Well I guess I could start with saying - working out with Matt changed my life. I have been working with Matt now for 5 Years and have gone from out of shape/low energy/no workouts to a healthy, in shape and well rounded fitness individual. Matt is always there to support, answer questions and motivate. I have now done 4 Murph's & 2 Spartan Beasts, countless workouts and it all goes back to meeting Matt and him helping me on the journey. He has also helped and coached my wife along her fitness journey. Can't recommend Matt enough. Matt is a amazing trainer and human being. He not only cares about your health but your overall well being. He'll create a customized program specifically to your goals and expectations. He'll give you real goals to achieve in a small amount of time and be there every step of the way to help achieve them. Extremely patient and professional. You won't find anyone else like him in LA. Matt Spencer is awesome! Matt believes in build/heal/train and his philosophy as a trainer is in the best interest of his clients. My name is Nancy and I have trained with Matt for the past two years. He has consulted with me, set up custom training and exercises for me —Even during the pandemic via FaceTime. I totally trust his thorough knowledge and understanding of training and form. During one of our FaceTime training sessions he asked me why my calves were so tight?...and if I’d been using my foam roller?... and I confessed I hadn’t been. The fact that he could visually tell over a video training that I had tight calves was crazy to me! He knows his stuff! For me to strengthen and heal some past knee and hip injuries; he created modified routines to strengthen and heal those areas first. I reached incremental goals progressing and strengthening my knee and hip - Then I could fully train. It made a huge difference for me in attaining my fitness goals. Matt is also very knowledgeable about nutrition. With his guidance I am now 93 lbs. lighter and more fit than I have ever been in my life. I highly recommend Matt as a trainer and fitness consultant. In addition to his training and exercise, he keeps me accountable and counsels with me.   • What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

    I offer an Introduction Package of Sessions 3 1-Hour Sessions for $150. From there The current thumbtack Discount Rate for sessions is $75/hr. You may purchase up to 10 at a time. Remote Programming (I just write workouts that have a plan and videos attached and send them via app) is $175/month Hybrid: 12 Week Plan $1200 for 12 weeks 1 Personal Training Session a week and Remote Programming and Nutritional Advice included. Outside Thumbtack: 4 1-Hour Sessions $440 8 1-Hour Sessions $840 12 1-Hour Sessions $1200

  • What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

    Setting Goals first. Talking with client to clarify goals with fitness plan to make sure we are on the same page. From there it's an On Ramp approach. Depending on the clients activity levels prior to training this will determine how fast and furious we dive in. If a client has not trained then I'll cover extensively movement patterns, teaching form, and technique. Analyzing their movements to see where they are limited in range of motion. From here we build the plan. Heal pain and mobility issues or bad habits. Set nutritional targets. Then we train. I have to build good habits first as well as good movements. This is to keep the client safe so when they squat with a barbell or are doing a high intensity metabolic conditioning session their bodies are safe and ready for the work. As we establish good habits and movement and turn up training. We then keep setting small targets that are aimed toward the ultimate goal. If a client wants to lose 20lbs. They need to lose 5 first. Then 10. Then 15. By moving at 5 at time we get positive psychological reinforcement by hitting the smaller goals. Once a client reaches a goal. I encourage always setting a new goal.

  • What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

    I started personal training in 2012. I started by getting certified by the National Association of Sports Medicine as a Personal Trainer. From there I followed that certification with a specialized kettlebell instructor certification. After extensive private training for 3 years I wanted to learn more and sought a mentor. I was lucky enough to land an internship with PJ Stahl (pjstahl.com) He is a master trainer for Reebok and Power Systems Fitness Equipment. He hired me full time. I worked at his gym as the head coach Lock Box Fitness and Performance Center off Pico Blvd in Los Angeles. I was able to have a top trainer guide me through all the knowledge I'd acquired and actually learned to apply it very well. I was able to work gigs for Reebok and Power Systems as well. I was taught how to teach gymnastics, strength training, Crossfit, mobility, and metabolic conditioning. I was also able to learn from celebrity trainer Ashley Borden (Revenge Body) @ashleybordenfitness on instagram. She trained out of the gym as well. During this time I spent four years studying from top trainers and I also was a Master Trainer for Tabata Body, Crossfit Level 1 Instructor. I'm also well versed in Mobility from The Ready State by Kelly Starret. I've run multiple gyms and done all the programming for workouts at them. After 8 years in this industry I will be able to help you with any goal.
