Harp and his team communicated well and got the job done (painting). They also proactively identified some additional areas that needed work and took care of those as well.

Ricardo was super professional, great at responding, and did a really amazing job painting our two accent walls. We also had a blocked sink when he came and he took care of that too. He had all the tools and even gave us some suggestions to help save us money. I would totally hire him again!

Keith was amazing - great quality of work, timely, professional and pricing. We had a quick and short deadline in scheduling and completing work. Keith responded very promptly from estimate to full completion of job. He finished prior to the deadline and we even added more to the scope of work. We will absolutely recommend and use Elemeno Painting for painting projects! Thank you Keith!!

We were really pleased with the work Matt did. We had a handful of projects that he completed for us: -Painting and installing trim and a dowel in our laundry -Adding reinforcements, a bike hook and shelving to a storage unit -Hanging floating kitchen shelves He has a great attention to detail when it comes to things like tight seams, clean edges and making things level. He was also on time, friendly, polite and cleaned up after himself. I will note that while we did pay the amount he initially quoted us, it worked out to more than his listed rate of $50/hr, but still seemed reasonable for the job. We'd be happy to use Matt again for future projects!

Vyron With his crew-Marco and Pablo did their jobs well. Painting the window trims and baseboards, doors, garage as well as caulking were time consuming but they paid attention to detail. We had wanted to change the roman tub faucet trim but it was unreachable from the access door. In the end, we had to create another acccess door, modify the plumbing. The results were great and we have a beautiful chrome Faucet in place.

Ever responded to my post for a time sensitive painting job very quickly, allowing me to give an overview of the work we needed done and get an idea of the cost right away. After a job walk that same night, we firmed up the quote and work was complete 2 days later! We live in an older flat, and the ceiling and walls needs a few crack repairs, which were done very well, smoothing out the lines and unevenness where it was needed most. The paint was done in 2 coats, which looks great. Also, we had done (and said we'd do) most of the wall hanging removal and decluttering of walls, but Ever and his crew were able to scoot away the big stuff and cover up furniture and surfaces, then put everything back / clean up well after the job was complete. Ever pretty much saved the day by coming through so quickly and doing such a great job. In terms of the price, we paid pretty much exactly what I'd expected for the job. I maybe could have gotten it done for a tiny bit less if I'd consulted with multiple contractors or haggled on price, but we had lost a couple of weeks going back and forth with a flaky contractor, and with Ever's help we are back on track with our design deadlines and beating the clock before we host relatives in our home for the holidays. It was all worth it and a quality job. Big thanks to Ever Molina painting!

This was my first foray into interior painting, and Mauricio was very patient, conscientious and thorough. He walked me through the process so I understood what he'd be doing every day, and provided a very accurate timing guideline. He asked questions that left me feeling confident he understood the job. There was a lot of coordinating since he was painting a space that was already lived in, and he was very careful and clean with all of my belongings. Awesome. Highly recommend. He's my go-to painter now.

Eduardo has helped me with many projects, including painting and restoration for over 3 years now. He is competent, hard working, and always pleasant. I think it's because he genuinely enjoys and takes pride in his workman. He's honest when he doesn't know how to do something but will advise on necessary repairs if he sees a problem. Recently he found sitting water in my gutters when he was cleaning it. My gutters are on the second story (so I would never have seen it), but he recommended that I find a professional gutter service for installation of more down spouts to address the problem of sitting water. I like that he knows his skills and is honest about what he is best equipped to do. Eduardo has helped me with projects both large and small, from hauling to small electrical repairs, from landscaping to painting... He always charges a fair price and makes time for last minute projects by squeezing them in after work hours or on the weekends. I trust him and highly recommend him.

Richard helped me design and remodel some features of my home before selling. Richard has a great eye for design and is able to construct as well. Richard and his team poured a new (black) concrete driveway, built me a new lateral cedar stained fence and painted the exterior of my home navy blue. This lead to a quick sale above asking, Thanks!

This was a small job, terminating a special roof mounted-fan. I gave Rafael my requirements for a switch and a thermostat cut-off, and after some discussion about the difficulties of running in-wall wiring behind the wooden panel wall, suggested a way to the wires which was code compliant and far less obtrusive after painting than I first feared. He shopped around at several supply stores to find just the right parts for the project. He and his assistant did a great job as you can see from the pictures! He was also very prompt.

I am extremely satisfied with Diego and his company. I hired him to paint 4 bedrooms and a hallway. At the last minute, I added a bathroom as well. He was able to get all the work done in 3 days - which included all the prep work, moving furniture, etc. The end result is fantastic, would use him again for any painting projects I'd have.

Andrew was thorough and prompt. He recommended and installed ceiling speakers; fixed a bunch of patch holes that a previous contractor neglected to patch; recommended and acquired paints and materials. When a job was out of his comfortable skill set he let us know. As an aside, he looks a little older then his profile picture, which was a little offsetting at first. That said with age comes experience, and he has a wealth of skills and the right attitude. I would definitely recommend working with him again, and will be running future projects by him as well.

Mike of Lamorinda Painting delivered excellent customer service. He did a beautiful job painting our house in Martinez within the committed timeframe. He replaced the dry rot trim boards, filled the cracks and gaps and prepared the exterior surface to ensure proper adhesion of paint. Mike worked well with our tenants living in the house; they said he was very courteous. A couple of the homeowners in the neighborhood stopped by and commented on the beautiful paint job. Based on our positive experience with Mike, we would not hesitate to hire Lamorinda Painting for any future painting.

Kyle did a great job. His bid was competitive and the quality and detail of his patching and repair as well as his painting was outstanding. There were several setbacks due to other contractors works and Kyle helped re-patch work he had already completed. I highly recommend KDF Painting.

Although we are only half-way through our interior painting project, Juan and his crew have been on time, quiet, neat, tidy, and positive each day. Details are handled with care. It's easy to predict that Juan and his crew will complete the job within the estimated time frame. As satisfied clients, we are already considering other paint and handyman jobs for Juan.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much do painters cost?

The national average cost for an interior painter ranges between $450 and $900. Interior painters can tackle everything from complete color makeovers in each of your rooms to touching up an accent wall to painting pieces of furniture. The square footage and complexity of the project, along with the materials needed, are the main factors that will affect cost. Other factors include whether you supply the paint yourself or want the painter to do so, whether you move the furniture and do the prep work or ask them to do it, and whether any repair work is needed on the walls. Painting the ceiling and the trim will also have an effect on cost. The type of paint you choose can also raise or lower your house painting cost. A gallon of paint may range from $20 to over $100, depending on quality and brand. Ask your painter if they charge per hour or per square foot, and how much you can save by doing prep work (moving furniture, etc.) yourself.

How much does it cost to paint the interior of a house?

Interior house painting costs are calculated on a few key factors. Nationally, interior house painting projects range from $200 to $2,500. The wide price range indicates how much square footage, paint selection and labor can affect cost. One pro uses a laser to measure each room, subtracting the size of the doors and windows, and then bases the quote on the square footage of the actual surfaces to be painted. Painters may provide you with savings if you opt to paint your entire home rather than just having one room or an accent wall painted. For example, the average house painting cost for an 8x12 room with 8-foot ceilings is roughly $200, when contractor-grade paint is used. Painting ceilings, baseboards and frames can also affect cost. Pros may charge per linear foot to smooth and paint baseboards. In one area pros might charge 50 cents per linear foot to paint baseboards, while pros in another part of the country could charge $1.50 per linear foot for the same task. Painters may charge flat rates for painting door and window frames, with one charging $20-$25 and another $60 per door. Geography and regional costs to do business play a major role in the cost of interior painting. The same painter in a rural region has less to pay in taxes, transportation, insurance and overhead than they would in a major city like New York.

How much does a painter charge per room?

The cost to paint a room will vary based on the size of the room, the type of paint you select, any ceiling or trim work needed, and any repairs needed. If no repairs or other additional work is needed, painting a room with contractor-grade paint could range from $1 to $2 per square foot, including materials. Selecting a luxury paint (some cost more than $100 per gallon) will certainly increase your house painting costs. Here are some additional examples of average house painting costs, per room:

  • 12x12 room with a 9-foot ceiling: about $125
  • 12x12 room with an 8-foot ceiling: about $100
  • 14x16 master bedroom with a 9-foot ceiling: about $150
  • 14x16 master bedroom with an 8-foot ceiling: about $125
  • 16x16 living room with a 9-foot ceiling: about $175
  • 16x16 living room with a 20-foot ceiling: starting at $225
