John was quick to respond with a quote and worked with me on a great deal for my two trees that needed trimming. He was able to schedule something a few days later which was great. He did a good job and cleaned up after. The only thing is that they used my green waste bucket for the small pieces when I needed that space for other yard work I was doing so I had to wait on that. Other than that, it was a great experience and I'd hire him again for any tree services needed.

I hired Mark to remove a large tree stump in my front yard. I also asked him to remove the many tree roots that had come to surface. Mark is professional and above all gave me a great price to remove everything! I highly recommend Mark!

Juan removed three large palm trees. He came by and provided a quote the same afternoon I posted on thumbtack. The price was fair and he agreed to do the work on a Friday afternoon. Showed up a little earlier than expected (which was fine) and got the work done efficiently and without any collateral damage. I was very pleased with Juan and his crew's professionalism and focus on getting the job done. They cleaned up and hauled away all the debris. I was happy to have the trees gone and didn't even have to do any more clean up after they left. Great job and I'd recommend Juan and Environmental Tree Service to anyone.

Contacted De La Cruz Tree Services in mid-August. They came right out and gave me a quote. During the consult he provided a written quote and all of their business license info and insurance! I waited and received a few other comparable quotes, but appreciated the professionalism. I had to reschedule twice and they were very accommodating. Came out to perform the services and only took about an hour. Will definitely recommend to others!!

Dave helped me when I had a multi trunk oak fall on my house. He and his crew minimized any further damage to the house and got the tree trunks off the roof. He chipped the brush and stacked the wood like he said, in addition to answering all my texts and calls. I really appreciate Dave's business and plan to use his tree services on other jobs.

Outstanding customer service from the exceptionally reasonable initial estimate to the final care and clean-up. Kimo came out said the job was actually very easy (the removal of a single 20' tree), and cut the initial on-line estimate in half. Two days later, my tree was gone, and the clean-up so excellent there wasn't a fleck of sawdust left. Not to mention that the job was done for what I consider pocket change compared to the other estimates I got. I will recommend Wright Landscape and Design to anyone I know who needs future landscaping work done. Nice job!

Quality Tree Care did a great job trimming a huge tree on short notice for me and gave me a great deal too. They even went above and beyond to trim another tree that wasn't even part of the estimate to help and their cleanup was way better than I could have asked for. I couldn't be happier with the work, thanks

So pleased with his work! Not only did he clean the gutters (which were badly clogged), but while he was on the roof he trimmed the tree that was blocking my solar panel. Fast response! Super service! Reasonable price! Highly recommend. Will definitely be using him again.

Don's Tree Service was a company that went above and beyond the expected. Punctual, respectful workmen. Cleaned up not just under the tree they trimmed, but all around our yard up to the gate. We had gardeners that did not want to clean up these areas. Even took out a dead palm that was not part of the bid. We are using them again for some other areas of the yard. Great company.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost to remove a tree stump?

Once you have a tree cut down, you’ll probably want to remove the tree stump as well. You may want the stump removed for aesthetics, the tree stump could be diseased, you might want to prevent regrowth, or you may find the roots are causing problems and need to be removed. Tree removal costs don’t always include the cost to grind out or dig out a tree stump after the tree has been felled and the trunk removed. The national average cost for stump removal ranges from $150 to $200. There are two main methods for dealing with tree stumps. In grinding, pros use a chipping machine to grind away the above-level tree stump until it sits just below the soil surface. Tree stump removal entails lifting the entire root ball of a tree out of the soil. Removing the stump will leave a hole in the ground and also take more time, labor and money than stump grinding. Here are some examples of average tree stump removal costs:

  • Stump grinding: $2-$4 per inch.
  • Tree stump removal: average of $60-$350.

The final price will depend on the stump’s size, condition, location and condition of the soil around it.

How much does it cost to trim a tree?

The national price range for tree trimming is $270-$450. Tree trimming is often done by a professional arborist who is trained to safely trim and prune trees for both the health of the tree and the safety of the residents and their property. Trying to do your own tree trimming is not advisable unless you have the proper know-how. Tree trimming companies may charge an hourly rate for their services. The hourly rate may be higher or lower for different trees to reflect the relative safety measures, skill, equipment or people power needed to handle the job. For this reason, most tree services provide free estimates.

One example of an hourly rate for professional tree trimming services is $150 per hour. Costs may be under $100 or could be higher than $300 per hour, depending on variables such as proximity to buildings, health of the tree, height and diameter of the tree, and type of tree trimming desired. Geography and regional cost of living and regional costs to do business will also play a role in your tree removal costs.

How much does it cost to cut a tree down?

When you’re ready to have a tree on your property come down, it’s time to call an arborist. The national average price range for tree-trimming costs is $270-$450. Tree removal costs can vary based on the height, diameter, location and health of the tree, and on whether you want to remove the stump. Height plays a major role in tree removal costs. Small trees, no more than 30 feet tall, are usually thinner in diameter and easier and safer for an arborist to manage. Removal of a small tree can cost anywhere from under $150 to over $450. Removal of medium-height trees, from 30 feet to 60 feet tall, could cost anywhere between $150 and $850 or more. Tall trees, typically 60 feet to 80 feet tall, may start at $500 or cost more than $1,000 to cut down. As the height and diameter increase, so does the cost.

Location is critical, too. Removing a tree in an open space is quicker and presents fewer obstacles than removing a tree that is growing flush to your house. Arborists can assess your tree and provide you with quotes based on the variables involved. For example, removing a medium-size hackberry tree that was growing too close to a home — the roots were damaging the home’s foundation — cost $1,500. This price included rope-down, house protection, tree quartering and stacking, and stump removal.

How much does it cost to remove a fallen tree?

If you need to have a tree cut down, have you planned what will happen next? Arborists often charge an additional fee to quarter and remove the fallen tree from your property, so anticipate this as part of your tree removal costs. You can elect to have the wood cut for use in your fireplace, or you may prefer to have it hauled away completely.

Tree removal costs may vary based on the height and the width of the felled tree. Size affects the labor required for removal, which will be reflected in the cost. For example, a tree service company may charge an additional $100-$120 to haul away the pieces of a felled tree. The service may cost as little as $75 in some regions and more than $150 in others. Regional labor rates, the cost of living and the cost to do business in your area will be reflected in your tree removal cost.

How much does it cost to cut down a massive tree?

If you have to remove a big, beautiful tree from your property, you’ll definitely need an arborist. Cutting down a massive tree without the proper tools or training can lead to major property damage or injury. A huge tree may need to be removed if it is diseased or dying and poses a safety risk, has suffered a blow from a storm and isn’t safe, or is growing into your home, your home’s foundation, your septic system, or your power lines. Removal costs for such large trees will depend on the tree’s height, diameter, and relative safety and accessibility, as well as whether you also need the felled tree and stump removed. The bare minimum for removal of a tree over 75 or 80 feet would be $1,000. This may not include tree quartering and removal or stump grinding. Stump grinding ranges on average from $2 to $4 per inch of the stump’s diameter. There is no set price as each situation is unique, so it’s always best to have an arborist give you a quote and detail exactly which services are included in the price.
