- What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?
Do some minimal research online about how HVAC systems work. Then ask the professional whom you are considering hiring to explain what is needed for your job. Also think about or do the following: 1. Check to see that the company is in good standing with the State of California. 2. Before moving ahead with the work, ask to see the company's insurance documents. 3. Trust you gut feeling about the person(s) with whom you meet/talk from the company. Make it your business to chit chat with them to really get a feel for the person. 4. Find about about manufacturer's warranty as well as the installer (labor) warranty. 5. Talk to your friends to see if they have any similar experiences (with the same type of work). 6. Ask for the quote/proposal for the work, in writing. Look closely at the actual proposal. A clear, neat description of the work, along with the price, is an excellent indication about what that company is all about. (A messy, vague, proposal could reveal that the management of the company places little value on detail, and does not even feel that taking a few minutes to present itself an a good light is even worthwhile. Maybe this organization would handle the work with the same lack of regard.) 7. Envision the company working in your home and ask other questions than the technical ones (think out of the box). For example, ask them about work times, length of job, or what kind of measures do they take to protect your property. Also, make sure that they will have time to spend with you at the end of the job, to further explain and teach you about the equipment.
