As soon as I saw bites and discovered I had bed bugs my entire life turned upside down. I was freaking out, ordering any and every bed bug removal product I saw online. Nothing worked. I felt unsafe in my home, ridden with anxiety, unsure of how I would EVER be able to get rid of these small demons. I went online researching exterminators, yet many of them had reviews that said that it took many sessions to get rid of them. Once again, I was overwhelmed and upset knowing how long I thought it would take. I found William online through here and called him immediately. He was able to come THE SAME DAY. I was so relieved, happy, and excited. He came within a few hours, did the service (about an hour), and was able to come back. Within a day the bed bugs were GONE!!!!! GONE!!! All anxiety GONE, I was so relieved I couldn't believe it!!! He also was so great at responding over text and answering any questions I had. He came for a follow up since it was included and gave an 120 day guarantee! No bed bugs! No anxiety! Just a clear apartment :) Amazing experience.

Joe quickly and inexpensively completed got rid of the bedbugs in my apt. Was a real problem: lots of nasty bites on the legs and problem was getting worse...a real nightmare infestation. Joe had a great price and could get to my apt much sooner than others listed here. Joe was very professional and answered all my questions. His spraying only took about 20 minutes. What I really like was he used to work for the giant bug removal companies so he knows his stuff but since he works alone there's no overhead, so his price and response is much quicker. He has no VPs in fancy corner offices that need to be paid...it's just Joe in his white pickup. I love that. I highly highly recommend Joe if you have any bug problem. Peter

They came out immediately after I found bed bugs in my roommate's bed. I was horrified & embarrassed, paranoid that my entire condo was infested. While I have a tendency to overreact, the cool person that they sent out was exactly what I needed. He had a great sense of humor, gave me a direct & exact quote, was honest & extremely quick & efficient. I would highly recommend.

I had approx 5 hours to find someoene to handle a bee issue in the backyard in preparation of a wedding. BugAbate gave me a quote and said they could be there within 2 hours. I feel bad because I can't remember the name of the kind and extremely courteous gentleman that came, but he is a ROCK STAR! I had included in a note there was a wedding happening hours later and his wife was kind and perceptive in making sure she passed along this information. He not only showed up prior to the 2 hour mark but found a nest of wasps and got rid of them too. Also, when he realized the job was not as invasive as originally thought he gave us a discount! I highly recommend BugAbate to anyone!

Howard with Five Star Pest control was incredibly efficient and genuinely kind. After a bed bug issue in my apartment became all too clear, I found Howard on Thumbtack and he extensively walked me through the process of preparation for fumigation. Howard stopped by at my home for the initial visit and I saw significant improvement in decline of bugs. He phoned me several time to check in on me and inquire about the status of my dilemma. After two weeks, he came by again for a follow-up and it's now been over 20 days with NO bed bugs! Thanks to Howard and Five Star Pest Control not only for a successful fumigation but for exceptional service!! I can't stress enough how grateful I am for the service during this stressful experience. Just call him, and you'll be able to tell in the friendly tone of his voice and conversation that you're dealing with quality. Thanks again!

Robert and his trainee (I'm so bad with names!!) were very professional, knowledgeable, nice, and discreet (bed bugs are embarrassing!!). We chose them because they are able to use the bed bug dogs, and if the bugs are found are able to exterminate using heat instead of chemicals, which was very important to us. One of the ways that we know they are nice and honest is the fact that no bugs were found! :) We did find an actual bed bug months ago and had someone else come out and also say there was no evidence of an infestation. But, we couldn't shake the fear that more may have hatched from the one that was found. And for some reason we really liked the ability to use the bed bug sniffing dog. We can now sleep easy! Thanks!!

Bed bugs are Satan's children. You don't want to deal with them. I worked with Chad, and he helped my wife and I get through it. He was polite, understanding, helpful and de-stressing from start to finish. He arranged Vikane fumigation of our belongings, and inspected our cars and bedroom for a fair price. He did more for us than he had to so that we'd have some peace of mind. That last word is important. Forget the mattress, bed bugs get into your mind. Someone friendly like Chad helps you reclaim your sanity.

We had a problem with bed bugs. We tried to take care of them ourselves. But the problem got worse! We hired a local company, and the company was only here for an hour. That same night. The bedbugs were still around! I swear we just pissed them off. I couldn't sleep. My family members were no longer coming over and I knew they felt uncomfortable with me going to their houses. Anyways. The original company would not want to come back to retreat. They said they offer NO guarantee on their bedbug treatments! I was fed up with that company. So I immediately found Sam and his team from a quick google search. Boy was I glad I found them. The technicians that came out really took their time doing a full bed bug inspection and treatment. I didn't know bed bugs could climb up walls or into your wall electrical outlets. The guys opened up an electrical outlet and showed me a bed bug nest! I was grossed out....but I was also happy because these guys knew what they were doing and were getting to the source of my problem. They also offer a long warranty to give me peace of mind. I have been sleeping like a baby since they've done the bedbug treatment. I highly recommend this company.

A Tovar pest control does a fantastic job. They spray on a regular basis to remove bugs and pests. Also, they did a great job repairing termite damage that was done previously. Luis is the "bug whisperer" and knocks them dead!

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What do pest control companies do?

Pest control companies handle all aspects of bug, rodent and animal extermination or removal. Pest control professionals visit your home or office to identify the type of pest that is troubling you and offer various treatment plans — complete with clearly outlined costs. Once you and the pest control company have a signed agreement, the pro will begin treatment. Pest treatment can range from the use of spray pesticides and gel bait to live and/or kill traps. There are a wide range of types of pesticides, many of them nontoxic for humans and other small animals. This means you may be able to have your home treated for pests without harming nearby wildlife or your dog and cat. The pest control pro will carry out the treatment plan and, depending on the service agreement, provide follow-up such as emptying traps, inspecting access points, or reapplying pesticide spray if the pests return. Costs will vary based on the type of pest you are having removed and the extent of the infestation. The average national pest control price range is $80-$130. From a minor bedbug event to an entire home termite infestation, pest control companies have got you covered.

How do you get bed bugs and how do you get rid of them?

The increase in bed bug infestations in the U.S. is a result of increased travel, lack of knowledge about preventing infestations, increased resistance of bed bugs to pesticides, and ineffective pest control practices, explains the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). It’s easy to mistake bed bugs for carpet beetles or similar-looking bugs, so infestations are often not noticed when they first occur. Prevention tips include keeping areas free of clutter, regularly washing sheets and mattress covers in hot water (and don’t forget to wash the laundry bag, too), and vacuuming regularly and safely disposing of the sealed vacuum bag. Not everyone has reactions to bed bug bites, which also may be mistaken for the bites of other pests such as mosquitoes, so timely bed bug extermination depends on identification of bed bug activity. If you notice physical signs of an infestation, contact a bed bug extermination professional as soon as possible to learn about chemical and non-chemical (such as heat) treatment options. An integrated pest management plan may incorporate one or more methods.

How much does it cost to remove a mouse?

If you have a mouse in your house you’re probably quickly researching pest control costs. Mice, although tiny, can transmit diseases and also get into your food and leave unsanitary droppings around your home. If you have seen one mouse in your house, it’s likely that more have taken up residence in your crawl space, attic or basement. The national average pest control cost is $150-$200. Costs can vary depending on whether you need to get rid of a population of living mice or just dispose of a dead mouse (or full traps), how extensive the mouse population is, and where you live in the country. Here are some examples of average pest control cost for removing a mouse:

  • $150 for initial trap setup and inspection (and sealing of entry holes).
    • $50 for rodent removal service calls and emptying of traps. This visit can also include identifying and sealing entry points that were not sealed on the first visit.
  • Rodent extermination: $110-$350, depending on how heavy the rodent population is, whether the mouse infestation poses health risks, how many entrances exist and how many rodent bait stations are needed.

How much does it cost to kill bed bugs?

The cost of bed bug extermination depends primarily on how widespread the pest infestation is and how many rooms need to be treated. Other factors that can affect bed bug extermination costs are the amount of clutter in the location, additional furniture that needs to be treated, and construction of the home. Pest management professionals often have rates for room treatments, which can vary based on these factors. As an example, a pest management company treating a 10-by-15-foot room with light infestation might charge clients about $250, while the same size room with a heavy infestation and large amounts of clutter might cost the clients $300-$400. Clutter and heavier bed bug populations mean more product and longer labor time for the workers. Rates will vary from company to company, and from region to region, but the national average bed bug extermination cost is $320-$400. Bed bug heat treatments are an alternative way to exterminate these pests. Heat treatments are typically charged per square foot and tend to cost more than chemical or non-chemical spray solutions. Although effective, they are not usually recommended for occupied spaces, as the extreme temperatures can damage televisions, window dressings and other home furnishings.

How much does it cost to treat a house for termites?

Termites are not only creepy-crawly, they can literally eat your house out from underneath you. Termites feed on damp and dry wood and can chomp through your house at an alarming rate. The national average pest control cost for termite extermination is $240-$400. Treatment costs can be higher for an extensive infestation. Here are some examples of average pest control costs for termites:

  • Liquid treatment of subterranean termites: $3-$4 per linear foot.
    • For $75 per year, a company may offer a maintenance plan that provides inspection of the property and renewal of the warranty.
  • Liquid treatment of subterranean termites: approximately $400 for a 2,000-square-foot home at $3-$5 per linear foot.
    • The price is higher for additional work such as foaming and drilling inside of concrete slabs.
  • Fumigation treatment of drywood termites: $1,200-$1,500 for a 30,000- to 35,000-cubic-foot home
    • Fumigation is measured in cubic feet because it fills the airspace of the home and infiltrates the wood that the termites may be colonizing. The cost of fumigation is affected by the number of levels in the home as well as the square footage.
