Introduction: Private guitar lessons are the way to go. Groups slow you down or stress you out cause...you will pick it up at a different pace than your classmates. I've been there.
I always teach my students how to read music on the staff as well as tab. I intentionally work music theory into my lessons to ensure that the students receive the big picture of how music works and not just learning guitar solos, like they would off of YouTube. I teach music theory sessions for those who play other instruments, are preparing to go to music school, or just feel that they may have skipped over this part of learning guitar.
The ability to play musical instruments has opened so many opportunities to me. Playing music with or for others is such a gift that communicates things across even language and cultural barriers. I began taking lessons in 5th grade (over 20 years ago) with a small guitar my grandfather handed down to me. It's very fulfilling to know that all the work I've poured into an instrument can be not only an enrichment to my own life for a benefit to those around me.
Long story short...share in this fun journey with me. I love to see the light come on for others.
