Shlomi was super easy to work with, very responsive, and did a great job. We would definitely hire him again! The job was: rodent-proofing our crawl space, thorough cleaning, and insulation installation. It was a big job and they finished it in one day.

Due to the layout of my HVAC installation, it took significantly longer to finish the installation of the thermostat. Bajji however not only did not charge extra but also took the time to make sure that the installation was proper and functioning. I would whole heartedly recommend him to anyone.

The best choice for all your HVAC needs. My home needed a whole new system, ducts and furnace. Sam and his team did a full install of the HVAC system in my home, even with a very small crawl space for an attic. Sam and his professional team were able to do the work outlined in the contract. Sam is very professional and will make sure you understand everything before starting the job. Always available to answer questions and confident in his solutions. I felt very taken care of through the whole process, from the initial visit through the completion and inspection. Sam takes a hand in the whole approach with his company. He is not just selling the system, he's a contractor and a good one at that. I needed a new system, and they did it in a short time. The work and craftsmanship were honed. No upselling, no intimidation, no pressure, just honest answers and professional work. A rare find. Excellent, excellent company.

I was in the market for a new heating and air conditioning system. I had four companies come out, and these guys blew the competition out of the water. It was funny, I thought I wanted a more expensive system, and the gentleman who came out actually talked me out of spending more money because the return on my investment was not there. Who else does that? They say that like to treat everyone like family, and that is how I felt. The experience was a lot of fun too. The original phone call, service man, and Installers were absolutely great. I'd give them one hundred stars if I could.

Max installed the plumbing for washer/dryer hookups in my condo; Hot & cold water hookups with drain pipes, and vents. Max is very courteous & punctual and does top notch work. It was not an easy project due to the location of our washer & dryer but he made it work and did a great job weaving the pipes in the least obstructive manner possible. He was also very busy at the time that I hired him but was able to squeeze me in during some downtime he had while waiting on parts for another project. I would definitely recommend Max & will 100% use him in the future for any of my plumbing needs.

Honest and reasonably priced business. I have an old furnace that everyone was refusing to repair because they don't work with my furnace brand, except, United Appliance repair. They came in, and after some investigation, Derek figured out the problem. They called the manufacturer to get the needed parts, and within one week my furnace was repaired. My furnace is in the attic, which makes maintainance harder, and a full replace expensive since it would need to open up the roof. Luckily that was not a problem for them, and I saved a full furnace replacement.

Denny installed anentire single family home new HVAC system (we remodeled down to the studs) and was highly professional, hard working, and delivered excellent work on time. We'd highly recommend him for anyone looking for HVAC work and we will definitely use him again on future projects.

I Found Element Home Solutions company through Thumbtack Website. I Hired them to do Attic Insulation in my home. The Guys were Very Professional and Customer Oriented. They Explained me all the Procedure they would perform to get the job done. They Cleaned out the Attic and they had some good high powered machine which vacuumed all the old Insulation. And then Installed me new R30 Batt Insulation. I was Very Impressed with the quality of job they performed so I had them also install me a New Air Conditioner since I did not have one before. Thank you guys

Professionally and well executed thru entire process. I got five estimates. A1 was upper middle, but my experience and value of their deliverables justified the price. I would definitely refer them to anyone. FYI my installers were Oscar and William ( very professional/respectful/meticulous), Sales - Jerry, & Brad (COO?). Christina on the phone was helpful as well. They have a good team. Summary of work done: Replaced 48 year old furnace in garage closet shared with water heater. Replaced old ducting. Installed new Trane XV80, 2 stg, 100K BTU, ducting, bubble wrap insulation. Took away all old stuff. $5500 (incl taxes, inspection...). I probably got some discount. All five bids ... lowest 2800$, Highest 7200$, middle were 5000-5500. Great job guys!

Aziz has done a number of home installations and repairs related to HVAC and solar arrays at both my home and my daughter's home over the past six years. Of the five traits listed above being the basis for evaluation, I would have to award five stars, based upon all aspects of his work. Omitted from the evaluation were considerations of trust, honesty and integrity, all of which would receive a five star rating from me. If you have any questions of my basis for these opinions ask Aziz for my contact telephone number and I will be happy to explain them to you. Jim Henderson

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is an HVAC system?

The letters in HVAC stand for heating, ventilation and air conditioning. An HVAC system enables you to regulate your home or building’s internal temperature (thermal control) for comfortable living and working. You can bring heat levels down in the summer and up in the winter, keeping your home or office livable year-round. HVAC systems can also help with humidity levels and regulate indoor air quality in a home or office. There are many types of HVAC systems and technologies available.

Many homes have a forced-air HVAC system. Both the heating and the central air conditioning units share a ductwork system where they either push in or pull out warm or cooled air. There are also heating and cooling systems that don’t require ductwork — such as ductless mini-splits — but work on the same principles of heat exchange. The national average to hire an HVAC specialist is $2,920-$3,670, with costs varying depending on the work you need done and the equipment you are installing.

How much does it cost to get central air?

Prices for central-air HVAC systems will vary. The national average to hire an HVAC specialist is $2,920-$3,670 but can run as high as $5,000 or even $12,000 depending on the capacity you need and other factors. Installing central air conditioning requires an entire system that works together to draw hot air out of your home. The system includes an outdoor unit, which houses the condenser and compressor, and the evaporator coils. If you don’t have an existing duct system, ductwork will need to be installed, which will affect labor and material costs. Leaking or damaged ducts will also need to be replaced.

How many years does HVAC last?

The number of years an HVAC system lasts depend on the type and brand of components that make up your system. The lifespan of an air conditioner averages between 15 and 20 years. The life expectancy of a tankless water heater is approximately 20 years, while a storage water heater is closer to 10-15 years. Ducts may need replacing within 10-15 years. Your equipment will have a longer life if you have regular tuneups and maintenance to keep everything in good working order. If you’re having repair problems and your HVAC system is over 10 years old, it’s a good time to consider the costs and benefits of repairing vs. replacing. Energystar.gov provides the following tips to help you decide whether to repair or replace:

  • Your HVAC system needs frequent repairs and your energy bills are increasing.
  • Your cooling or heating equipment is less efficient.
  • Rooms in your home are too hot or too cold.
  • Your heat pump or air conditioner is more than 10 years old.
    • Replacing your system with an Energy Star-certified unit could save up to 20 percent on your heating and cooling bills.
  • Your furnace or boiler is more than 15 years old.
    • You may choose to replace your system with an Energy Star-certified furnace (which is 15 percent more efficient than a conventional furnace) or an Energy Star-certified boiler (which is 5 percent more efficient).
  • Your home has humidity problems.
  • Your home has excessive dust.
    • Leaky ducts can pull particles and air from attics, crawl spaces and basements and distribute them throughout your house. Sealing your ducts may be a solution.
  • Your heating or cooling system is noisy.
    • You could have an undersized duct system or a problem with the indoor coil of your cooling equipment.
  • Your score on the Home Energy Yardstick is below five.
    • That means your home energy use is above average and you're probably paying too much for your utilities.

How much does it cost for a new air conditioning unit?

If you’re ready for a new air conditioning unit, it’s time to start exploring HVAC prices. The price will vary depending on the type of air conditioner you buy and its cooling capacity. Window units, which require minimal installation, are one of the most affordable options on the market. If you’re purchasing from a big-box store, you can expect to pay approximately $120-$1,000 for a window unit. Window units are appealing for their quick setup and relatively low cost, but they can use more energy over time than central air and only cool the room in which they’re installed. Portable air conditioners don’t have the cooling power of a window unit, but they do have the perk of being transportable from room to room. Expect to pay between $225 and $800 for a portable air conditioner, on average. For a whole-house air conditioning system with coils, condenser and line (not including installation or ductwork), the cost from a big-box store can range from approximately $2,000 to $4,000 or more. If you don’t have (and don’t want to put in) ducts, a ductless mini-split air conditioner is a good option, although pricey up front. Pricing can range from $650 to $4,250 per unit on average; you’ll need one unit for each room in which you want temperature control.
