Pete quickly assessed where our slightly out of control dog was and our methods or dealing with her behaviors..His suggestions were helpful and his manner was very positive. We look forward to working with Pete towards the goal of a more controlled dog with whom we can walk on the trails close to our home ..

Marina has become an extension of our family, taking in our shy dog Ralphie and helping him feel comfortable and calm in her house. She takes Ralphie on playful walks, makes sure he is taken care of (treats?!), and is a gem to communicate with. We're so grateful to have connected on Thumbtack!

Kevin impressed us with his willingness to work around our schedules and to patiently manage our young rescue dog. Our dog reacted to him better than others we interviewed so, in a sense, she chose Kevin. His rates are very competitive too. We hope this is the beginning of a long and successful relationship!

Erika is absolutely amazing with my senior golden retriever. Hope loves Erika because she is loving, cautious and very observant of my dog's needs. I am very picky about who I allow to walk my dog due to her health concerns. Erika takes her time and makes sure that all of Hope's needs are taking care of including change of water, and cleaning up any of Hope's "you know what" on our patio. I cannot recommend this young lady enough. Her gracious and calm personality make her highly valuable. She is absolutely dependable and listens to all of the directives I gave her about Hope. Hire her, and do not let her get away, you will not be sorry.

I had a meet & greet with Sonia yesterday; she brought her "pack" of dogs to meet my dog, who is sometimes aggressive toward other dogs. Sonia really seems to know her stuff, and gave me great advice on dealing with my dog!! And he behaved pretty well around all her dogs, thanks to her coaching! I was impressed!

Gail has been walking our dog Val for about 6-7 months now and she is fantastic! I can't say enough about Gail's attentiveness, reliability, and great communication. We have had previous dog walkers an Gail is by far the best. She frequently sends pictures or videos of the day's walk, which is really thoughtful. She is also very flexible and works with us and our schedule. We originally had Gail come a few days a week, but we are so happy she now comes Monday through Friday. It's clear she really cares about the dogs she works with and wants to make sure they're happy. If you're looking for a reliable, trustworthy, and thoughtful dog walker, contact Gail!

YeePaw! has really made our transition to a new city a delight for my fur babies. Eliot, the owner, established a wonderful bond with our bulldog, Daisy, in a few short weeks. He also helped to care for our 16.5 year old Jack Russell while she was under hospice. Eliot has an uncanny ability to read and respond to animal behavior. He has taught Daisy how to play and relate to other dogs. I've hired several dog walkers/sitters over the last 15 years, and YeePaw! is undoubtedly the best pet care available in the Bay Area. I highly recommend anyone with dogs use YeePaw! for all of their pet care needs.

Pam took excellent care of our 3 dogs: she walked, fed, brushed them and administered eye drops to one of them. She also demonstrated initiative in the house and kept in touch with me the whole time. I highly recommend her as a dog sitter and will definitely use her services again in the future. She is a trustworthy person, her prices are reasonable and I am glad I found her on Thumbtack!

Karin walks my dog Bodie every day, rain or shine. Karin is nice, responsible, clearly crazy about the dogs, and great about letting me know her plan for the day. I get regular photos of Bodie having a great time, and he's always wiped out when he gets home. A tired dog is a happy dog!

Kaellyn's service as a dog walker was/is incredible. She was extremely thorough in initial communication, and is also very knowledgeable about her profession. Our dog was having some behavioral issues so in addition to walking her, Kaellyn also worked with her to correct some of those issues, which was awesome. Kaellyn is extremely professional and reliable, which is why we continue to work with her!

She is experienced in giving medications, when necessary and our girls love her. I never worry about a thing when we travel. We've been gone as long as two weeks, and Gina is professional in every way. I highly recommend Gina for pet-sitting, dog walking, or any job related to your precious pets.

Melissa is the only person I trust with my pet sitting needs. She is professional yet caring and compassionate. She has been able to be flexible and works around my crazy travel schedule without a complaint. The best part is that my dog loves when Melissa is walking him or pet sitting.... it's like having his favorite aunt coming to visit him!

Craig is amazing he connects with my dogs. Yes he takes them out for exercise, but he also learns about each individual dog and understands their needs. I’ve been a client for over 12 years and had foster dogs as well as my own from puppy to senior. He’s worked with and built relationships and trust with my fear aggressive female or does not trust humans except kids, and doesn’t care for all dogs. In essence, it’s important to understand her, so that you can catch cues when she’s overwhelmed or needs a timeout. I also have a fear retreat male that Craig has built a relationship with so that my dog trusts him. I also have a puppy that is clingy and can become over stimulated that Craig has taken the time to work with. I also had two beagles that Craig was amazing with. Currently, I have 2 ridgebacks and a beagle that go out daily with Craig. Craig has also taken out my foster dogs on occasion. When my dogs come home, they are exhausted. Craig is also flexible when I need to cancel or have an emergency he’s available and understanding. He’s done overnights with my dogs and I can leave on vacation and not worry about them. Even when I had surgery, Craig came and got the dogs to ensure they were exercised and exhausted so that when I got home I could rest. He has keys to my home and trust him. The one thing that sticks with me, is Craig’s compassion- it was Sunday and he has a big family of his own, but I was having a home euthanasia, I called Craig and he came and got my other 3 dogs and took them for 5 hours so that I could spend the last hours alone with my senior. Craig would have kept my other 3 longer, but I needed them home as the euthanasia was hard on me. Craig is part of our family, and he cares about my dogs and when there are certain requests he obliges whether it’s making sure my senior boy doesn’t jump down. Or when one of my dogs was on limited activity and crate rest, Craig would make sure to take him potty in my yard on a leash before or after he took the other 2.

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What does a dog walker do?

We all know our dogs love going on long, adventure-filled walks, but jobs and family and commuting can make it difficult to give them the leash time they deserve. You can hire a professional dog walker to make sure your furry friend gets adequate exercise and outdoor time each day. A professional dog walker may be an individual contractor or work for a dedicated dog-walking company. In either case, you want to make sure the pro has the appropriate insurance in case of an emergency. Some people opt to give the dog walker a key to their house; others to have them pick up the dog from the yard. Dog walking can happen as often as multiple times per day, or just a few times a month as needed. Here are some questions to ask when you are interviewing a new dog walker:

    • Will you or someone else be walking my dog?
    • Do you have a backup plan if you can’t make it for a scheduled walk?
    • Will you walk my dog by itself, or do you walk several dogs at once?
    • What are your different walk routes?
    • When will you pick up and drop off?
    • How will we communicate?
    • Do I have to commit to a schedule or are you flexible?
    • What’s your cancellation policy?
    • What’s your response plan if my dog gets injured or becomes sick?
    • How and how often do I pay you?
    • Do you offer package pricing if I buy multiple dog walks up front?

How much do dog walkers charge?

The cost of dog walking depends on several factors including length and frequency of dog walks, the number of dogs on the walk, distance to your house, and any additional services you request. The national average cost range for a dog walk is $10-$20, but that price will vary based on where you live in the country and the regional cost of living and doing business.

The longer the dog walk, the higher your costs will be. Dog walkers offer a range of walk lengths, from 15-minute potty breaks to long hikes of 120 minutes or more. For example, a dog walker may charge $15 for a 15-minute walk and $35 for a 35-minute walk. Requesting that your dog be the only animal on the walk will typically mean a higher cost than if you permit your dog to be walked in a pack of dogs. You may be able to get a discounted rate if you have more than one dog to be walked. For example, a professional dog walker may charge $28 for one dog or $33 for two dogs on a 60-minute walk. If you need additional help — like feeding the dogs or giving them medication — dog walkers may be able to provide this service at an additional fee. Dog walkers may charge higher rates for walking your dogs on holidays.
