FAQs
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
As with all professional editors, I work within the standard editorial rates: Substantive Editing: $45/hour Copy Editing: $30/hour Proofreading: $20/hour While I round up or down on rates depending on the project, it's important to know that each type of editing has its own price for very concrete and specific reasons. (For example, substantive editing should cost more than proofreading, because it is a process demanding more time and critical thinking regarding the content of the work, as opposed to just the spelling and grammar.)
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
First, we review what your content is, and what your goals and expectations for the content are. I will help you set steps for achieving those goals before walking through each step together as a team. (For example, if you have an just-completed fiction manuscript that still needs substantive editing, it won't be ideal to jump right to copy editing.)
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have a BA in English literature, and an AA in TV/film. I've been in publishing (print and new media) for almost 10 years. I've worked in-house at two publishers, including my own press; and have provided freelance editorial services for dozens of authors.
