Michael was awesome and came to install 6 ceiling light fans. Our home was prewired in each room and we bought fans/lights from home depot. Michael and his coworker showed up promptly on time and they were here for 5 hours working continuously. They tested all the switches to ensure that everything was working correctly. I was thoroughly impressed by his professionalism and efficiency. I would highly recommend him again in the future and we plan to use him too again. Thanks!

I hired Simply Drywall to insulate and drywall two walls and the ceiling in my garage. I also had them build a room in the garage (framing, doorway, and drywall). The estimate provided by Shane was reasonable and realistic. The work was completed on time and on budget. If I have another drywall project I will most likely hire Simply Drywall again.

Luis and his crew were very professional. They removed my wallpaper in less than a day. He did the ceiling, walls and interior closet the next day. All the edges were knife straight and there were no paint spills anywhere. When I expressed some doubt about the finished color on one wall, Luis offered to repaint it with a different shade at no cost. I decided to live with my color selection but was impressed with his willingness to leave me a satisfied customer. He did.

Jeff and his daughter did a wonderful job in painting my front room, dining room, kitchen and hallway. The colors are perfect and really opened up the place. I can't wait to have him do my bathroom and bedrooms. One great selling point for me, was that he loved dogs and oh do I have dogs...

We asked Pedros Painting to paint cabinets in a rental kitchen. He removed the cabinets and sanded and painted them. Came out amazing. Before and After pics posted. We asked Pedros Painting to paint the outside of the front of the building. He and his crew did an excellent job in replacing rotted siding and painting. He painted the inside walls of the front unit of our duplex, which came out excellent. He performed a full paint of the entire rental unit in the back of our duplex and did a good job! He is responsive, on time and offers great value. We were very happy with all the work he did for us. The last picture is Adees with paint on his teeth, hair and face. He is not afraid of hard work. He also communicates with the customer along the way to make sure everything is what the customer wants. At the end of the job, he again calls the customer to check on the work and he does more touch up so that the customer is happy. Thank you Adees!

I had several bids out for interior painting for my home project and Isaac had the most reasonable price of them all. I was doing a renovation for my home and he painted the entire interior of my home to the exact specifications I requested. From accent walls to painting my cabinets in my bathroom to painting my stone fireplace, everything was done w/ quality. This was a big renovation with many unexpected issues so I asked Isaac to add/change/modify many things during the middle of the project. He was always flexible and agreeable in adding any changes I requested. I was really satisfied w/ the work and it turned out better than I expected. We communicated frequently whether it was phone, email or text on updates. Isaac was a true professional. I will be using Isaac again for painting my exterior and referring him to anyone else that needs painting work.

I would hire A Better Choice Painting again. I was in a time crunch and they stayed pretty late on the first day to get the job done in my dead line. I would haven given 5 stars but the estimator said they would pull the handful of screws nails out of the walls and putty before painting and they only puttied the holes and didn't remove anything. I would have removed the screws in the garage and little nails in the house if I knew they were just going to paint over them. The main reason I gave them 4 stars is because they left 3 stains on the carpet. One was from the bottom of their ladder that wasn't on a drop cloth and two look like they were brought in with shoes or something. I may not have noticed any of them if I had not had the carpets cleaned 24hrs earlier. I think both of my issues could he managed though. I didn't have much time to inspect their work.

Garrett and his team did a fabulous job installing pressed tin tile on the ceiling of our store (hiding ugly patches); Garrett took a lot of care during the installation, especially with measuring the area where the tile was going to be placed. I really appreciated how thorough and responsible he was from beginning to end. I highly recommend him and his team for any construction job you might have.

We had Mark and his team pain the outside of our home. We had to replace some of the siding on the home but after the painting you could not tell the old siding from the new. The whole house looks new again, and its 30 years old. We could not be happier!!!

I replaced my old shake roof with a composite roof. When I had the shake roof I had several leaks in the roof which damaged my ceiling dry wall at several upstairs locations. I contracted with Daryl's Handyman Service to repair the damaged drywall areas. Daryl completed the repairs with excellent workmanship. The most major repair was performed on the master bedroom bathroom ceiling. Daryl's work in the bathroom was exceptional as shown in the attached photos. Daryl not only repaired the drywall damage but he also painted the entire bathroom using his own initiative. Our bathroom looks great. My wife and I are very pleased. Daryl also performs fence repair work. We plan to contract with him in June or July to perform over 140 feet of fence repair. I highly recommend Daryl for any home repair needs.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much do painters cost?

The national average cost for an interior painter ranges between $450 and $900. Interior painters can tackle everything from complete color makeovers in each of your rooms to touching up an accent wall to painting pieces of furniture. The square footage and complexity of the project, along with the materials needed, are the main factors that will affect cost. Other factors include whether you supply the paint yourself or want the painter to do so, whether you move the furniture and do the prep work or ask them to do it, and whether any repair work is needed on the walls. Painting the ceiling and the trim will also have an effect on cost. The type of paint you choose can also raise or lower your house painting cost. A gallon of paint may range from $20 to over $100, depending on quality and brand. Ask your painter if they charge per hour or per square foot, and how much you can save by doing prep work (moving furniture, etc.) yourself.

How much does it cost to paint the interior of a house?

Interior house painting costs are calculated on a few key factors. Nationally, interior house painting projects range from $200 to $2,500. The wide price range indicates how much square footage, paint selection and labor can affect cost. One pro uses a laser to measure each room, subtracting the size of the doors and windows, and then bases the quote on the square footage of the actual surfaces to be painted. Painters may provide you with savings if you opt to paint your entire home rather than just having one room or an accent wall painted. For example, the average house painting cost for an 8x12 room with 8-foot ceilings is roughly $200, when contractor-grade paint is used. Painting ceilings, baseboards and frames can also affect cost. Pros may charge per linear foot to smooth and paint baseboards. In one area pros might charge 50 cents per linear foot to paint baseboards, while pros in another part of the country could charge $1.50 per linear foot for the same task. Painters may charge flat rates for painting door and window frames, with one charging $20-$25 and another $60 per door. Geography and regional costs to do business play a major role in the cost of interior painting. The same painter in a rural region has less to pay in taxes, transportation, insurance and overhead than they would in a major city like New York.

How much does a painter charge per room?

The cost to paint a room will vary based on the size of the room, the type of paint you select, any ceiling or trim work needed, and any repairs needed. If no repairs or other additional work is needed, painting a room with contractor-grade paint could range from $1 to $2 per square foot, including materials. Selecting a luxury paint (some cost more than $100 per gallon) will certainly increase your house painting costs. Here are some additional examples of average house painting costs, per room:

  • 12x12 room with a 9-foot ceiling: about $125
  • 12x12 room with an 8-foot ceiling: about $100
  • 14x16 master bedroom with a 9-foot ceiling: about $150
  • 14x16 master bedroom with an 8-foot ceiling: about $125
  • 16x16 living room with a 9-foot ceiling: about $175
  • 16x16 living room with a 20-foot ceiling: starting at $225
