Anne G. says, "It took me two winters to find a roofing company I felt secure with . I had many estimates because either the price was out of the ball field, or had a salesperson call me many times to close the deal , and lastly a company that said they were coming out to do estimate and never showed or called . It is very difficult to choose a company you have no references for . However , this last winter rain there was leaking and I knew I had to choose a company now . So that’s when I found SHO roofing after reading many positive reviews , I sent a message to inquire about an estimate . Ziad responded right away and I felt he was very knowledgeable but not arrogant like some , very informative , patience to listen to my every question . Showed me the material they would be using. I had one more company coming that day after SHO roofing and this other company gave the vibe of questionable cost when they say here is a rough estimate but as we tear off the old roof the estimate can change . I asked by about how much and was told it could be up to 2K. I asked if he would be pulling permits and he said yes but that is an additional cost and depends on your city fees. I felt very uncomfortable like the saying a “Used Car Salesman “. No offense to any used car salesperson . But hidden costs that you had no idea what you may be getting into or what you are going to get . So in summary , Ziad from SHO roofing gave me honest , direct answers , gave me the break down of warranty for material and warranty for labor. The estimate was a solid total including the permit . He said it will not be anymore than the quote I am giving you now . No surprises or hidden fees . He really knows the bottom line of what the cost will be . He said the work of tearing off old roof down to plywood and replacing any sheets that may have lost its integrity, putting sheathing, and laying new roof, vents , etc. would be completed at the most 5 days but usually sooner. Everything he promised was exactly the outcome in the end . I was very relieved there was no surprise changes in the original estimate . His crew were very professional and cleaned up everything so there was no debris when they were done . Thank you Ziad with SHO roofing for everything , including the things you threw in for free!"See more

Lisa S. says, "Josh and his team at Pacific Pro Roofing were AMAZING! From the initial consultation, Josh was transparent with what they were going to do and the cost. He was there for all the inspections and made sure his team cleaned up everyday. When the project was done he made sure to do a final walk through with me to address any questions or concerns I had! He also explained everything in “people” language rather than “roofer” language so make sure I understood. He send me pictures after every phase of the roof installation. 100% would have him and his team come out and have already rendered him to family and friends. Thank you so much Pacific Pro Roof for my new roof!!"See more

FAQs

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

There are several reasons why it’s worth it to hire a professional roofer instead of attempting it yourself. The first is safety. Roofing is inherently dangerous, as a fall from a roof could seriously injure or kill you. Roofers have specialized equipment and training to help prevent accidents.

Next is experience. Roofers know how to spot problems (leaks, missing shingles, moss or mold growth, etc.)  in your roof that could potentially save you from costly repairs down the road.

And finally, roofers save you time by getting the job done quickly and with a high degree of quality.

Experts typically recommend that you have your roof professionally inspected at least once a year. But you also may want a licensed professional to inspect your roof during these circumstances:

  • You're buying or selling a home
  • You're filing an insurance claim
  • Before or after a contractor does major work on your roof

Search the Thumbtack site for experienced roof inspectors near you. You can contact them directly to set up a time to conduct the inspection, and learn more about their pricing structure and services.

Roof inspectors are trained to look for signs of a failing roofing system that could lead to damage — especially water and structural damage. Your home's roofing materials may look great from the ground, but it's difficult to see potential damage unless you take a closer look. A roof inspector can do just that.

During an inspection, the professional will typically look for issues that may have occurred during installation and manufacturing. They’ll also keep an eye out for damage caused by normal wear and tear, as well as extreme weather events. They might also access your attic to see if there are signs of a leak in your roof.

Here’s a short list of common things a contractor will look out for during a roof inspection:

  • Damage caused by hail, wind, snow and rain
  • Missing, broken, buckling, curling or cracked shingles
  • Roof decay, rot, moss, mildew and mold
  • Rust around the flashing
  • Damaged chimneys and vents
  • Holes, gaps and punctures that could cause a roof leak
  • Water stains and ventilation issues

Hiring a roofing inspector prevents you from having to do the dangerous work of climbing onto your roof. Plus, inspectors know how to assess potential damage and determine the best way to repair your roof and prevent the need for more expensive repairs in the future.
