Cliff C. says, "I needed someone to take a look at my roof following the recent storm which caused a couple of my windows to leak. From the start of the process, the administrative staff at Harlan were very prompt with their communication. I would receive a call if my appointment could be bumped ahead, and they would send a confirmation email with the new appointment date once I have confirmed the change. Their technician showed up on time on the date that my appointment was scheduled. Not only was he very professional, but he took the time to answer the questions I had and pointed out a few items I should be aware of in regards to my roof. Thankfully, nothing was wrong with my roof. Harlan carried out the inspection free-of-charge. Not wanting them to have nothing to show for their visit, I asked if they can re-caulk my gable vent instead to prevent water ingress during the next rain. This was done promptly and they even gave me a discount, too! Overall, I am beyond satisfied with my experience working with Harlan Roofing. They are a professional team with an extraordinary quality of customer service!"See more

Julianna V. says, "Outstanding Experience with Gladiator Home Solutions I cannot speak highly enough of Jeremy and his crew at Gladiator Home Solutions. From start to finish, my experience with them was exceptional. Throughout the entire project, I was consistently met with professionalism, excellent responsiveness, and thoughtful answers to all my questions. Their collaborative approach and the high quality of their workmanship truly stood out. They consistently did what they promised, communicated effectively, and offered valuable recommendations and options, all while meeting an extremely tight deadline. What particularly impressed me was their meticulous attention to detail, even in the small things. At the end of each day, my home and yard were thoroughly cleaned, and all equipment and supplies were tidied away. This level of care, though seemingly minor, truly reflected the overall dedication and thoroughness they bring to every aspect of their work. When seeking quotes, I considered various vendors, from larger, more established companies to independent individuals and smaller local businesses. Jeremy was approachable and consistent, professional and friendly. I had never taken on a job like this on my own and had struggled with other companies and contractors to capture the detail of the work we’d discussed in person. That wasn’t the case with Gladiator Home Solutions. Jeremy wrote down each detail, reviewed them with me, made adjustments in front of me to ensure he captured what we discussed and I couldn’t be happier with my decision to go with them. The comprehensive project included: * Roof and gutter replacement * Gutter guard installation * Dry rot removal and repair * Weather sealing all trims and doors * Stucco repair and re-stuccoing my house (which corrected poorly done work from a previous company) * New window trims and finishing touches Thankfully and grateful for the exceptional work and team, Julianna V - Sacramento, CA"See more

Stanley Fong says, "(See Update Below) In March 2022, Two Rivers Roofing, Inc. did a complete roofing job. I had a couple of issues after completion but it took many calls to get them back to repair the poor workmanship. The many follow up calls were beyond what would be considered a reasonable reminder.Fast forward today, in January 2024, I noticed they did not replace all the roof vents per the contract and noticed they did not align some of the attic vent holes with the roof plywood. The ceiling was recently demolished and that is how I discovered their poor workmanship. The attic vents do not line up to the holes in the plywood. There is about 30 to 40% blockage of air flow. Also, they were caught not replacing all the roof vents per the contract. It eventually got replaced. Again, I had many calls to get their attention and they are ignoring their so call "reputable roofing company."I find it disturbing that one can only judge and evaluate the job on what is visible and find out that they are taking short cuts on areas of the roof where one cannot see. An honest roofer would never do a thing like that. I am in the process of filing a complaint with the State License Board and the Better Business Bureau to have them come out to repair their work.UPDATE: I spoke to several leadership team members and the matter has been resolved!! I may be a little quick on the trigger after the leadership team members explained their operations and one member was out of the country. That was the reason why I never got a response and another time a team member was on a school science field trip and had no access to the internet."See more

FAQs

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

Is it worth it to hire a roofer?

There are several reasons why it’s worth it to hire a professional roofer instead of attempting it yourself. The first is safety. Roofing is inherently dangerous, as a fall from a roof could seriously injure or kill you. Roofers have specialized equipment and training to help prevent accidents.

Next is experience. Roofers know how to spot problems (leaks, missing shingles, moss or mold growth, etc.)  in your roof that could potentially save you from costly repairs down the road.

And finally, roofers save you time by getting the job done quickly and with a high degree of quality.

When should I get my roof inspected?

Experts typically recommend that you have your roof professionally inspected at least once a year. But you also may want a licensed professional to inspect your roof during these circumstances:

  • You're buying or selling a home
  • You're filing an insurance claim
  • Before or after a contractor does major work on your roof

Search the Thumbtack site for experienced roof inspectors near you. You can contact them directly to set up a time to conduct the inspection, and learn more about their pricing structure and services.

What happens during a roofing inspection?

Roof inspectors are trained to look for signs of a failing roofing system that could lead to damage — especially water and structural damage. Your home's roofing materials may look great from the ground, but it's difficult to see potential damage unless you take a closer look. A roof inspector can do just that.

During an inspection, the professional will typically look for issues that may have occurred during installation and manufacturing. They’ll also keep an eye out for damage caused by normal wear and tear, as well as extreme weather events. They might also access your attic to see if there are signs of a leak in your roof.

Here’s a short list of common things a contractor will look out for during a roof inspection:

  • Damage caused by hail, wind, snow and rain
  • Missing, broken, buckling, curling or cracked shingles
  • Roof decay, rot, moss, mildew and mold
  • Rust around the flashing
  • Damaged chimneys and vents
  • Holes, gaps and punctures that could cause a roof leak
  • Water stains and ventilation issues

Hiring a roofing inspector prevents you from having to do the dangerous work of climbing onto your roof. Plus, inspectors know how to assess potential damage and determine the best way to repair your roof and prevent the need for more expensive repairs in the future.
