Introduction
I will work with you from wherever you are toward where you want to be. I have particular experience with gifted children, but have also worked extensively with average children and with adults returning to the piano. I am a member of the Music Teachers' Association of California (MTAC), Alameda County Branch, and enroll students in the annual state music exams, excellent for providing structure and ensuring that students work to established standards. Each student is of course a unique individual, and my primary focus is relating to that uniqueness.

Ms. Dean has been a vital part of our children's life for almost a decade. She is an amazing piano teacher who individualizes lessons based not only on skill level but interests, personalities, learning styles, and more. She teaches all the varied skills needed to truly have a long-term love of music including sight reading, music theory, listening skills, etc. We cannot recommend Ms. Dean enough.

I have been taking lessons from Dean for about a year and a half now and I could not imagine a better piano teacher. Under Dean's tutelage I went from 0 piano playing experience to passing the Certificate of Merit level 3 exam. The lessons are well structured, goal oriented and personally tailored to my piano learning goals. Dean is an encouraging and patient teacher that makes learning piano approachable and fun.

I played piano for a couple years when I was a young adult and enjoyed the music, but not the teachers I worked with who cared more about my finishing a piece rather than playing it well or expressively. I wanted to take up piano playing as an adult, but this became an off and on activity since I never seemed to progress in my piano skills with the teachers I worked with. It wasn't until I met Dean that I finally found a piano teacher who listened, encouraged, challenged, and helped me measurably improve my piano playing. I can now tackle music that I never considered playing when I first started with Dean. She is the reason that I continue to play piano, find joy in it, and feel able to express myself through piano music. Whereas before I considered myself someone who plucked around with the keys, I'm now constantly surprised at how well I play (as though I'm looking at someone else's fingers on the keyboard, but it's mine) and how long I've kept up with piano considering my past track record. It has been over twelve years since I started playing piano under Dean's tutelage, and I'm so grateful that I've had the opportunity to work with her for this long of a period. I highly recommend Dean as a piano teacher for pianists at any age or level.
