Hyson catered my 30-person wedding! With the help of 3 other amazing assistants, he created unique and delicious appetizers, our wedding meal, as well as a late-night snack. He was great at communicating, showed up on time, and dressed professionally for both our tasting and the wedding. Overall, he was the perfect chef/vendor for our event and I would not hesitate to contact him again :)

If you are looking for eclectic, healthy and fabulous food for your smallish event, look no further than Chef Hyson! His pricing is very reasonable, he has interesting ideas and is very dependable. I contacted him (found thru Thumbtack) to cater my post-wedding dinner of 30 people at my mom's home in Pebble Beach. He was much more than just a caterer, he was a personal chef! I wanted my guests to have choices and cuisine for all-types of palates. Just with that mention, his initial menu options were so varied, he had it all covered! If I wanted something added or substituted, he did it. He worked with me on what rentals I would need for the patio, and made sure we had thought of every detail. He came and did his set up the day before - he brings most of the equipment he needs, even a grill - and was at the house in well enough time to get everything ready. He was professional, and had friendly and excellent prep/sous-chef/assistants too! Did I say the food was phenomenal? I had so many compliments on his cuisine, that it made me feel accomplished. But I must give credit where credit is due: I could not have pulled off our fabulous wedding patio dinner without him. Kudos, Chef Hyson! We will meet again!

Chef Hyson Epstein was a serendipitous find! I needed a caterer for a party in Carmel and I really did not want the usual Carmel fare (Italian, American). I exchanged a few emails with Hyson and the kind of food he enjoys making was perfect - fusion, flavorful, good amount of spices and herbs. And oh by the way vegetarian. No one missed the meat at our dinner even though most of our guests were omnivores. His award-winning vegetarian chili was a huge hit, as expected. Not as expected was how popular his vegetarian patties were! Kind of like a bean and vegetable burger without the bun. This was something I had suggested but Hyson hadn't made before. He did an amazing job combining a couple of recipes to present a dish that was fantastic! He did everything - the shopping, the rentals (plates etc.), the cooking, the clean up. It was a fabulous evening and everyone was impressed!

Chef Hyson catered our wedding last year (over 100 guests) in June. He did a phenomenal job. The food was amazing, our guests still mention it. It was not your typical bland boring wedding buffet food. Everything was fresh and flavorful. We would love to hire him to cook the same meal for us on our Anniversary! There are so many great things I could say about our experience with Chef Hyson and it would go on for pages. I will keep it simple and just say that you'd be crazy not to hire him. Also just want to add that the only negative review I see here is by Donna C who also had prime rib served at her wedding. I assume the prime rib was pre cut. We chose to have someone cut and serve the prime rib for each guest as they went through the buffet line. The prime rib was amazing!

What types of customers have you worked with?
My favorite types of jobs are healthy retreat cooking or small intimate dinner parties But I have worked with a wide range of clients numbering from 5 - 350. I have had the pleasure of cooking personally for a number of celebrities such as Kid Cudi, Alanis Morissette, John Cleese and Pink Floyds Drummer Nick Mason. But all my clients are treated as celebrities and no one has been left anything less than amazed and fully satisfied.
Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?
I cooked breakfast lunch and dinner for 40 men on a weekend retreat. They were all meat and potatoes type of guys but were all won over by how good and fresh the food tasted. Even though there were more vegetables than they were used to, nobody missed having a little less heavy meat.
