I attended Cynthia Jolicoeur’s “Intro to Personal Defense Readiness” course in the Boston area over Labor Day week-end last year (9/4/16). I had no specific expectations other than to learn some new ideas and techniques. (I am a 5th degree black belt in the Ed Parker American Kenpo style, so brought that experience and mindset into the training.) I was quite pleased to receive such a thorough presentation on how the Blauer PDR system differs from martial arts training, along with a wealth of other information that is not typically provided in self-defense training, in particular the psychological and emotional components that accompany the physical aspect. Cynthia was extremely knowledgeable and well-versed in this material and answered most participant questions without referring to notes. The physical component was ably demonstrated by Cynthia and her “bad guy,” Dave Rood. All the participants had multiple opportunities to practice on them and on each other. The outdoor scenarios were excellent and provided realistic “hands on” experience of what to do (or not do) in the event of an unexpected attack. Cynthia’s own black belt karate experience is invaluable for helping participants who come from a martial arts background remember how the PDR system is different. Not that the martial arts experience is wrong, but that there are cases when it’s ineffective and doesn’t really prepare the martial artist mentally to respond appropriately to a sudden, violent attack. I highly recommend Cynthia’s course.

Thomas is a phenomal trainer, I would rate my overall expierence with him as an 11/10. His multi-faceted training approach targets everything from nutrition, personalized training regamines, recovery and supplementation. My sessions have included strength and interval training as well as self defense martial arts. I work in law enforcement and found a necessity to upgrade my hand to hand techniques which Thomas as helped me greatly improve. After several sessions with Thomas I was able to learn his diverse background in the fitness realm, from high school athlete to professional mixed martial artist. His training sessions were very specific to my need, and extremely intense as well. Not only is he an excellent coach that talks the talk with an encyclopedia of knowledge, he walks the walk. It's nice to see a trainer who practices what they preach and puts in the work. If you want an awesome workout and great session check him out.
Ray is great at communicating the basics in a way that is easy to remember. Sometimes trying to learn basic martial arts/self-defense can be intimidating but Ray created a very comfortable environment.

While I only play in Mens league down in San Jose now, I consistently sit at the top of the league scoring and helped power our team to 2 CAHA state championships in the last 3 years. John, the owner of the gym, knows what it takes as an elite athlete. Having played in the NFL, he understands both the mental and physical components of your optimal self. The sessions are fun and energetic, John knows how to push people (in a good way) to make sure they reach their goals. Definitely recommend Pro-Fitness.
My three children have been training with Jay since they were five years old. Now that they are becoming teenagers, they look to him for physical training but also as a life coach. Jay teaches self discipline and respect as he coaches. My wife and I have been training with Jay for the last one year. We have trained with Jay for fitness, self defense, kickbox, and jujitsu. Since we enjoy working with him, we have also scheduled our own private family classes with him. I learn something new each class and have fun at the same time. There is no need to spend several years in a martial art to learn how to defend yourself. Strength, size and athleticism are not required. We have special programs to meet anyone's needs, whether you are in the military, a senior citizen, or in a dangerous job which requires self protection. We teach classes on a one-on-one basis, or in groups. Right now, we are having group classes once a week at the Cubberly Auditorium in Mountain View from 8:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. on Tuesdays.

United Studio of Self Defense, Foster City has an ongoing mission: to help the women in our community safeguard themselves against crime and assault, so they may enjoy a long, fulfilled and healthy lives. Our campaign is to help women to be well-informed, prepared with awareness, safety tips and basic defense maneuvers. Self-defense is for young girls, teens and women of all ages. We teach women in the workplace how to defend against using basic in-close kicks and strikes, using everyday keys, tools, writing instruments, self-defense weapons, e.g., kubotans (small metal or wooden stick). We teach to fend off realistic attacks such as two-hand grabs, single-wrist grabs, chokes, bear hugs, hair pulls and knife or club attacks. We work on strength and core training, which includes pad and bag work where women can really display their power and cardio endurance and fight back if they have to. Our program teaches the girls how to empower themselves mentally and physically, to know their surrounding and to prevent becoming a victim of kidnapping, assault, rape or murder. One out of 5 women are attacked in the US, which includes statistics even from our universities. Girls have a higher ratio of kidnappings compared to boys, just as women fall victim compared to men. In the US alone, not including worldwide statistics, 11,766 women were killed through domestic violence and 24 experienced intimate partner violence per minute. Our campaign is to reduce these stats. It's important to safeguard the women of our community, to fight for a safe place to live and work. The women in our program can customize the class schedule and include female family members or friends, a social club or work team. The sessions range from 1 hour to 2 hours and some will sign up for an ongoing program. We are available every day of the week, weekdays, Mondays through Fridays, from 12:00 to 9:00 p.m. and on Saturdays, from 9:00 to 2:00 p.m. and Sundays, from 9:00 to 11:00 p.m. Many of the women who complete our training have a great time and learn a lot about themselves and their surroundings, feeling the empowerment from within, feeling fearless to impact their own lives. Having lived in Japan for 8 years does not make me a better instructor, in and of itself. Nor does having been a tournament champion. 35+ years doing Karate and several years doing other martial arts helps my level of understanding. Having a deeper technical knowledge than almost anyone else outside of Japan helps as well. But what really sets me apart is the passion that I have, not only for Karate-do as a way of life, but for teaching it in a way that helps students progress as quickly as they are capable of.
We teach in a safe, friendly and fun environmemt where each student is given one on one training. We are passionate about our students and martial arts. And our multi-discipline based self-defense program, for adults, is both effective, efficient and practical. Regardless of goals or motivation, all students find our program offers the ability to enhance their lives in a disciplined and fun manner. All instructors are certified to teach and are also CPR/First Aid Certified. We're not about marketing and making money, we're about enriching the lives of our students.
Twin Tigers Kung Fu has produced 32 world champions and 47 divisional champions out of our studio. Our instructors consist of 4 world champion competitors. Stand out? I don't know. If you want me to teach you how to fight or help you to improve, then so be it. But if you want me to give you a sales pitch on how I stand out, I honestly don't know. I've never thought of it before until now, and I'm most likely not going to even after the end of this sentence.
