About
I've been playing and teaching acoustic and electric guitar for 20 years+. Here's what makes me different: your lessons become a very efficient story line that you add to with each visit. We divide time into theory/exercise and songs! Let's say for example, our lesson is the Key of C and all characteristics of it. I'll teach you the 7 chords of the key, various places to play them, and we will pick a song (from a predetermined list that you come up with on Day 1) that happens to reside in the key. We will learn the song, and WHY it's in the "Key of C". When you leave, I will send you custom audio that I create in Ableton Live 9...audio that you will be motivated to practice against, in the comfort of your home. I can slow down parts...and speed them up. To match your current level. Each student will get their own Youtube page...with video of me playing the exercises and songs that you learned in your previous lesson. In-between your lessons, you can refer to the audio tracks and the Youtube video to stay motivated and up to date! When you come back next week, we pick up right where we left off. Each student gets this customized attention. I've found this to be an excellent way to motivate students and keep them both happy with songs, and educated in the intricacies of the instrument. You can check out my page Fairfax Guitar Army on Facebook. It's been vouched for by my students:) Conveying my love and excitement for playing guitar is what drives me everyday. There is a real gratification in seeing the spark of understanding or the excitement in a student playing one of their favorite songs for the 1st time. Because I enjoy playing so much, its easy to love what I'm doing all day. And the enthusiasm is contagious. I really can't imagine anything as fun or rewarding as becoming part of the musician's world. The fact that I can bring new people into it....its extremely rewarding.

Immediately in the first few minutes of working with Scot, I knew he had a huge amount of musical knowledge and I knew he was the perfect fit. Scot has the ability to take on multiple levels from the very beginners to seasoned veterans. Not only that, he is an extremely patient and understanding instructor. He customizes his lessons for each person so you feel like you’re set on the right path on the first lesson. He gives you all the ingredients you need to bake the perfect cake, it’s a matter for you to practice and get that perfect cake out of the oven. I would recommend Scot to anybody looking to play the guitar or brush up on their skills.

I create atmospheric soundscapes with drums and keyboard. They are instrumentals. I came to Scot with a simple 4Track of my kit: toms, kick, snare, and overhead mic. I also used an Izotope Spire Studio to record the keyboards while listening to the drum mix in my headphones. I was skeptical as to what digitally could be done, but I must say the tracks are now very clean. The kick in particular is pronounced in the way I wanted and he even gave me 3 different audio options for each drum track, with slight sonic differences. I'm very pleased with the outcome. Probably will be back. Thx

John I'm glad you're pleased with the tracks. I try to process with a subtle hand, I didn't want to change the dynamics of your recording. Hope to see you again in the future🥁

The best thing about Scot is his enthusiasm for playing. He definitely loves it and takes so much time making sure I'm grasping the material and confident with my progress before we go on to something new. I've surprised myself because the electric guitar (what I play) has always intrigued me but not something I thought I'd ever actually pick up. But with the New Year I finally promised myself to tackle it and I'm so happy I found Scot right here in West Hollywood. I'm making progress with my open chords and currently working on the Pentatonic minor scale. Thanks Scot!!

Thanks for your words Staciann! Honestly, few things inspire motivation like a brand new electric guitar (at least for me). I'm happy you've decided to join the club and you can officially call yourself a 'guitarist'. Continue to practice hard and take a proactive approach to your lessons and soon you'll be playing whatever you want. The Pentatonic scale is the key to the 🎸 Kingdom🎶. Thanks again!

I'm normally not one for reviews, but having tried to find a teacher that "gets it" ...I have to leave one for Scot. I've been motivated for about a year now since buying a new Fender Telecaster that inspired me when I look at it...but frustrates me because I'm unable to play it lol. I tried Guitar Center first (decent but a headache to work out weekly) , and 2 other teachers who were both excellent guitarists, but simply could not convey their knowledge to me. The lessons were also quite unbalanced with a lack of "fun"...and completely non-linear from one week to the next. The 2nd teacher would almost actually say "what do you want to do this week?" when I'd arrive and I was looking for much more of a structured and disciplined scenario. I wanted to GET IT. Amazingly, of all places, I came across Scot's page on Facebook, and it linked me here. The other reviewers are correct, Scot is just a good guy, a great player and best of all: He knows how to craft a lesson. I feel I'm getting a firm grip on theory and songwriting from a music theory standpoint, but he doesn't miss a trick with it comes to the attention to detail of things like open chords, scales, etc--> what they are, why they work together and how to know what to play next. I guess you could say that even in these early stages, I'm finally feeling somewhat confident. It's great. Scot had me create a list of songs that I aspire to play or just enjoy listening to and he seems to find a way to include those songs (or parts of them) in a lesson when explaining a new chord or usable scale. Its this process that definitely keeps me motivated, because I can see the future of the song, I can play parts of it...and the complete song is somewhat tangible. Its....almost there. Thanks man! Looking forward to 2019

Hey Mark thanks so much for taking the time to share that! I'm honored you feel that way and most importantly, that you're feeling confident in your abilities. Keep it up, be diligent in practicing, have patience and you'll be playing anything you want🎸🎸
