My dog Tristan, a standard poodle, is getting elderly and has arthritis with very bad weakness in his back legs so it has gotten to the point that taking him to a groomer is too hard on him and more dangerous of him getting hurt. I am so thankful I found Desiree who does in-home groom visits where Tristan can be comfortable, not have to stand so long and can now even lay down in the comfort of my home and get groomed. Desiree was on time, she took time to let Tristan warm up to her, she was so gentle and has the experience to gently handle my elderly dog, she cleaned up after, she was so friendly and easy to talk to and Tristan looked wonderful afterwards! She even helped put a name to a possible health problem just from hearing Tristan cough so will ask my vet about it. I am so happy to have found Desiree and she has gained a permanent customer.

We hired Dani to walk our dog Max about a month ago and she has been very responsive to our needs, responsible and professional. Most important, she is caring and has Max's needs in mind whenever she walks him.

We left our dog Milly with Emilia for three days. Emilia and her family treated Milly as part of their family. We were thrilled and so happy to find someone so caring and concerned about our dog's welfare. Milly had a great time. And we have arrangements to leave her with Emilia again. We highly recommend her for your pet. She gets a gold star in our book!🐶

Our senior dog was wandering near our pool and Heather rushed right over to put her back behind the gate so she couldn't fall in. This dog is 17, can't hear and can hardly walk. I was worried about leaving her with a pet sitter but I now see how dedicated Heather is and I am much less worried now.

I have used Melinie as a cat sitter twice so far and plan to continue using her services! She is kind hearted, reliable, and has a wonderful relationship with cats & animals. I'm impressed with her knowledge & experience and feel very safe leaving my cat in her care. I have used her for a weekend as well as for two weeks. For the extended two week visit, my cat actually stayed with Melinie in her home and got the social attention that she needed. She cares for food, litter box, brushing, playtime, medicines, and even house chores such as watering plants and checking mail. She even took the initiative to send me regular updates while I was gone, which is most appreciated! I highly recommend Melinie if you want someone to care for all of your pets needs while you're away. You will definitely be at ease knowing she's caring for your kitty or pet!

Claire has taken care of my dog, Loretta , for over 2 yrs. I travel for work and I always know that my dog will be loved and well-cared for while I’m away. It’s such a relief knowing that Loretta is in such good hands. I highly recommend petbuddies!! Claire truly loves Loretta like her own.

I love dogs! I enjoy walking dogs and interacting with all dogs. I have owned up to five dogs at a time. I'm an animal lover, and I would love to walk your dog!

Are you going on a vacation but can't travel with your loving pet? I can pet sit for you! I love animals. I also walk dogs.

I am a dog sitter for reasonable price. I also can walk your dog during the morning or the night. Thanks for choosing me.

I love animals of all sorts so I am pleased to take your pets on walks as much as needed. I truly have a special love for animals and love being out and about with all of them. If you are looking for a person who you can trust and know your family member is in good hands then try me out. I take great pride in how i treat all of them.

I love dogs and believe they like to be walked. Well, I like walking and decided this is a good fit. I need to supplement my income due to divorce and age (I will find it hard to start work in my normal field). I'm flexible and easy to work with. Dogs are like children to me; they will be hydrated properly and happy to get out.

I am a homemaker. I would love to help taking the dogs for the walk or feed the pets while you are on vacation.

I have an upbeat and happy feet going for a walk. I will walk your dog around the path at a park, up the hill and around the corner. Your dog will do walking and just a wagging.

I walk dogs, I train, play, parks, toys and I make my own healthy treats. I am available when needed. I am very flexible.

I've grown up around animals. I have had four dogs so far. Right now I have two greyhounds. I have dog sat and house-sat. I've taken cared of all types of animals by walking them, feeding them, and playing with them.

      Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What does a dog walker do?

We all know our dogs love going on long, adventure-filled walks, but jobs and family and commuting can make it difficult to give them the leash time they deserve. You can hire a professional dog walker to make sure your furry friend gets adequate exercise and outdoor time each day. A professional dog walker may be an individual contractor or work for a dedicated dog-walking company. In either case, you want to make sure the pro has the appropriate insurance in case of an emergency. Some people opt to give the dog walker a key to their house; others to have them pick up the dog from the yard. Dog walking can happen as often as multiple times per day, or just a few times a month as needed. Here are some questions to ask when you are interviewing a new dog walker:

      • Will you or someone else be walking my dog?
      • Do you have a backup plan if you can’t make it for a scheduled walk?
      • Will you walk my dog by itself, or do you walk several dogs at once?
      • What are your different walk routes?
      • When will you pick up and drop off?
      • How will we communicate?
      • Do I have to commit to a schedule or are you flexible?
      • What’s your cancellation policy?
      • What’s your response plan if my dog gets injured or becomes sick?
      • How and how often do I pay you?
      • Do you offer package pricing if I buy multiple dog walks up front?

How much do dog walkers charge?

The cost of dog walking depends on several factors including length and frequency of dog walks, the number of dogs on the walk, distance to your house, and any additional services you request. The national average cost range for a dog walk is $10-$20, but that price will vary based on where you live in the country and the regional cost of living and doing business.

The longer the dog walk, the higher your costs will be. Dog walkers offer a range of walk lengths, from 15-minute potty breaks to long hikes of 120 minutes or more. For example, a dog walker may charge $15 for a 15-minute walk and $35 for a 35-minute walk. Requesting that your dog be the only animal on the walk will typically mean a higher cost than if you permit your dog to be walked in a pack of dogs. You may be able to get a discounted rate if you have more than one dog to be walked. For example, a professional dog walker may charge $28 for one dog or $33 for two dogs on a 60-minute walk. If you need additional help — like feeding the dogs or giving them medication — dog walkers may be able to provide this service at an additional fee. Dog walkers may charge higher rates for walking your dogs on holidays.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
