Hire them first. They are the most important part of your day. Without them you are not married just having a party. When choosing your officiant remember not to focus just on the cost. They bring much more than the amount you pay to the ceremony and rehearsal. More important is how they make you feel. Define for yourself the type of person you want to perform your ceremony. Are they subdued, refined, fun? This is what they will bring to your wedding ceremony and make it memorable. Give yourself more than a robot officiant reading a ceremony just to save a buck.
