LA has many great guitarists, but not every great player is a great teacher. With my approach, nothing is assumed, nothing is left unexplained. You will learn the exact motions and methods to do things efficiently, quickly, and easily. This is why my students learn faster than all others. I enjoy getting people to that "Aha!" moment. So many people think that music is an extraordinarily discipline and fear that they will never be able to get better. But with good practice techniques and focus, anyone can learn to play their favorite songs on guitar!

Aside from being one of the nicest, most down-to-earth guys you'll ever meet, Drew is an awesome guitar teacher. He's able to assess what level you're at, where you need to work, and what your blocks are very quickly, and to help you out with real examples. He also doesn't get on your case all the time about not practicing -- but seriously, practice! -- and you're just as likely to spend 5 minutes chatting about music and influences as you are running scale lines. He's got worksheets and lesson plans for whatever you need, and leaving a lesson with Drew you really feel prepared to work on what you need to work on in the coming week. Speaking as someone who'd never taken a guitar lesson before, I would definitely recommend Drew to anyone starting out -- or anyone coming from another instrument (I'm a pianist by training).

I’ve been playing for about 10 months now. At first I relied on the many on-line resources available to help you learn the basics, and they were a good starting point. But about three months ago I decided that a flesh-and-blood teacher might accelerate my learning curve. There are a lot of them to choose from, but my Internet search led me to Drew, just as yours has. I’ve had eight lessons, and I can’t believe the difference it’s made in my progress. In our very first lesson Drew affirmed the work I’d done on my own, but identified the biggest stumbling block that I was having: the action on my guitar was too high. Several experienced guitar players and the salesmen at Guitar Center had failed to catch that, even when I had put the question to them directly. Getting the action lowered by the tech that Drew recommended has made a world of difference. But that’s just the beginning. Drew has a well thought-out analytical approach to helping you become an independent player. In a few months he’s taken me through the basics of identifying chords in guitar tab notation and reading eighth note and sixteenth note rhythms. He’s helped me a lot to speed up my chord changes, the number one problem for most beginners. I’m well on my way to memorizing the natural notes on the fret board, a task many more advanced players shy away from. And now he’s got me tackling barre and power chords. When I started with Drew I would never have imagined that I’d already be working on not only making those chords, but changing between them and integrating them into a Beatles song. And I certainly can’t say I’ve mastered it, but I feel like I’m on the path. This song is a real challenge for me, but Drew’s helped me break it into achievable pieces and analyze how to approach each bit to begin to get it. Probably the highest compliment I can pay Drew is that when I’m working on my own, I’m already beginning to anticipate what he’d say in a particular situation. “Slow down”… “Never look at the right hand”… “Take it one measure at a time”… “Take it one finger at a time”… When a teacher can get inside your head so fast…that’s a good teacher.

A smart and passionate teacher. There are no "set" curriculum; each lesson is customized and tailored to your needs. I was a total guitar newbie and didn't even know what "strumming" means. Drew has been my one and only guitar teacher for about 5 months, now I pick songs I like and ask him for a guidance. Things can be frustrated for beginners, but he makes it fun thru a organized, focused, solid yet easy way to learn guitar and some music theories. I highly recommend him for your musical experiment.

I would recommend Drew to anyone who is serious about learning the guitar. In the short amount of time that I have worked with Drew, I have began to see the fret board differently and in ways I never knew of before. I have really enjoyed each lesson as Drew always prepares a structured lesson suited towards your needs.

  • What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

    The first lesson is always 50 as a standalone lesson so that you can make sure that you like my teaching style and personality. After that lessons are paid for monthly at 240 for four lessons (all lessons are an hour long). Lesson times of 6pm-10pm are 280 for four lessons. (Aside from being in higher demand, I have to give up other work in order to teach these hours).
