Introduction: Hi! My name is Yana, and I am a Senior at UCLA pursuing a B.A. in Psychology and a Music Industry Minor. I have been playing the piano since I was six, and learning new music is still my absolute favorite thing to do. I have been performing in competitions, master classes, and concerts for ten years. I have apprenticed for a professional performer and music instructor, and I currently teach my own students of all ages and experience levels.
My goal is to create a learning space that makes music fun and rewarding, while providing a framework for performance and practice techniques best suited to my students' abilities. I create personalized lesson plans and provide materials for each of my students, instead of having them work exclusively from a book. I consider his or her experience level, favorite genres and artists, and personal goals to custom tailor materials. I teach all styles of music, including classical, jazz, and contemporary. I also teach composition and songwriting to students who want to create their own projects.
My lesson plans include learning the skills listed below and more!
Reading music:
Learning to read notes, interpret rhythm and time signatures
Technique:
Learning proper form and technical exercises
Music theory:
The fundamentals of music theory, including learning to play scales, chords, and arpeggios
Performance:
Emphasis on the interpretation of pieces, with special attention to dynamics and ornaments
Broadening repertoire:
Through the exploration of different genres, the student becomes familiar with the flow and elements of composition that define musical styles
Musical Composition and Improvisation:
Advancing music theory understanding to include principles of composition, such as the formation of chords and melodies within a key signature.
I travel to students in the Santa Monica / Westwood / Beverly Hills area, and I also offer remote lessons. Feel free to reach out to me with any questions you may have, I would love to hear from you!
