We hired Josh to cater our wedding. Pros: Great food. Everything tasted awesome. Cons: - Quoting: The quoting process was a headache. He initially gave us a quote that we were happy with (it generally matched the filters we were using to search caterers on Thumbtack). Two weeks before the event, he sends a bill that was $2k higher than the initial quote. He said the initial quote didn't include labor costs. We felt like he took advantage of us at a time when we couldn't back out and find another vendor. - Delivery: On the day of the event, food prep took much longer than expected. When it did come out, quantities and size proportions were too small. Guests complained that they waited a long time for the food to come out. Most guests mentioned that they did not get appetizers. Mosts guests mentioned they were still hungry after dinner.

Our experience with Joshua was absolutely outstanding - effortless and beyond expectations in every way. The menu he created for us was creative and innovative, his food was incredibly delicious and excellently prepared, and his beer matchings just perfect. If I could give Joshua and Palate Catering six stars, I would. There is no question that the next time we have a similar event, I am going straight back to Joshua because I know I will be guaranteed excellence. Have him send you his menus to get an idea of the magic he can create for you!

I coordinated a variety of events for very senior executives that I required catering for in October 2014: a casual corporate brunch , a pre-ride breakfast at a cycling store, wine & cheese service for a women only salon experience, and packed lunches for an offsite meeting in Fremont for the day. These events were hosted at different locations and times throughout San Francisco over the course of a week. I initially decided to go use Palate catering because Josh is so attentive and professional. Being based in NYC, choosing a caterer who has excellent communication skills was key in my decision. Josh responds to emails in lightning speed, and makes you feel like your event/s are his number one priority. No task is too small, no request is too outlandish or tedious - he just makes it happen (with a smile). Josh is punctual, flexible, attentive and has an excellent eye for detail. I could text him at the very last minute to pick up something I had forgotten or overlooked and he would be on it right away. I had to make changes to my order several times throughout the week, and Josh was always accommodating and open to making these changes. The number one thing that blew me away was the way that Josh worked as a member of our team (and not a vendor). He went above and beyond in every way possible - serving guests, working with third parties, and dealing with difficult situations when I was focused on other aspects of the event. The food was impeccable, the wines were stunning - everything was brought in fresh from Napa Valley daily (amazing!). Josh is down to earth, personable and obviously very good at what he does - he just gets it. Thank YOU Josh for making each and every one of our events such a success. Wishing you every success in the future, and looking forward to working with you again in the not too distant future.

I am a graduate of The Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park, NY. I have "studied" under some amazing people...namely Mario Batali, Thomas Keller, and Michael Mina.
How did you get started doing this type of work?
Just like all good things in life, it was an accident.
What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?
I ask questions. I want to know exactly what you want. Trust me to give it to you. And if I cannot, I will tell you.
