Introduction: Hi there! I'm Jordan, an experienced vocal and yoga instructor in San Francisco and Los Altos Hills. I've been working with developing the mind body connection and training the voice for 20 years! I'm a certified vinyasa, prenatal/postnatal, and kids' yoga instructor, and I also teach yin and gentle yoga. I have extensive experience with helping my students recover from injury and create better balance in the body. For all you singers out there, I teach musical theater, opera, jazz/blues, and pop. I've studied classical and contemporary voice with Mindy Lym and Debra Lambert, and taken workshops in vocal pedagogy, teaching musical theater voice, the Alexander method, Linklater vocal work, and numerous other teaching methodologies. My students say I am uniquely skilled in 'disconnecting them from their nervous system(s)' and helping them relax and find joy in our work. I love working with all ages, from kiddos to retirees! I am available both for remote and in person sessions, and I am fully vaccinated. Feel free to check out my website at jordankersten.com, and I'd love to connect to answer any questions you might have. Hope to stretch/move/sing with you sometime soon! Warmly, Jordan

FAQs

  • What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

For yoga classes, I charge $125 for an hour class. For private voice lessons, I charge $50 for 30 min, $63 for 45 min, and $75 for 1 hour lesson. There may be an additional fee for clients I am traveling to.

  • What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

I trained in music, theater and human development at UC San Diego, and I've been studying voice and performing for over 20 years. I'm also a certified yoga instructor, and I've been teaching people how to become more in touch with their bodies and relax using mindfulness techniques for over ten years. I've studied Vocal Pedagogy with Berklee School of Music, and I will be taking their Rock and Pop course this year to further my knowledge of instructing contemporary voice. As a yoga teacher, I've studied yoga and meditation for 17 years. I am a 300 hour E-RYT, and am trained in vinyasa, hatha, yin yoga, gentle yoga, and yoga for kids. I am also CPR certified and continue to study anatomy and various styles of movement.

  • How did you get started doing this type of work?

I have always loved to sing, and I've always loved to teach and help people reach their goals. A few years ago the Music Director of a choir I was section leading for asked me if I'd be available to teach voice lessons. After some thought, I decided that was the direction I'd like to go! I brushed off my piano, trained in Vocal Pedagogy, and began offering lessons to my friends and colleagues. Soon after I realized what a match made in heaven voice teaching was for me!
