We were first hesitant to hire Brian, only because we were not sure about his experience with refinishing decks. But after talking to him and meeting with him, I understood that he knew what he was talking about and the proper process involved in refinishing a deck. Being that we finished the deck ourselves last time after we built it, we knew what had to be done. He did the job in stages, and even cleaned some windows.
Not only did he pressure wash the deck and rails which is the easy part, but he also used a deck cleaner/brightener and then sanded it. He then finished the deck prep by brushing out the wood grains with a bristle brush to allow the sealer to properly penetrate. Lastly, he fixed a couple boards which were damaged and fixed the ones which had some gap issues. We used Penofin, an oil product which we were not interested in at first, but after researching, talking to Mead Clark and Friedman's, we once again knew that he was steering us on the right track. He had some issue with some tools as he was working, but still kept on schedule and let me know what was going on and the progress. He even came back after the deck was completed to check and see if there needed to be additional touchups or cleaning. He cleaned up some small stain splatters on the wall and left the place looking as if he was never there. Glad we hired him and got this done before winter. I was feeling overwhelmed with the project as it came about quickly, and he took it all in stride.
