PERSISTENCE, PREPARATION, CREATIVITY & PERSONAL CONNECTION are vital to finding a job today! Everything old is new again: people hire those whom they know, trust and like. I meet each client in person for an hour or more. Sending random resumes online SEEMS like a good idea, but I believe it is a waste of time. My writing consulting company, Maverick Consulting, opened in 2000. I have written hundreds of resumes and helped my clients find great opportunities as a career coach. I am happy to send my list of satisfied clients! Opportunities are found when the person has a serious passion or curiosity about the job and personally connects with people at the organization. This can be intimidating, so I break it down into steps, regardless of the industry. The keys are preparation, creativity, personal connection & persistence. My method: 1) Preparation 2) Creativity 3) Personal contacts (if you don't have contacts, I help you strategize to find the right people and approach them wth authenticity.) ANOTHER OPTION THAT I HAVE SEEN WORK: 3) Volunteering (a short volunteer stint may land you exactly where you want to be...people hire those that they know, trust and like! ) 4) Persistence! I am a native of Los Angeles, and my family has lived here since 1922! I watched my grandparents & parents build successful businesses in Los Angeles and navigate carefully during economic downturns. As a native, I have real relationships with businesses and cultural institution I have landed the following jobs using this combination of preparation, creativity, personal contacts & tenacity: top campaign staff positions for President Clinton & Vice President Gore, & President Obama, non-profit organizations/businesses, and hundreds of writing jobs for top executives (Disney is one example.)
