Michael Byrnes

I am a seasoned bassist, producer, and founding member of the band Mt. Joy. For students interested in bass we start with the basics of music theory and playing technique, i.e., finger position, reading, transcription, scale and modal exercises. If the student is interested in production we start with developing a quick workflow within their music recording software. Whether that is with their own original music, music provided by me to get them started, or a track we build together. All of this varies based on the student's level. If the student is interested, we can take the original music further and record and produce the music ourselves in my home studio set up. This is my standard curriculum but of course subject to change depending on the student's level and or long and short term goals of the student. I spent a lot of my musical life in academia and graduated with a bachelors of music from Columbia College Chicago. I have years of experience on the road and in the studio with Mt. Joy. I have learned a great deal from past mentors and love any opportunity to pass that knowledge on. Music is my passion and career. I want nothing more than to pass my knowledge to my students while learning from them as we both grow in the world of music.
