Dee Cee came to our apartment and within half an hour I saw immense improvement in the relationship between the dog and the cat. She gave us excellent advice and doesn't ask for repeat sessions. I really appreciated her forthcomingness in not giving us any promises but the promise that she was giving us the tools to succeed.

We had Steve train our Golden (puppy) and was amazed on how she turn out, no more biting, chewing. She now can walk with a leash by your side, she will sit and stay, down stay she comes when called. She was kennel trained and It took about three weeks and well worth it. you will need to work with your dog when you get home. You must watch the DVD, Steve can tell if you don't. If you want the perfect pet don't waste your time or money with the other guy's, Steve is the real deal!! Joe from Norco, Ca

Maureen was very responsive to texts/calls/emails. She made sure to address the individual needs of my family/pet. She packed in so much information into just one session and provided us with some unexpected extras. We have already seen an improvement in our puppy's behavior after one session. I love her positive approach to modifying behavior. She was also super patient with us (first time dog parents). We had some very basic questions but she spent extra time with us to make sure we were set before she left. Will definitely use her again and refer friends in need of doggy help.

I have a GSD with a serious case of separation anxiety. We got pet walkers to help and Jessie was one of them. Jessie was not afraid, took control, and my dog loves her. Jessie is prompt, will let you know if she notices anything wrong, and will make suggestions on food/training if you need help. She goes above and beyond - she helped search for my dog when sable escaped the vet/boarding kennel facility on her own time. I highly recommend Jessie's walking and overnight pet sitting.

I used Golden Pet Services once before for a long weekend for cat feeding/litter box cleaning services. The company seems very professional, and setting up the service was seamless (as they have an online booking website). Michael, the owner, was responsive and sent daily photos and updates on the cats. I will definitely use his services again.

Jo stayed with our pets - dog and cat - while we were away. The pets were happy when we returned and the house was in better shape than we left it. I plan to ask Jo to take care of the pets and house when I have to travel again. I highly recommend her to anyone needing a house/pet sitter.

Kayla provided pet sitting for my 3 cats. She feed them and cleaned litter boxes daily for 12 days. She played and groomed them to the extent my cats would let her. She made sure my one cat that required medication got that daily. I would recommend her to others and use her again.

We were really happy with our experience with Amanda. She met with us beforehand to go over all the details and was in contact with us daily while we were gone. It was very reassuring to know our pets were cared for while we were gone. She left a detailed form for each visit with information about the Pat's and what she did. We will definitely call Amanda next time we need pet sitting!

We have a 3 1/2 year old cat that is new (2 weeks) to our family. The vet suggested that the cat stay home and not be boarded while we are on a short trip. George (Wiskers, Tails and Mail) was very understanding of our situation. He took excellent care of our cat and her new environment (litter box, feeding area, etc.). George also kept me informed on her activities while we were away. Utilizing the services of Wiskers, Tails and Mail was a huge relief during our time away. I highly recommend George and his company as they really provide more then pet sitting. They also supply peace of mind for the owner. P.S. I ran out of time to have the mail stopped and at the last minute George stepped into collect the mail on a daily basis. What a life saver! George and Lorna, thanks for everything!

Lynn and Jared are absolutely WONDERFUL!!! They truly love animals and it really shows. We have used them for years now and each time we feel comfortable, confident and rest assured that our furry bunch will be well taken care of. We have 4 dogs and 4 cats and all of them love, love, love Lynn and Jared very much. They get a ton of love and attention and are all very happy and healthy upon our return. Lynn and Jared treat all of our pets as if they were their own. Other petsitters charge in 30-minute increments and only stay for the time you pay for. Lynn and Jared stay as long as needed to get everything done and to make sure everyone gets a lot of attention. They make sure the house is cleaner than they found it, which is truly appreciated. They clean the dog waste in the backyard and keep the litter boxes nice and clean. They leave detailed notes on each visit and what each pet was up to. They bring in the mail and take out the trash on trash day to keep up the appearance that people are still home. They do not charge extra for giving medication, getting the mail, watering plants, etc., as many others do. All of that is included in their already very reasonable prices. Their contractor Amanda is also WONDERFUL. She is very sweet and hard working as well. She has the same love for animals as Lynn and Jared, treating ours as if her own. Our animals all love her too. Amanda holds the same values, principles and hard work ethic that the owners have established as the foundation for their business and it really shows in her work and dedication. She also makes sure that the pets are happy and healthy and the house is clean and orderly. I couldn't thank all of them enough for everything they do for our furry bunch... and with 8 animals that is truly an amazing feat! I would highly recommend Truly TLC Pet Sitting.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What does a dog walker do?

We all know our dogs love going on long, adventure-filled walks, but jobs and family and commuting can make it difficult to give them the leash time they deserve. You can hire a professional dog walker to make sure your furry friend gets adequate exercise and outdoor time each day. A professional dog walker may be an individual contractor or work for a dedicated dog-walking company. In either case, you want to make sure the pro has the appropriate insurance in case of an emergency. Some people opt to give the dog walker a key to their house; others to have them pick up the dog from the yard. Dog walking can happen as often as multiple times per day, or just a few times a month as needed. Here are some questions to ask when you are interviewing a new dog walker:

  • Will you or someone else be walking my dog?
  • Do you have a backup plan if you can’t make it for a scheduled walk?
  • Will you walk my dog by itself, or do you walk several dogs at once?
  • What are your different walk routes?
  • When will you pick up and drop off?
  • How will we communicate?
  • Do I have to commit to a schedule or are you flexible?
  • What’s your cancellation policy?
  • What’s your response plan if my dog gets injured or becomes sick?
  • How and how often do I pay you?
  • Do you offer package pricing if I buy multiple dog walks up front?

How much do dog walkers charge?

The cost of dog walking depends on several factors including length and frequency of dog walks, the number of dogs on the walk, distance to your house, and any additional services you request. The national average cost range for a dog walk is $10-$20, but that price will vary based on where you live in the country and the regional cost of living and doing business.

The longer the dog walk, the higher your costs will be. Dog walkers offer a range of walk lengths, from 15-minute potty breaks to long hikes of 120 minutes or more. For example, a dog walker may charge $15 for a 15-minute walk and $35 for a 35-minute walk. Requesting that your dog be the only animal on the walk will typically mean a higher cost than if you permit your dog to be walked in a pack of dogs. You may be able to get a discounted rate if you have more than one dog to be walked. For example, a professional dog walker may charge $28 for one dog or $33 for two dogs on a 60-minute walk. If you need additional help — like feeding the dogs or giving them medication — dog walkers may be able to provide this service at an additional fee. Dog walkers may charge higher rates for walking your dogs on holidays.

How much does it cost to hire a house sitter?

House-sitting can be a lifesaver when you’re leaving town for any length of time. Whether you work remotely, you’re taking a much-needed vacation, or you just want to road-trip for a few days, it’s wise to have a pro keep an eye on your house and pets while you’re gone. Your home is more likely to stay safe and you won’t have to wrangle the kitty into a kennel to travel with you. The national average pet-sitting price ranges between $20 and $30. Pet-sitting and house-sitting costs will vary based on where you live in the country and regional labor rates. Another factor in cost is how long you want the house-sitter to stay. Some people prefer to have the house-sitter stay the night at their house, perhaps to care for an elderly pet or simply to keep a watchful eye on the home at all times. Overnight stays will cost more, ranging anywhere from $50 to $100, depending on services provided. For day visits, house-sitting and pet-sitting prices will increase incrementally the longer the visit and the more service you want performed. For example, a quick 10-minute visit to feed and walk the pet and bring in the mail could be $12.50, a 25-minute visit could be $18, a 40-minute visit $25, and a 50-minute visit $32. How much should you pay for a pet sitter?

Pet sitting provides your precious pet with in-home care. A pet-sitter can make a brief visit during the day to provide snacks, playtime or affection, or stay at your house for one or more nights to tend to your pet. Prices for pet-sitting will vary based on length of the visit. Nationally, pet sitting prices range from $20 to $30, although prices run higher for your sitter to stay the night. Prices will also be affected by where you live in the country. Here are some examples of average pet-sitting prices based on length of time and region:

  • 30-minute visit: $17 in a small Texas town.
  • 30-minute visit: $25 in Southern California.
    • 45-minute visit: $28.
    • 60-minute visit: $32.
  • Overnight stay (10 hours): $50 in Texas.
  • Overnight stay (10 hours): $85 in Southern California.
    • 12 hours: $100.
    • 24 hours: $200. This is a good option for a sick, elderly or brand-new pet that needs constant supervision.
