Flawless. We gave Cori quite a challenge . To paint the essence of our theme party as it was happening. She was exceptional. Our art piece is all we had hoped for. More importantly her and her husband have remarkable work ethic, while being flexible and down to earth. Talented, creative, and easy to work with. The BUDDENBROCKS

We are still in the designing stage of my logo, but working with Jon has been an absolute pleasure! I can't imagine what a headache it must be to be asked to do so many things over and over again, to be asked for intangible things that can't be explained or to fix something and make it just so. But Jon is always super awesome, so happy to help and truly takes pride in his ability to get you closer and closer to your dream logo. He's absolutely wonderful and I would recommend him whole-heartedly at the drop of a hat! Thank you so much Jon, for everything! :D

Debby was a total Rock Star to work with in designing my 1 bedroom apt! She was extremely dynamic and did not mind me constantly throwing new ideas and layouts at her. Instead of throwing the "kitchen sink" back at you Debby takes your thoughts into account and delivers the most relevant and practical layouts. Her vast prior experience really helps in identifying what you want in a space. I really enjoyed working with her and highly recommend her to anyone for any space! 11/10.

We are currently working with Ghiasi Designsand it’s been an amazing experience so far! Arash has done it for over 20 years, so anything from furniture selection and materials selection, he has been on point, not jeopardizing our own style but at the same time elevating us to another level of existence and challenging to truly transform life along with transforming space. Very patient, honest, and fun and easy to work with. People were very impressed with our choice of designer and his selections everywhere I went with him or taking his samples and our house is coming together beautifully. I am managing renovations myself and he has been tremendously helpful, kind and patient but honest when it comes to my questions of choices, placements. Although our contract was for design and furniture, not project management, when he kindly offered one of his subcontractors to me when I needed extensive lighting work in my house , I had a glimpse of the quality and a value that he could bring to the turn key and project managemebt contracts. Even during our initial phone consultation and then first fade to face meeting/2 hrs consultation I was impressed with how intuitive and sensitive Arash is to the needs of the client and also space solutions. We have eventually listened to most of his initial advice and the one I didn’t listen to, I looked back and thought: I should have listened. So if you hire Ghiasi Designs for your project, submit to his creative genius and enjoy the process!

BWA Design was the first to respond to my request for a book designer. However, his skills and abilities weren't what I was looking for as far as a book. If I needed someone to create flyers, banners, logos or websites, he will be my first contact.

I hired Michael to do a jewelry shoot for my retail business and unlike 6 other photographers that I interviewed, Michael easily understood my budget and what I wanted to accomplish with my pictures. Working with him was like working with a friend, he listened well and my pictures could not have turned out any better. I highly recommend him to anyone who needs a photo shoot done right in an enjoyable environment.

Gobro is the best way to go when it comes to getting a website done. They were committed and made sure that I was very satisfied with my website. Unlike some web developers, Erik always took the time to hear my issues and found ways to resolve them. He is attentive and really wants me to succeed. His staff also worked hard on my website. Although it’s taking a little longer than I had anticipated, I and very happy with my site. They are reliable and honest company. Wouldn’t go anywhere else!

Words cannot suffice in terms of how Dar has truly blessed our family! I interviewed at least 5 interior designers and Dar’s level of experience, attention to detail, and referrals far exceeded anyone else. I greeted him with a hug when I first saw him because he has this joyful magnetic glow that makes you feel like he is a really good friend. Dar is very punctual; he shows up exactly at the time he gives you and he does not rush you. He is knowledgeable, very attentive, and incredibly patient (we would sometimes have multiple hour meetings). He worked around our schedule with our little ones and never complained about the long hours he put in or how meticulous we were in the designing phase. We enjoyed working with Dar so much that we hired him to stage our house, which put our house over the top in a competitive market. I cannot wait to bring him on board to give our new home the “Dar touch”!

I love working with NXT Design. Not only does their team always bring talented designers to the table, but NXT Design can help to solidify an overall brand experience. This was crucial to us as our shared office spaces rely on a strong brand experience in each location. We always hire NXT Design to create the look and feel of all of our offices. They've created a standard for our brand as we continue to expand. NXT Design is also flexible and very easy to work with. They understand branding and design, as well as the construction and development side of it. NXT Design created several craft furniture pieces for us that added a quality custom look we needed. They are also able to assist with quality control of build out of our spaces. We're so grateful for all of their help.

I started exploring renovations to my apartment in fall of 2014. The core of the renovations were updates to the bathroom and kitchen, but also included smaller modifications including installation of jib doors over closets and the living space and the installation of a built-in bookshelf/cabinet in the living room. Because my apartment is small (600 sq ft) and the rooms are somewhat open to one another, it is important that there be continuity throughout the space and the areas do not look disjointed. I had a vision of what I wanted to accomplish and what I wanted the end result to be, but I needed a designer who could help pull together a cohesive look, source and choose finishes that would tie in with the larger space, source and guide the contractor, etc. Victoria has been a great help in taking the vision I had, putting some direction around it while making sure it ties into the living and bedroom space. She sourced the contractors for me and all of the fixtures/materials. While I always had the option of visiting stone yards with her to see the materials first hand -- it was the last thing I wanted to do in my free time. So when appropriate, Victoria would bring samples to me (paint, wallpaper, tile etc.) and if I didn't deem it necessary, I would make selections via email from photos she would provide. For me this provided a very efficient and cost effective way to work with her. In sourcing materials she has been very good about keeping my budget in mind. An example of this was in choosing the bathroom tile. We had decided to go with a thassos marble. The estimate she received from the original vendor fa exceeded my budget. Rather than sacrifice the look, she found a vendor online that offered the same product at a third the cost. The project is running on budget with some fixtures coming in below cost.

Initially when Kamron and his team quoted me 3500 for my web design I was inclined to look elsewhere. I set up a phone call with him and he gave me a discounted rate but I feel like I was working with an agency for much cheaper. The end product and the revisions process throughout was super simple. We would have weekly calls to make sure the site was going in the direction I wanted. Who would have thought I could find a wen designer this good on thumbtack. Work with them! You will not be let down I promise.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

Why should you hire a web designer?

Your website is often the first thing your customers see when they’re searching for a business or service on the web. As the face of your organization, your website needs to be attractive and functional, offering the latest features that users now expect. To plan and design a site that both reflects your company’s mission and values and appeals to customers takes a professional web designer. While free online services can help people set up websites, web designers can provide a unique solution made specifically to meet customers’ personal or business needs.

Most web designers offer a wide variety of services to make your website aesthetically pleasing and easy to use. Modern web design must be mobile-friendly and scalable, capable of expanding to include a blog, social media sites, and even video streaming; web designers are experts at integrating various web technologies. They can build the site, add functionality, test it, launch it on a live server, and track and maintain its performance.

In addition to web design and graphic design, some web design providers also offer development and security services, including search engine optimization (SEO), social media marketing and management, logo design, site maintenance, domain registration and hosting, protection against malware, and digital marketing and content services.

What do interior designers do?

Interior designers do much more than pick complementary paint colors and choose matching furniture — although those tasks are important parts of the job. Unlike decorators, interior designers usually have an associate of science degree or certificate of achievement in interior design from an accredited program. They’re trained in drafting, lighting and computer aided design (CAD), and are experts in room-specific design and residential space planning. Interior designers use these skills to plan and design safe, highly functional and beautiful interior spaces, from kitchens and bathrooms to family rooms and bedrooms. They determine space requirements, work within building codes and inspection regulations, and meet accessibility standards. An interior designer’s day-to-day job includes creative and technical tasks, both of which often require great communication skills:

  • Creating model rooms and visuals using design software.
  • Researching different textiles, materials, finishes, lighting and furniture.
  • Hiring suppliers, vendors, and contractors.
  • Estimating costs and making bids on potential jobs.

What should you look for in a website designer?

A professional web designer creates the look and feel of your website, collaborating with you to choose colors, creating logos and other branding materials, establishing page layouts, and creating sample pages. An important part of web design is making sure the site is functional, meets your goals, and is easy for users to navigate. When you’re looking to hire a web designer, start by reviewing the person’s portfolio. Look for samples of work that match what you envision for your website, including experience building the types of pages or features you want. Make sure the web designer is familiar with your industry and understands both industry trends and web design trends — an old-fashioned or out-of-touch site will turn customers away rather than intrigue them.

Because web designers tend to work as freelancers on a project basis, they must be excellent communicators, willing to manage their own work, and available on your schedule. Some critical skills, such as working collaboratively and responding enthusiastically to feedback, aren’t core to good web design, but make working with a web designer much easier. Finally, look for a web designer who has cross-functional knowledge, such as understanding marketing and conversion rate optimization in addition to web design.

How much do web designers charge?

The average cost for hiring a web designer varies greatly depending on the scope of the work, which may range from building a site from scratch to rebranding an existing one, as well as the amount of content and graphics the designer will create. In general, the more complex the project, the more time the design agency will have to spend. Because web designers often work on an hourly basis, the longer the project, the higher the costs; you can count on the web designer spending at minimum 10 hours to create a very basic website with just a handful of pages with few elements. Prices also depend on the designer’s skill set, the process, and the company’s rates. In general, the national average cost for a basic website package starts at $500, but a customized website can cost as much as $2,000 or more. Here are typical average hourly rates, broken out by the complexity of the work:

  • Basic layout and user interface: $15-$40 per hour
  • Content management system design: $20-$50 per hour
  • Custom website design with custom code: $45-$75 per hour

How much does it cost to create a logo?

Logo design is an important part of your company’s brand development. More than an image with text and color, a logo communicates the tone and personality of your company to your potential customers. Hiring a graphic designer with an appealing portfolio and quality reviews is a solid start to creating a winning logo design. The cost to create a logo can depend on how in-depth the marketing and design services you request are. Designers can create one logo in multiple formats (horizontal, vertical, etc.) to fit both your website and social media platforms, they can create a variety of designs for clients to select from, or they can create multiple logos for one client who needs branding for more than one venture. Logos may be text-only, text and image, or image-only. Many designers and design firms charge by the hour for their services, while other companies offer packages bundled with design services. Here are some examples of cost:

  • National average cost to hire a logo designer: $170-$250.
  • Average hourly rate for a freelance marketing consultant: about $150.
  • Tiered pricing for logo design packages from one firm:
    • Package One: $200 for three logo concepts, three rounds of revision, and a variety of format and color end designs.
    • Package Two: $350 for 10 logo concepts, unlimited rounds of revision, and a variety of format and color end designs.
    • Package Three: $550 for everything included in the Package Two, plus business card design, letterhead design, social media graphics and an email signature.
    • Package Four: $850 for everything in the Package Three, plus custom brand guidelines, which outline a strategy for creating a consistent branding in the client’s business.
