FAQs
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
I charge $30/hour unless student wants 2 or more hours of tutoring each week, which I then drop my rates to $20/hour. Group rates are also available if interested.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I attend the classes that tutors who work at csus and srjc are required to take to discuss and learn new ways to deal with students in different situations that you might find yourself in an effective and positive way. I have also taken education classes and am certified in cpr and first aid and have passed the cbest as well.
- How did you get started doing this type of work?
I originally entered college as a engineering major two months after I graduated high school. I started working in the tutoring center at Santa Rosa Junior College during my third semester at the college. I tutored mathematics up to first semester statistics at the drop in tutoring center and on a one on one basis as private weekly sessions as requested by students who needed help in their math classes. It was while working as a math tutor that I discovered that what I really enjoyed about the engineering classes was the math and critical thinking involved and that I truly enjoy teaching students that they CAN learn math and statistics, that it just takes some people more time than others. The look on my students faces when they finally understand the concept they have been struggling with leaves me with the best feeling of showing, proving, to a student who thinks math is hard and of no use, to not only understand math but maybe to even enjoy the challenge that math proves to be to me at times as well.
