I found JL flooring on thumb tack. joe came and met my husband and I and we really liked him a lot. He showed so much professionalism. We were looking to refinish our existing hardwoods. Joe explained that our old floors were dead and there was nothing left to refinish. (I had met with another floor contractor and he had said the same thing). the only answer to our floors was to install new ones and Hoe assured us he would do fantastic job. Talked about stain we wanted, wide plank bleeds throughout, and putting 1 wide Plank on the stairs. He also showed we a sample. he assured us we would have everything we wanted ! When the job started we were shocked as he showed up with the wood flooring to be installed. It was all different prestained colors. I was so upset as floors were espresso, white wash, grey and medium brown tones! It was horrible and knowing nothing about floors we were super upset that he failed to mention this small detail. He had his crew sand down the floors to the bare original oak. A step that I was not aware we would need (I assumed some sanding but not a total refinish of random colored boards) . Staining was also an issue as the colors he offered were not what I had discussed and showed joe pictures of when we met. He then said to customize colors I would need to wait until he returned from being out of town. It was 5 days and our project had been delayed due to needing to level the floor. I know what to expect from contractors and I know they can’t always do everything but he said all the right things to get the job and then made excuses. When it came time to do the 2 stairs (picture 2) He knew I wanted them to be 1 single wide plank. He tried to tell me the steps were too wide for this. When originally when he made the sales call it was not an issue. I caved and allowed him to move forward without the wide plank on the stairs. Then it was time to seal the floors. I specify said matte finish. Not shiny. Matte. And well our floors are shiny. He told me they are not shiny so not sure if our eyes work the same way... After all of this he made me feel like I was difficult for just trying to get what he said he could provide. I ended up with medium brown floors that are shiny. Our friends think the floors look great! But so much grief and unnecessary stress.
