Dee Cee is the best dogwalker I have ever had. She is reliable, trustworthy, and my two Rottweilers absolutely love her. She walks them an hour each day, Monday through Friday. I can't say enough good things about her. I trust her with my dogs more than I do members of my own family.

Nothing but positive things to say. Contacted Cynthia and Darren less than a week prior to my week-long vacation seeing if they could sit our cat and bunny. They said it was no problem, came to our house to meet our pets the night I called. While we were gone, they left texts on arrival and departure each night, sent pics and videos. We felt great knowing our pets were in such good hands while we were gone. Cynthia and Darren's genuine love for animals shines through in their attitude and enthusiasm for the job. Highly recommend!

Shireen provided excellent advice on how to break our young male labradoodle from marking in the house. She responded to my initial inquiry quickly and arrived at our house on time. It is apparent that she loves animals and what she does. I highly recommend her services.

As a pet sitter goes, there's no one better than Kelsey and her team. She is responsive, engaging, professional and has a true love and passion for pets. She bonded with our two dachshunds immediately and they were always so happy (and tired!) on the days she would visit. We especially loved her little notes she would leave behind summarizing how her visits went.

Alexandra is a wonderful dog sitter. She really cares about the animals. Her mantra is safety first. I can now go on vacation and know that my pet will be safe and loved. Alexandra has been a life saver and a life changer as I used to hate to go anywhere knowing I would have to leave my dog. Finding a trustworthy sitter was always a problem. But not anymore. My pet is always happy to see her and that tells it all. I know my dog is well treated and cared for. I can now leave her with a peace of mind. I also really appreciate Alexandra’s professionalism and trustworthiness. She is also punctual.

Lila is a wonderful pet sitter and she took excellent care of my cat while I was away for two weeks. My cat is very particular and often does not react well to strangers but he loved Lila. She played with him every day and kept the food area and litter box very clean. I highly recommend using Lila to pet sit and will be calling her again myself.

We were really happy with our experience with Amanda. She met with us beforehand to go over all the details and was in contact with us daily while we were gone. It was very reassuring to know our pets were cared for while we were gone. She left a detailed form for each visit with information about the Pat's and what she did. We will definitely call Amanda next time we need pet sitting!

I have 2 cats. A Seal Point Himalayan and a Russian Angora. Both are very exotic high maintenance pets. Glenda understands that these are my babies and need more than just normal care. Both need to be brushed at least once or twice a day, eyes cleaned, furball prevention along with play time during the day, and maintaining special diets. Because of my work I may have periods of absence in which Glenda has to step in and be my proxy. I never have any concerns or worries when Glenda is at the house. I know my kitties are as important to her as they are to me. I would just never trust anyone else for something so important. I've known Glenda for over 10 years. She is the BEST. You will never regret having her care for your babies. I highly, highly recommend Glenda.

Lisa was very attentive with my dogs. They are seniors so I worry a lot. I've had many dog sitters that don't know what to do with older dogs. Lisa was perfect. When I got home they were as relaxed as when I left. She checked in often and I knew she was at my home , Caring for them. I would highly recommend Lisa.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost to hire a house sitter?

House-sitting can be a lifesaver when you’re leaving town for any length of time. Whether you work remotely, you’re taking a much-needed vacation, or you just want to road-trip for a few days, it’s wise to have a pro keep an eye on your house and pets while you’re gone. Your home is more likely to stay safe and you won’t have to wrangle the kitty into a kennel to travel with you. The national average pet-sitting price ranges between $20 and $30. Pet-sitting and house-sitting costs will vary based on where you live in the country and regional labor rates. Another factor in cost is how long you want the house-sitter to stay. Some people prefer to have the house-sitter stay the night at their house, perhaps to care for an elderly pet or simply to keep a watchful eye on the home at all times. Overnight stays will cost more, ranging anywhere from $50 to $100, depending on services provided. For day visits, house-sitting and pet-sitting prices will increase incrementally the longer the visit and the more service you want performed. For example, a quick 10-minute visit to feed and walk the pet and bring in the mail could be $12.50, a 25-minute visit could be $18, a 40-minute visit $25, and a 50-minute visit $32. How much should you pay for a pet sitter?

Pet sitting provides your precious pet with in-home care. A pet-sitter can make a brief visit during the day to provide snacks, playtime or affection, or stay at your house for one or more nights to tend to your pet. Prices for pet-sitting will vary based on length of the visit. Nationally, pet sitting prices range from $20 to $30, although prices run higher for your sitter to stay the night. Prices will also be affected by where you live in the country. Here are some examples of average pet-sitting prices based on length of time and region:

  • 30-minute visit: $17 in a small Texas town.
  • 30-minute visit: $25 in Southern California.
    • 45-minute visit: $28.
    • 60-minute visit: $32.
  • Overnight stay (10 hours): $50 in Texas.
  • Overnight stay (10 hours): $85 in Southern California.
    • 12 hours: $100.
    • 24 hours: $200. This is a good option for a sick, elderly or brand-new pet that needs constant supervision.
