I was extremely impressed with the service Greenside gave me. The gentleman who came to clean my carpets was very professional and knowledgeable. He was on time, very thorough and explained everything to me prior to the cleaning. I have used many carpet cleaning companies in the past and they have never provided me with such good service. My carpets look like new again. I would highly recommend this company to all my friends and family.

Shegun was very informative. He took his time answering questions. Always seemed very concerned for our well being. I did interview other mold remediation companies but my instinct kept taking me back to Shegun. I would hire him again because he is there to satisfy the customer no matter what it takes. Be honest with him with any concerns and you will have the same experience I had.

Hector showed up right on time. He is very professional and inspires instant trust which I was able to confirm based on his behavior and work ethic. He did a great job installing a bathroom vent, fixing an electric outlet and door latch. He is very honest and he's pricea are reasonable. I have asked him to return and do some plumbing work in addition to other hone projects. I plan on using him for all my future hone repair and projects. I highly recommend him.

Golden Oaks Kitchen, Bath and Flooring company was our contractor to do all repairs on our home damages caused by water damage that happened to our home due to water leakage which was started from second floor bath room and flooded to 1st. floor damaging, dray walls, cabinets, laminates +++ .. at 1st. and second floors. This company started their restoration and repair works the day after we signed the contract. Their crew were very professional in their fields of repair and replacement, they were trying their best to satisfy us. Any time that we had comments for adding more repair at one area or paint the areas in a color to match other paints , they were not arguing that and wanted us to be happy with what we need and what they did for us. They were always on time and also helped us to deliver new cabinets, toilets ++++. Overall everything was done on a very smooth way, on time and the way that we wanted to be done.

Our pantry ceiling collapsed from a flood of water coming from our attic. Jay quickly identified the problem as a plugged condensate line from the attic air conditioning unit. Jay flushed the line quickly and charged a reasonable fee. Jay also referred us to the restoration contractor who dried our pantry and replaced the damaged insulation, drywall, and ceiling. I would definitely hire Jay again. In fact, we did hire Jay to replace our hot water heater and water pressure regulator valve and turn-off valve leading into our house.

Dan does excellent work. Very clean and professional. Only one draw back is he is super busy and with any type of restoration, some jobs run over so he may not arrive exactly on time.

We hired AtoZ Construction after meeting with several remodeling companies and are very happy that we did. We had a big home project which included a room addition and a bathroom and were very picky on our screening process. AtoZ Construction surpassed all the other companies from the initial consultation, they were professional, took all the time to fully understand our expectations and needs and their price was very competitive. The project was finished on time, and was a smooth process with no surprises or delays. Rami the Meneger was supervising the entire process and was always available for us to answer questions or make slight changes if needed. We met with the designer who provided us a 3D design which was very helpful in seeing the final outcome. If you are on the fence on this one, AtoZ Construction is the way to go. We highly recommend them to anyone and love the final product of our project.

This letter will serve as a highly recommendation for the service that La Roca Builder did for us, on our new home construction. They have a great team that took care of all the guess work of home construction. They made sure we we’re always informed on how the city works with submitting plans and time frame of completion. We interviewed many contractors, but most of them couldn’t take care of the entire project and that’s why we hired them. Our home looks beautiful and we owe it all to Christian and his team from LA Rocca Builders not to mentioned J Balian Construction and Grandeur Construction, 3 teams, each team took care of different aspects of the projects all under one Roof; they all work together amazing! we love that they took care of it all, that made our new home build possible. 5 stars all the way Eddie Steeples Pacific Palisades P.S they wanted me to include that I was the actor that was on the show “My Name is Earl” aka “Crabman” And I gladly said yes, lol. Thanks Christian!

I had a water heater leak and my tenant called me panicking. So I googled "water clean up in Irvine" and Same Day Restoration was recommended #1 by everyone. They headed over to the unit immediately. Calmed myself and my tenant. Put me in touch with a plumber they work with and had me covered from A-Z without having to run around finding different contractors for each part of the repair.

Roman and Amy from Maxi serve honestly are one of the best companies I have worked with. We own a 7,000 square foot facility and they were able to give an excellent price and finished the job quickly. They are certified and go through every detail very carefully. Their work is tested, certified, and guaranteed. The have a full professional crew with all the right tools/equipment to execute the project in a professional and efficient manner. They are clean which is a big bonus since my company builds retail stores. Roman will take care of you and look out for your best interests. Down to earth guy. A+ service.

Bo did a great job in restoring a segment of a brick retaining wall in our backyard. He arrived on time and went straight to work. He was very respectful to our backyard and left it in perfect shape when he was finished with the project. We're very happy with the results, and we will use him again for an upcoming project.

So, so grateful fro Bmp Restoration. We asked them to come out for an emergency situation of water/mold damage. They arrived promptly the next morning. All communication was clear, honest, and thorough. They worked delicately with us (tenants) and our landlord. Now that the job is done I feel so happy we went with Bmp! Thank you!

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is a general contractor?

When starting a home remodel or new construction project, you will probably hire a general contractor. A general contractor is a professional who is qualified to take a set of building plans and construct them as outlined. The general contractor may help perform the day-to-day building, or they may just hire workers and oversee all the work activities. In either case, the job of the general contractor is to see that your project gets built.

When you have a building project, ask for bids from various contractors. The bids tell you how much each will charge and what their scope of work will be. Once you have selected a bid, you sign a contract with that general contractor outlining the specifics of the project and the milestones during the project when they will receive payment installments. Once the contract is official, the general contractor will bring in their crew to begin construction. The contractor will manage the workers and subcontractors (anyone who doesn’t work directly for their company but that they need to outsource, like a marble installation pro), order all the materials, obtain work permits, and confirm that all the workers and subcontractors are completing their projects as planned. They typically handle all the payments to the workers and subcontractors, and send you invoice. For all these reasons, it’s also especially important to follow a few smart hiring practices when it comes to finding a general contractor.  If you are organized and competent to oversee construction projects, and are able to make sure everything is being built properly and meeting code, it’s possible you can be your own general contractor.

Why should you hire a contractor?

Hiring a general contractor is a good idea for many remodeling projects. Home renovation contractors have a broad range of skills to manage, coordinate and complete a project. They should help make sure your project comes in on time and within your budget as they hire and supervise all the necessary subcontractors, including electricians and plumbers. They also handle procuring all the materials required for your job. Some homeowners look to save money by acting as their own contractor, but an experienced home renovation contractor is worth the cost. They should know local building codes, be able to pull all necessary permits, and work with inspectors to make sure the construction meets local codes. Also, because they get professional discounts, they can typically buy materials at a better price than you can; better prices on materials and labor save you money, and make up for at least a percentage of the cost of the contractor.

When should you hire a contractor?

A few home remodeling projects can be done by an ambitious DIY-minded homeowner or local handyman, but many are best completed by a professional home renovation contractor. You should hire a contractor when you’re planning a large project that takes time, machinery or large tools, and several workers; a kitchen remodel, new bathroom or home addition will be most successful with a licensed, expert contractor at the helm. It’s particularly important to have a professional contractor on board for construction, electrical, plumbing and HVAC projects that require inspections to meet local building codes. Of course, you can hire a contractor for smaller projects, too, if you prefer to let an expert handle things like addition or removal of a wall, small framing projects, or anything that requires a permit.

You should hire a contractor when you’re ready to start a remodeling project and you have plans, a budget and a timeline for the work in hand, but before any remodeling work begins.

How much will it cost to remodel my house?

The cost to remodel a home is highly variable — size and scope of the project, quality of materials, and the number of subcontractors required to complete the job all affect the total cost. The average national cost of a home renovation project is $13,500. The national average per-square-foot cost of a remodel ranges from $25 to $100. Nationally, kitchen and bathroom remodels are the most popular types of projects, in part because they typically have the highest return on investment when the home is sold. The national average cost of a major kitchen remodel ranges from $25,000 to $62,000, while the average bathroom remodel tends to cost $6,000 to $18,000. In addition to materials and labor costs, many remodeling project costs include permit fees, which, average $900 or more, depending on your location.

Do I need a contractor for a kitchen remodel?

A kitchen remodel is one of the most important investments you can make in your home, and it’s critical to get the details right; that’s where a home renovation contractor comes in. A minor remodel usually includes new cabinet faces and hardware, replacement appliances, and paint, while an extensive job may enlarge the kitchen’s square footage, install new cabinets or an island, change the layout, and lay new tile or hardwood floors. Any renovation that includes filing permits, construction, or electrical or plumbing work is best completed by an experienced contractor who knows local codes.
