Elise M. says, "Cara is a wonderful piano teacher! I hired her to teach my 5 yr old son piano lessons. She was very prompt in responding to my calls and text messages. Since my son is still very young, Cara was able to make the lessons fun and age appropriate! She is very good at cheering my son and getting him to follow instructions in a very easy way. Cara also provides great recommendations and suggestions on how to practice at home. My son had warmed up to her quickly and we feel so comfortable having her around. Cara gave us a quick sample on how she plays the piano and she played beautifully! Makes me want to enroll myself! Haha! Also we have a digital piano and she was able to adjust playing it quickly. She is always on time and she actually takes additional time to make sure my son and I understands the process and expectations. Definitely so much worth it hiring her! I highly recommend Cara!"See more

🔥 Piano Lessons with Juilliard-Trained Concert Pianist — Fort Lee, NJ I am a Juilliard-trained concert pianist and full-time teaching artist, offering private piano instruction at my studio in Fort Lee, NJ. With years of teaching experience, including undergraduate instruction at Northwestern University, I offer highly individualized lessons that focus on developing strong technique, musical understanding, and artistic expression. Every lesson is customized to meet each student’s unique needs — whether they are beginners or advanced students preparing for auditions or long-term study. Unlike many teachers who focus solely on exam preparation or repetitive practice, my teaching is based on the same principles and training used at top music conservatories. Students not only build a solid technical foundation but also learn how to think musically, listen critically, and develop true artistry. Education: • Northwestern University, Doctor of Musical Arts (DMA) • The Juilliard School, Master of Music (MM) • The Juilliard School, Bachelor of Music (BM) Tuition: • $130/hour (lessons held at my Fort Lee studio) • If travel to the student’s location is preferred, an additional travel fee will apply. I am currently accepting a limited number of motivated students who are serious about their musical growth. Beginners and advanced students are both welcome. For inquiries and availability, please contact me directly.See more

Singing Lessons

Thomas C. says, "I had no prior singing experience before meeting David. I couldn't even remotely find the pitch or key that was being played in a song with my voice when trying to match it. After two months of one on ones for an hour every week, I've seen massive gains and improvements. Not just in my confidence, but in my ability to match pitch, widen my range and become a more flexible singer overall. A big part of success is practicing on your own after the lessons, however, David really does do a great job of zoning in on your weaknesses and helping you through them step by step. I highly recommend him for any singing lessons you're interested in pursuing. I know I'll continue to go to him for all of my vocal needs. Keep up the great work David! -T"See more

FAQs

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much are singing lessons?

Singing lessons cost $50 per hour, on average. Hourly rates can range anywhere from $40-$80. However, some vocal instructors may charge flat rates or offer packages. They may also offer 30-minute lessons for a lower price. Or, they might require monthly tuition for ongoing classes. It depends on the voice coach.

Contact vocal instructors near you to get a sense of how much singing lessons cost in your area.

What are singing lessons like?

Every voice coach may have a different style of teaching, but here are a few things you'll likely experience during a singing lesson:

  • Explaining to the instructor what you want to improve on.
  • Going through a few breathing and riff exercises.
  • Receiving constructive feedback and criticism from the instructor.

Before your first voice lesson, you can ask your instructor what you should expect and how to prepare.

How many singing lessons do I need?

It depends on what you’re hoping to accomplish with your singing lessons. Consult a highly rated vocal instructor to determine how many lessons you should take — and how often you should take them.

Do singing lessons actually work?

Yes, many students who’ve taken singing lessons say that their singing has gotten better. To find out if voice coaches near you have successfully taught others how to sing, read their customer reviews on Thumbtack.

What is a good age to start vocal lessons?

Whether you’re a novice or experienced singer, it’s never too late to start taking vocal lessons.

If you’re thinking about signing up your child for voice lessons, keep in mind that some instructors recommend waiting until their voice settles after puberty. Talk to voice coaches near you to find out if now's the time for you (or your child) to start taking lessons.

Where can you get singing lessons?

You can receive singing lessons from a vocal instructor or voice coach on Thumbtack. Some instructors offer virtual lessons, while others may require you to come into a studio for instruction.

How can I find a good voice teacher?

Use Thumbtack to find a good, top-rated voice teacher near you. With Thumbtack, you can view the teachers’ profiles, read their client testimonials and check their ratings. To ensure you hire the best instructor, ask them questions about their credentials and success with other students.
