108 degree heat)

      Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much do wedding makeup artists cost?

A wedding means love, celebration and tons of wedding photos. Professional wedding makeup artists have you looking your best on your big day and forever after in your wedding photos. The national average cost for a wedding makeup artist is $70-$100, although this price can increase based on your location, the extent of the makeup services and the reputation of the makeup artist. Most wedding makeup artists offer discounts to brides who book group services for their maids, mothers and flower girls at the same time. Wedding makeup artists who also do wedding hair usually offer package rates for hair and makeup combos. Here are some examples of average wedding makeup pricing:

      • Bridal makeup: $85-$125. Pricing often includes full face, eyes, lips, brows and false eyelashes. Airbrush makeup may be an additional $20 or more.
      • Bridal hair and makeup: $150-$200.
      • Bridesmaid and bridal party makeup: $50-$100 per person.
      • Bridesmaid hair and makeup: $100-$150.
      • Flower girl makeup: $25-$35.
      • Trial sessions: $60-$120, depending on the makeup artist. Some charge their full rate and others charge a partial rate for trial makeup services.
      • Hourly rates to stay on and keep makeup touched up throughout reception: $35-$75 per hour.
      • Travel fees: 50 cents to $1 per additional mile beyond a set radius — such as 50 miles.

Do I need a makeup artist for my wedding?

There are no rules around your wedding day, and that means it’s your choice whether to have a wedding makeup artist. If you’re on the fence about hiring a wedding makeup artist, consider the pros and cons. Some women decide against a wedding makeup artist to save money. The national average cost for a wedding makeup artist is $70-$100, which is an expense some women prefer to do without. Other women just don’t love wearing makeup. Some brides have friends or family members who are talented makeup artists willing to provide their services. If you choose not to have a wedding makeup artist, be sure to do at least two trial runs of your makeup look well before the wedding day to avoid any morning-of panic.

On the other hand, a wedding makeup artist can make the bride feel pampered and confident, giving her a flawless, fabulous look for the ceremony and reception and in wedding photos. For brides who are uncomfortable with heavy makeup, many wedding makeup artists usually excel at the natural look. Many brides consider wedding makeup part of the ritual and tradition of the ceremony, a shared experience with the entire bridal party. Ultimately your choice of whether to hire a wedding makeup artist should be based on what will make you feel most confident and happy.

How do you choose the right makeup artist for your wedding?

A wedding makeup artist can ensure a flawless look on your big day. Finding the perfect person isn’t all about price, though. Here are tips for choosing the right makeup artist for your wedding:

      • Research before reaching out. Wedding makeup artists should have an online presence with portfolios of their work. Find someone with an aesthetic you love.
      • Read reviews. You want a wedding makeup artist who’ll be on time, do beautiful work, and add a positive vibe to your day. Pay attention if previous clients report bad experiences with a makeup artist.
      • Consider skin tones. If your bridal party has a range of skin tones, make sure your wedding makeup artist and assistants are experienced and talented working with everyone.
      • Is your top pick available on your date? If so, put down a deposit to secure their services.
      • Confirm rates and payment. Clearly discuss prices and payment plans, and sign a detailed contract so there are no surprises on your wedding day.

How much should you tip a wedding makeup artist?

Wedding makeup artists ensure you and your bridal party are looking your best bright and early on your wedding day. Tipping a wedding makeup artist for their hard work is standard practice, and is also greatly appreciated. A tip of 15 percent to 20 percent of the total bill is appropriate. You may consider tipping extra if the makeup artist or someone on their team went above and beyond — for example, squeezing in Aunt Martha at the last second or redoing a flower girl’s hair free of charge after she dunked it in the fountain.

A gratuity is a reflection of a job well done, so if the wedding makeup artist was late, did a shoddy job or didn’t provide all the services you negotiated, you are not required to tip. Talk with your wedding makeup artist prior to the event to ask how they prefer payment and gratuity to be handled. Can you pay by credit card the day of the event and include a tip then? Do you need to pay in cash the day of the event? Find out ahead of time how to manage payment for services so you can be prepared with cash or credit cards as needed. Even better, delegate the task of payment to someone in your bridal party so you can just enjoy your day.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
