We highly recommend Lois For tutoring. She is well known in Honolulu and has years of experience. She tutored our granddaughter when she needed to take the entrance exams into private schools. Lois has great knowledge of children and skill in getting them to do their work. Her lessons were challenging and fun. Our grandaughter could hardly wait to return to her next session. We wish Lois was here to tutor our grandaughter in her college SATS. Carol Lehman

Since 2016, I have made it a tradition to do or buy something for myself that is an investment to celebrate me. This year on my birthday, I decided that I wanted to work towards the career goals that I had always wanted as well as self-discovery along the way. While I read other testimonials and the approaches that other life coaches had, I came across Fawn’s page and was interested in speaking to her more about her coaching methods. After we spoke over the phone, I felt an immediate connection and at ease to move forward with our journey together. In the beginning, I discussed my fears and the roadblocks that I have been facing for years. Fawn listened, and provided NUMEROUS helpful resources that really changed the way I looked at things as well as coming up with an action plan that is best suitable for me. What surprised me the most is that I have learned immensely about myself along the way, my personal relationships with others, and to constructively think about how to tackle most obstacles that I’m faced with. The entire journey has been nothing but a positive and an empowering experience, and I have so much gratitude in my heart that I was able to receive Fawn’s guidance. I have learned how to communicate better, face my fears of confrontation, listen to my gut instincts and make decisions that best serves me. The tools she provided and the lessons I’ve learned along the way have proved the be invaluable, that I will carry with me and always remember. I would highly recommend Fawn to those who feels stuck in life, or struggles with finding fulfillment because she will help you explore a path that you wouldn’t consider before and you’ll be pleasantly surprised at your own personal self-growth.

Daniel provided coaching on a 6,000 word essay. Daniel was great. He provided help with grammar, sentence structure, and flow of the essay. He did not "correct" the essay, he was a coach who gave guidance and shared lessons on how to think about the work that will be helpful in the future.

Most relationship experts talk a good game, but Merle walks the talk. I have learned so much from training her and her husband, and see how Merle uses humor to dissolve conflict. This has been a wonderful lesson I will use always.

My experience with Kiana Shaw, Founder of Leadership Academy has been amazing and life changing. Not only has her services assisted me in developing my business, I have also been able to use much of her material, ideas and suggestions as antidotes to what I from time to time felt stuck with as it related to relating proper messages to my teenage daughters and pre-teen. Kiana has shown herself to be loyal to all that she commit to. I will forever be grateful for all that she has been for me. Without a second guess, I would definitely refer Kiana to others who could use her expertise.

Natalia has been a light in my life. We met each other when I was at my lowest point and she helped teach me valuable life changing techniques. Through healthy techniques combining kundalini yoga, meditation, and the power of the positive thought she helped me rewire my destructive pathways of thought in my brain. I am forever thankful for the lessons she has taught me and would recommend her to anybody in need of a life change.

Nicole is a wonderful coach to get anyone started on the journey into Yoga. I retained to for four one-on-one lessons before I ventured into a studio for group sessions and it was money well spent. She is sensitive to existing injuries/personal limitations and can help work around those issues and help anyone feel confident about starting and/or continuing their practice.

Ayinde is a fantastic instructor. In yoga and in life he is able to harness an energy that rubs off on others inside and outside the class experience. His one-on-one lessons are excellent. In fact, he shares a superb practice no matter how large or small the group is.

Julien gave me private yoga lessons in my home. I am a physician and my schedule changes all the time and sometimes I would be running late, however Julien was very accommodating and would smilingly make the required adjustment. She is an excellent yoga teacher and takes great pains to have you achieve your goals. She has a warm, caring and serene personality and on top of it all she is a dog lover! When my Labrador would try to join our lessons she would not get uptight but handle the dog gently and firmly. I wish her success in her new city!

I worked with Kate as an executive coach to develop my leadership and communications skills to work with my team. She is an inspirational coach, who has the intuition to guide people through a process and the tools to help the person improve. Kate comes from with an open heart and teaches you how to be true to yourself and lead with positive energy. I took several classes with her through the Equine/Horse session and practiced leading the horse. They are sensitive animals with high instincts and know when you are coming from a place of truth. It was an amazing experience. I learned to stay the course. I would highly recommend her for a one on one coaching or for a corporate event and team building.

Rebecca changed my life. I was always interested in yoga and had taken numerous classes over the years, but was never able to really stick with it. From the first class, I knew that Rebecca's approach was different. She embodied the mind and body aspect of yoga, instructing in a way that was both accessible and challenging. She has a tremendous amount of knowledge, which she shares in a gentle, kind and humorous way. A natural creative, Rebecca inspires her students, enabling them to achieve their goals and intentions. She is the reason that I continue to practice yoga daily and I cannot recommend her instruction enough. The only downside is that I have yet to find an instructor who compares to Rebecca.

My son was 5 years old when he started working with Michele. I was a bit hesitant to use the Suzuki method for violin because I had been traditionally trained on the piano. Within the first lesson, I was sold! Michele is amazing with my son. She's so patient and always points out the things he's doing correctly so he feels proud of what he's accomplishing. She's really good about laying a strong foundation and my sense is that my son will benefit tremendously from this approach down the line. He loves going to his lessons and Michele finds unique, creative ways to keep him motivated. Michele is great about responding to emails, should I have any questions and is a top-notch professional. And the real proof is that my son loves to play the violin and is making huge strides at playing music. (And it actually sounds like music- not screeching!) I cannot recommend Michele highly enough. She's just great!

I have worked closely with Michael and Andrew for close to 3 years now. They have been diligent, intellectual and very patient with me in this beautiful process of growth. The two of them also bring a level of humor to current circumstances in order to lighten my perspective around next courses of action. Michael and Andrew have a keen knack for understanding a problem / solution world and how to interact with other individuals in any team circumstance. With their partnership my sense of leadership has grown two-fold and I still continue to come them for coaching. My relationship and partnership to them is important and I am grateful for all the growth they have given me as an individual and leader.

About

Hi! My name is Marion. I am French. I moved to LA for my acting career. I am fluent in English and I, myself, am still working on reducing my French accent; so I know how it works and how to learn that, step by step. I have done some design studies in school and some artistic ones (first, in applied arts in high school before my design degree, then acting, TV hosting and coaching). I have been a model for 10 years and traveled the world. I think communication is so important, and I love the idea of learning a new language and the culture, thoughts and habits that go with. I have always been very good in writing. I write and read a lot. I never do any spelling mistakes in French, and I am really good at it. I just love to see someone talk better and better in my language every day. It is motivating and a very good thing to me. I can help you achieve your goal. Marion

We link arts training and information about brain development to higher-order thinking, social, and emotional skills -- creativity, imagination, empathy, emotional regulation, critical thinking, and lifelong learning. We provide a framework that works with common core standards, state standards in all areas and use of technology, as well as with the particular teacher, grade level and school. We put a special focus on "at-risk" youth, foster children, and others that may be entering the classroom with early or current trauma, and how this affects learning and classroom management. We offer an academic mentoring training program for volunteer mentors to support school staff and parents - this is a school-based mentoring for academic achievement. Teachers love these as practical tools for teachers' creativity and ability to integrate current research with their own professional intuition and training.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is a career coach?

If you’re interested in furthering your career and want expert help, a career coach is a smart solution. A career coach is a professional you hire to guide you during a job search or a career transition, or to help you improve and advance in your current position. A career coach analyzes your work situation and learns what your professional goals are. They then create a strategy to help you achieve your targets. Throughout the process they should provide objective feedback and guide you in approaching the process strategically. Here are some of the tools and tasks a career coach may assist you with:

  • Helping you build a strong resume that reflects your work history, potential, and skills
  • Coaching for interviews and strategies for solid answers built around your resume and the target job
  • Defining your career goals
  • Creating a plan for job searching
  • Improving networking strategies and skills
  • Developing strategies for negotiating raises or promotions
  • Assessing why you’re not getting where you want to go
  • Identifying new positions or career opportunities that fit your skills

Why is career counseling important?

Career counseling can help you discover your career path, help you overcome challenges preventing you from finding happiness in your job, or help you learn more about career opportunities that are available to you. Career counselors are typically counselors who specialize in helping guide people into their best career choices. As professionals, they have typically completed a master’s degree in counseling with a focus on career counseling and bring a nuanced understanding of the emotional blocks that prevent someone from doing what they love or getting ahead in their current position. Here are some of the ways that career counseling can help:

  • Identify your skills and talents and how they correlate to different career paths
  • Educate you about the educational requirements for launching in various careers and what earnings can look like
  • Help you understand the kind of environment you want to work in, and which careers are best suited for that
  • See opportunities to transfer your existing skill set to other career areas
  • Help you identify causes of tension or unhappiness in your current career and how to overcome those difficulties
  • Help you create a game plan for moving forward
  • Provide a safe space for you to understand your feelings about career choices you’re making

How much does it cost to hire a career coach?

A career coach provides one-on-one sessions to help you reach your career goals or overcome any challenges you’re having in your career path. The cost to have career coaching can vary based on factors such as the number of sessions you purchase at one time and the experience and rates of your counselor. Career counselors are typically professionals who have earned at least a master’s degree in their field. Based on their academic background, supplemental certifications they have received, and any postdoctoral work they have done, their rates may vary. Typically career counselors offer reduced rates when you sign on for their services on an ongoing basis. A typical price range for career counseling services (nationally) could be $75-$150 per session. Remember to always ask if the career counselor offers a complimentary introductory session. You want to make sure the relationship will be the right personality and counseling style fit to help launch your confidence and upcoming career changes.

How much does it cost to hire a career coach?

When it’s time to take your career to the next level, it’s time to hire a career coach. The cost to have a career coach help you with your professional journey will vary based on how many sessions you require, the level of coaching you desire, and the rates of the coach as determined by their experience, expertise, education and training. On average, career coaching sessions can range from 60 to 120 minutes, depending on the professional and what your needs are. Career coaches in smaller towns and areas with a lower cost of living will also typically have lower rates than those residing in large metro areas like New York, although most do offer remote coaching. Many coaches also offer a free introductory consultation, which gives you the opportunity to determine if their personality and coaching style are the right fit. It’s helpful to ask the coach about their relevant experience and get references from former clients. Depending on the professional, session rates could range anywhere from under $60 to well over $250 per session. Package discounts are a good way to commit to the relationship as well as get savings on services.

What is a career counselor?

If you’re feeling lost in your career path, overwhelmed, in need of a job but confused as where to start, or ready for change but uncertain what you want, a career counselor is a good choice for you. A career counselor is typically a licensed professional who has earned a master’s degree in counseling — likely with an emphasis on career counseling. Each state has different licensing requirements for career counselors, so be sure to research before reaching out to a pro.

Due to their academic backgrounds, career counselors often have a more holistic and in-depth approach than a career coach. Career coaches are not regulated by states and also tend to be more business-focused — a good fit for those who know what they want but need help achieving it. On the other hand, a career counselor provides guidance and clarity around some of the more emotional aspects that job hunting and career movement entail. Career counselors meet with you in a series of one-on-one sessions. They assess your personality and learn what drives you. They get a detailed understanding of your work history and your hopes, and often work to help you discover any internal blocks preventing you from going where you want to go. Hiring a career counselor is appropriate at any time in your career, from recent graduate to executive-level management.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
