My Background:
I began playing tennis in high school and continued the sport throughout college, which is where my passion for movement began. Throughout my athletic career I experienced different injuries, both small and large, that inhibited my ability to play the sport I loved so much. It was then that my interest in corrective movement and proper body mechanics began to spark. My first step toward this passion was in 2011 when I completed my massage therapist certification and began working in various massage therapy studios. In 2013 I graduated from Brian University with a degree in Advanced Personal Training and Exercise Science. I then began my training career working in several athletic facilities with a focus on Olympic Lifting clients. In 2015 I was hired at Lifetime Fitness in Roseville, California where I worked as a muscle therapist and personal trainer until 2021.
The Mission of Mattis Movement:
In my ten years of experience in different training environments, a commonality I began to notice was the gap between personal training and physical therapy. This gap would often lead to clients being unable to reach their goals, injuries, or losing motivation to continue on their fitness journey. My passion soon grew to helping my clients learn correct movement patterns through muscle release and properly breaking down their foundational body mechanics. I believe that intentionality in each training session ensures I am building my clients from a foundational level, so they are able to attain what might have otherwise been unreachable goals.
My passion for corrective movement separates me from many in the personal training industry in that my focus is on helping educate my clients on how to move their body well in order to feel their best. A favorite quote, which I firmly believe in is, “Move well, and then move often”. I believe in helping my clients focus first on their ability to connect with their body well so they are able to reach whatever goals they have.
