Mercado's Tree Service provided excellent service in trimming our 40+ foot tree in our front lawn. They did a beautiful job and for a very reasonable rate. They demonstrated utmost professionalism in all aspects of the job. In addition, upon our neighbor's request, they were able to trim our neighbor's backyard tree and they, in turn, were satisfied as well. I highly recommend, without reservation, Mercado's Tree Service!

Mark and Michael did an excellent job trimming and thinning for us. We only have 1 tree, so they were able to fit us into their schedule very quickly. They made sure to give us exactly what we wanted. They were on time and cleaned up when they were done. We absolutely recommend them and we will be sure to call them again.

Thank you, Sergio, Juan and your crew. Our backyard looks wonderful. Rodriguez Gardening came to our home promptly, they gave me a quote for landscaping and trimming our backyard. I found it was a fair and reasonable so I decided to hire them. They came the following Monday morning and got right to work. The trimming was very professional and not overly done, the bark laid out nice and they cleaned up without a trace of leaves or branches. I would definitely hire them again for any landscaping project I have in the future.

Superb! Kevin (owner) is very pleasant, friendly, and easy to work with. He did major trimming on a Mulberry and an Oak tree. He also did major tree trimming on a long driveway (private road). He and his two helpers showed up exactly on time, worked quickly and efficiently, and cleaned up everything. These men were masters at space management--that means cramming what looked like a dump-truck size load of limbs and debris into the back of a full-size pickup. I would definitely hire again. And yes, his price was very reasonable for all the hard work they did.

I've never had a better experience with a tree service. Our trees had not had any trimming for several years. We also needed to have 2 trees removed. The crew arrived before 8AM and worked a full day to complete the project. They ground the stump of the 35 year old silver maple that had to go due to root encroachment of our house's foundation. The crew did a very good clean-up. A week later Juan dispatched one of his guys to return and plant a new tree to replace the silver maple. I will always use this company for my tree service. Oh yes. The agreed cost was fair and reasonable. I was also impressed with how well maintained their trucks and equipment were. Thanks again Juan!

We hired De La Cruz Tree Service to remove trees, aloe plants, trim several trees, hedges, cactus and plant a palm tree. I received an estimate on Thursday and they were able to do the work the next day. They did an impeccable job, our yard looks amazing. The price was reasonable and they were absolutely professional from start to finish. As new homeowner's my husband and I were looking for someone who we can use regularly and we have found them. Thank you Balter and crew you will defiantly be hearing from us again.

As a landlord working from a distance, All Season Landscaping was great! I have two rentals and I created a 4-way group texting so that we would all be on the same page. Jerry returned texts promptly, set up the appts. to trim trees in both back yards, was on time, quick, cleaned up all cuttings, sent me before and after pictures, and called to verify he had completed the job! I would definitely recommend him to any other landlords or homeowners!

EcoCut and Trim came and gave us a very reasonable quote. They were courteous, they listened, and they exceeded our expectations for sod in our backyard. We had a space that had a lot of crushed granite, had uneven ground, and required them completely replace the existing sprinkler system from the previous owner. They were able to do all of this and lay sod in a short period of time and guaranteed the sod and any broken sprinkler parts. Our sod is doing better than we expected, even with the extremely hot weather we've recently had with just a little watering. In short, we will hire this company again in the future, not only to construct a deck, but to do additional landscaping design and installation. Great job!

Jose responded within an hour or so of my inquiry and even came out to do a quote on Labor Day! He finished the job (painting trim of my house which became exposed after replacing gutters) in the time quoted and great quality. I would hire Jose again for a future job.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost to trim a tree?

The national price range for tree trimming is $270-$450. Tree trimming is often done by a professional arborist who is trained to safely trim and prune trees for both the health of the tree and the safety of the residents and their property. Trying to do your own tree trimming is not advisable unless you have the proper know-how. Tree trimming companies may charge an hourly rate for their services. The hourly rate may be higher or lower for different trees to reflect the relative safety measures, skill, equipment or people power needed to handle the job. For this reason, most tree services provide free estimates.

One example of an hourly rate for professional tree trimming services is $150 per hour. Costs may be under $100 or could be higher than $300 per hour, depending on variables such as proximity to buildings, health of the tree, height and diameter of the tree, and type of tree trimming desired. Geography and regional cost of living and regional costs to do business will also play a role in your tree removal costs.

How much does it cost to remove a tree stump?

Once you have a tree cut down, you’ll probably want to remove the tree stump as well. You may want the stump removed for aesthetics, the tree stump could be diseased, you might want to prevent regrowth, or you may find the roots are causing problems and need to be removed. Tree removal costs don’t always include the cost to grind out or dig out a tree stump after the tree has been felled and the trunk removed. The national average cost for stump removal ranges from $150 to $200. There are two main methods for dealing with tree stumps. In grinding, pros use a chipping machine to grind away the above-level tree stump until it sits just below the soil surface. Tree stump removal entails lifting the entire root ball of a tree out of the soil. Removing the stump will leave a hole in the ground and also take more time, labor and money than stump grinding. Here are some examples of average tree stump removal costs:

  • Stump grinding: $2-$4 per inch.
  • Tree stump removal: average of $60-$350.

The final price will depend on the stump’s size, condition, location and condition of the soil around it.

How much does it cost to remove a fallen tree?

If you need to have a tree cut down, have you planned what will happen next? Arborists often charge an additional fee to quarter and remove the fallen tree from your property, so anticipate this as part of your tree removal costs. You can elect to have the wood cut for use in your fireplace, or you may prefer to have it hauled away completely.

Tree removal costs may vary based on the height and the width of the felled tree. Size affects the labor required for removal, which will be reflected in the cost. For example, a tree service company may charge an additional $100-$120 to haul away the pieces of a felled tree. The service may cost as little as $75 in some regions and more than $150 in others. Regional labor rates, the cost of living and the cost to do business in your area will be reflected in your tree removal cost.

How much does it cost to cut a tree down?

When you’re ready to have a tree on your property come down, it’s time to call an arborist. The national average price range for tree-trimming costs is $270-$450. Tree removal costs can vary based on the height, diameter, location and health of the tree, and on whether you want to remove the stump. Height plays a major role in tree removal costs. Small trees, no more than 30 feet tall, are usually thinner in diameter and easier and safer for an arborist to manage. Removal of a small tree can cost anywhere from under $150 to over $450. Removal of medium-height trees, from 30 feet to 60 feet tall, could cost anywhere between $150 and $850 or more. Tall trees, typically 60 feet to 80 feet tall, may start at $500 or cost more than $1,000 to cut down. As the height and diameter increase, so does the cost.

Location is critical, too. Removing a tree in an open space is quicker and presents fewer obstacles than removing a tree that is growing flush to your house. Arborists can assess your tree and provide you with quotes based on the variables involved. For example, removing a medium-size hackberry tree that was growing too close to a home — the roots were damaging the home’s foundation — cost $1,500. This price included rope-down, house protection, tree quartering and stacking, and stump removal.

How much does it cost to have your lawn mowed?

Regular lawn maintenance can do wonders for your home’s curb appeal. Professional lawn care prices will vary based on the regional cost to do business and regional cost of labor, the size of your lawn, and any additional services you may desire such as edging or mulching. The national average for lawn mowing costs is $30-$50. Pros may charge an hourly rate, a flat rate or by the square foot (an acre contains 43,560 square feet). Square footage rates factor in the professional’s time, the use of their equipment, and the gas to operate the mower. Distance may also affect cost: If you live outside the company’s standard service range, you may pay an additional travel fee. Here are some examples of average prices for mowing and lawn maintenance:

  • Up to 8,000-square-foot property: $30 per week/$120 per month.
    • Bimonthly: $40 per service/$80 per month.
    • One time only: $45 per service.
      • Prices include mowing all turf grass areas; trimming grass away from fences, structures, trees, and lawn edges; and clearing or blowing all grass trimmings from driveways, sidewalks, curbs, etc.
  • Hourly rate: $25 per hour (including travel, equipment costs and labor).
  • Lot size:
    • Smaller lots in subdivisions: $35.
    • Half-acre lot: $50.
    • One-acre lot: $100.
