Introduction: I have enough teaching experience to quickly spot things in a student and customize a lesson plan that will be tailored toward their way of learning. Everyone is different and what makes total sense to one person may confuse another. It's my goal to help each student learn with as little frustration as possible and help them move in a direction that keeps them excited about what they are doing. I love helping students learn and see them develop with my help. Music is my greatest joy in life and sharing what I've learned with others is something that I'm very passionate about.

Steve is that rare type of person who, though incredibly talented, can set aside his ego to offer expert, objective guidance in a personally motivated way. Steve is patient and attentive, these qualities only eclipsed by his tremendous knowledge which stems from his own passion to grow and improve. Funny, personable and easy growing, I'd recommend him for all level of players as your sure to get one-on-one, hand-tailored lessons which will help you to become a better player. Steve takes the time to listen and will shoot you straight in a way that's honest and respectful, and in the end you'll have a great time learning to fly under his more than capable wings. Whether you want to jam out on complex metal riffs or run through the basics with a Mel Bay book, Steve Marshall is your man!

I've been taking guitar lessons from Steve for a few years and there really are no complaints. He's very focused on teaching the student what they want to learn and does a great job of helping/showing the freedom of getting what they want from their instrument. From reading music to playing cover songs to writing your own tunes and everything in between, there's never a boring or uninteresting lesson from Steve.

I'm and old guy who had aspirations to play like a young country star and you know how that works out. But with Steve's knowledge, skills and extreme patience I've gone a lot farther with my playing than I probably should have. He let me chose whatever I wanted to focus on and led me through until I could play it well. Steve's a great music teacher!

Guitar Lessons

FAQs

  • What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

I am constantly learning. Whether it's a new instruction book, workshop, college class or even a lesson from a fellow teacher, I am just as eager to learn something new as I was when I started playing. I pick up many things all the time that I pass along to the benefit of my students.

  • How did you get started doing this type of work?

I always admired my childhood guitar teacher because he knew so much and was an excellent player. I had always pushed myself to one day have the knowledge and ability that he had. I got started teaching when I was asked by a friend (a fellow guitar teaching) to substitute for him while he was sick. Teaching felt very natural and I could see that the students enjoyed the lessons I had given. I began gathering students and have been making my living as a full time musician and teacher ever since.

  • What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

When looking for a teacher, you should try to find someone who is not only knowledgeable, but someone who is good at making your lessons fun as well as informative. You should look forward to each lesson and walk away from them eager to practice the things you have just learned and be inspired by who you are learning from.
