Yi-Chen Piano Lessons (Piano/Theory/Composition)

Hi! I’m Yi-Chen, a passionate piano teacher with over six years of experience working with students from age four through adulthood. I hold a Master’s degree in Music Scoring from the Jacobs School of Music at Indiana University, as well as a Bachelor’s degree in Composition. I teach piano, music theory, and composition, helping students build strong musical foundations while developing confidence and enjoyment at the keyboard. My teaching covers classical and pop repertoire, music theory, harmony, sight-reading, and aural skills. I have successfully prepared students for ABRSM and MTAC Certificate of Merit examinations, with several students earning State Honors, and I have taught over 40 students of varying levels to date. I also provide coaching for recitals and performances. I am experienced in working with students of diverse learning needs and am known for a patient, warm, and supportive teaching approach, with clear communication with both students and parents. Each lesson is tailored to the student’s goals—whether learning for enjoyment, structured progression, or exam preparation. In addition to teaching, I am an award-winning composer, a recipient of the Apulia Soundtrack Award (2025), with works screened at international film festivals. I also bring professional experience as a music editor for Warner Music Group, which enhances my attention to musical detail, timing, and tone in teaching.
