I was having trouble dealing with feelings of guilt and anxiety around the recent passing of my father.  I felt like we never had a chance to talk and exchange a real heartfelt farewell.  Rev. Uki, a warm and caring counselor, obviously understood and had great empathy for my feelings. She helped me to make a loving connection with my father where I felt I was able to give and receive the blessings I needed to exchange, and I came away with a feeling of love and peace.  Since then I have been able to proceed with enthusiasm in my daily life without so much dwelling in the past.  Thank you Rev. Uki! I will come to Rev Uki again in the future, if I am ever faced with emotional challenges like this again.

I have been working with Erica for three months now. She has helped me let go of so much stress and all my anxiety. Her ability to listen and guide me into a more connected and aware state of mind has opened my eyes and heart to what my souls longs for. I have shifted and healed parts of my relationship, focused in on new business ventures, and began to accept myself for exactly who I am. Highly recommended!! PJ is filled with life and I always see him inspiring conscious change wherever he goes! He sees life on a bigger scale and always comes from a place of love. He has helped me a lot by reminding me that the bottom line is peace and that all is well so that the energy of anxiety gets turned into enjoying the moment. He is very knowledgeable about Kundalini breath work tools as well. Thankful!

I really found a great deal of value working with Mrs. Lynn regarding my anxiety and stress issues. It was something I had ignored a dressing over the years and it notice Lee got worse with time. I found myself unable to function at work or with family and friends and was in desperate need of help. I am forever grateful for our paths crossing.

My son has had anger issues since he was 5yrs old as well as depression and high anxiety, he is now 17. We've been to other therapists over the years and nothing was helping and he was starting to rage with his anger. Since we have been seeing Jenny for the last year, his whole demeanor, attitude, and the way he looks at things has changed. We talk and communicate a lot more, he expresses things to me that he didn't before, he's more social with friends inside and outside of school. He can go in completely angry and upset and by the time they're done he's a whole new person! She has worked wonders and I've referred so many of my friend's kids and others to her. She was definitely an answer to my prayers!

I’ve worked with Karen individually, receiving counsel/coaching for personal and professional goals, as well as having an intuitive reading done for the first time in several years. Karen approaches all those she encounters with love and acceptance which instantly puts people at ease and allows them to take full advantage of her many gifts and talents. For me, she is able to help accurately articulate areas of my life that feel “stuck” or “blocked” so I can continue moving forward in my journey with the clarity required to maintain focus and confidence, all the while learning to trust my own intuition. I would highly recommend scheduling individualized time with Karen if you are in need of a little clarity on your own journey. Whether you are looking to heal old wounds or need some assistance in gathering forward momentum, Karen’s unique combination of aptitudes and openhearted style will leave you feeling peaceful and centered. I’ve done all of my individual sessions with Karen via phone and have found them just as effective as if we had met in person, which helps in the logistics of a busy schedule!

I utilized Stephane Allinquant's Strategic Life Coaching to get a fresh start in connecting with my young adult daughter. She and I had been estranged from each other for over two years. It was tremendously painful for me and I just didn't see a good path forward. I was having trouble communicating with her without blaming her or being judgemental. Stephane listened very well and asked me the 'good questions' that I needed to be asked. He helped me get unstuck and gave me hope that things could be better with my daughter. Once he helped me understand, Stephane then helped me focus on better approaches for communicating that were positive, not blaming. He gave me new confidence and the specific skills to handle things more positively. He helped me through the big changes I needed to make and I am so grateful that he was there with the 'right stuff' when I needed it so badly. Now, with my new tools and confidence, my daughter and I reached a wonderful breakthrough and we are able to be close again like I'd hoped for so long. Thank so much, Stephane for helping my daughter and I make our breakthrough!

I first started working with Ellyn because I felt fat, I know that's a brutal word, but that was it. My world, heart, soul revolved around the fact I hated myself for my body weight. Couple that with high anxiety and a toxic environment at home, and you have a rocking time bomb. Ellyn was that one specialist they send in to diffuse the bomb. It wasn't easy work. She listened to me, to my needs, but those were things I'd never discussed with anyone before. NOT EVEN MY PSYCHOLOGIST if that says anything!! I mean, there were times I'd be at a session with him and I couldn't get anything out, I acted like I was okay. But with Ellyn, I had a huge rush of anxiety after a dispute with my significant other, and immediately ran to her for help and guidance. That brings me to another great point: her job is not to fix your life for you, it is for YOU to fix your life for you, but she will show you better coping mechanisms than the destructive behavior you've been engaging in. She is unbiased, fair, and resourceful as heck. Like I said, my problem was my relationship with my body and food (did I mention how great she words things to be easily understandable?) One of the first things we did was establish my goals, my fears, and my past memories. We used an app that helped teach me coping skills for my views on food and eating, and although it was hard to form a habit of checking in and actually describing my feelings, I managed to get it down pat because Ellyn checked in on me and engaged me. She never once shamed me, only got me to think deeper about situations, behaviors and patterns of thought until I retrained my own brain into looking at things with more love and light. As of today, the relationship with my body continues to thrive. I no longer exercise for weight loss, rather to feel strong and for energy release. I don't find myself pinching my body and cringing at the imperfections, I embrace them. My train of thought has deviated to a more beautiful, strong, and dedicated path. It's always a learning process, but I'm happy I had Ellyn to help guide me into my path.

My husband owns a clinic that treats a lot of chronic pain patients. We thought about offering our patients a Love Your Fear session. This was brilliant! Our patients loved Shikha. She was mindful of their physical needs while with the most professional, calming, patient, gentle, and calming way which helped our patients which may had anxiety about trying something new. She held a group of 6 patients into a guided meditation, which was the first mediation for most. She did a wonderful job explaining the purpose, and the benefits for the mind and body. We will definitely contact Shikha again to use as a resource or tool for our patients. I’d highly recommend her. On a side note, I’ve personally learned the art of mediating at The Deepak Chopra Center through some of his classes and consider myself one that mediates and finds many purposes through mediation. Shikha is highly qualified and definitely expierenced, her energy is amazing.

I'd feel selfish if my husband kept this gem of a find to ourselves. Cynthia is simply AMAZING! Here's our story: My husband and I both suffer from anxiety/panic attacks, which in some cases results in depression. The one set of my anxiety was when I truly started to grieve the loss of my mom in 2007. My husband couldn't finger point where his started . We've both been on numerous anti- anxiety/ depressants . I've had the occurrence of suicidal thoughts etc, on these medications. My husbands Dr. Recently put him on Wellbutrin. It made him mean and angry, I could see the anger in his face. A side of effect of this medication : FITS OF RAGE!!! We were recently married in July and took our honeymoon in Sept. With our family to our time share in Cabo. We planned for 7 days in paradise, making memories with the people we love. Well this was cut short to my husbands severe panic attack on day 3. He could not get out of bed, he said his body was hurting all over, he was vomiting, and crying because of the pain. As his wife I felt so helpless because there was nothing I could do. My bestfriend was in so much pain and all I could do was hold it together for him. We got on a plane that day(Saturday) and came home. We found Cynthia on The Thumbtack app!!! We made an appt the following Thursday for hypnotherapy. The very first time my husband met with Cynthia he said he felt so much better, he felt relief. After some discussion with my husband, I decided to meet with Cynthia as well. As I stated above she is AMAZING! Her office is cute, comfy and so relaxing. If you suffer from anything , from something as simple as feeling not great about yourself to severe panic attacks like my husband. GO SEE HER!!! Grateful husband and wife!!!

I am super excited about finally having found an answer that doesn’t involve taking awful pills (pills that make me feel like a zombie) for my depression and anxiety! Thanks to Christian’s help, I have learned how to use food to help my brain feel better and found new relief using neurofeedback. This approach goes beyond my expectations. I am happy to refer clients to her, trusting that this process truly works!

Working with Lisa was my first experience with a creative life coach, and am I ever glad I started with her! It was all I ever hoped for and more. I was looking for focus and clarification on my music career goals, but I got so much more from Lisa. She helped me with technical issues and was so full of great ideas I had never thought about that each session was an exciting and inspiring exchange. Since working with Lisa, I managed to improve my online business presence, I'm actually selling my music online and feel my music is finally spreading beyond my local sphere of influence. My stint with Lisa was definitely one of the best investments I have ever made in myself. I know now if I ever feel stuck and need direction or motivation, I'll come back to Lisa for more sessions. She is truly inspirational. Thanks Lisa!

        What is a psychologist?

A psychologist is a professionally trained mental health professional who helps patients navigate challenging life situations or mental health issues. To become a psychologist you must earn a doctoral degree; qualifying degrees include a Ph.D., Psy.D. or Ed.D. To actively practice, a psychologist must be licensed in their state and maintain good standing. Psychologists are trained to administer tests that can evaluate a patient’s cognitive strength and weaknesses, intellectual skills, vocational aptitude and preference, personality characteristics, and neuropsychological functioning, explains the American Psychological Association (APA).

A psychologist meets with patients in an office and may work with a variety of methods, depending on patient need, such as cognitive, behavioral or interpersonal.  According to the APA, common reasons a person may visit a psychologist include:

        • Dealing with depression, anger or anxiety over a long period of time.
        • Help with a chronic condition that is interfering with their lives or physical health.
        • Help with grieving and other abrupt transitions.
        • Overcoming addictions.
        • Managing chronic illness.
        • Breaking old and harmful patterns of thinking or behavior.

What are the types of psychologists?

Psychologists are healthcare professionals who use scientific methods to understand the relationships between the brain, environment and behavior. Psychologists may focus on research — studying how the brain and various environments drive behaviors to better understand the issues that trouble patients and society as a whole — or they may focus on practice — interacting with people using therapeutic methods. The American Psychological Association shares some of the more prevalent types of psychologists:

        • Clinical psychologists assess and treat mental, emotional and behavioral disorders.
        • Cognitive and perceptual psychologists study human perception, thinking and memory.
        • Community psychologists work to strengthen the abilities of communities, settings, organizations and broader social systems to meet people’s needs — such as improving support for victims of natural disasters, or working to improve health policies.
        • Counseling psychologists help people understand and take action on everyday issues, career and work problems, and serious adversity.
        • Developmental psychologists study the psychological development of the human being throughout life.
        • Educational psychologists concentrate on how effective teaching and learning take place.
        • Engineering psychologists conduct research on how people work best with machines.
        • Environmental psychologists study the dynamics of how people interact with their environments.
        • Evolutionary psychologists study how evolutionary principles such as mutation, adaptation and selective fitness influence human thought, feeling and behavior.
        • Experimental psychologists study cognitive processes, comparative psychology (cross-species comparisons), and learning and conditioning.
        • Forensic psychologists apply psychological principles to legal issues.
        • Health psychologists specialize in how biological, psychological and social factors affect health and illness.
        • Industrial/organizational psychologists apply psychological principles and research methods to the workplace to improve productivity, health and the quality of work life.
        • Neuropsychologists and behavioral neuropsychologists explore the relationships between brain systems and behavior.
        • Quantitative and measurement psychologists focus on methods and techniques for designing experiments and analyzing psychological data.
        • Rehabilitation psychologists work with stroke and accident victims, people with mental disabilities, and those with developmental disabilities caused by such conditions as cerebral palsy, epilepsy and autism.
        • School psychologists assess and counsel students, consult with parents and school staff, and conduct behavioral interventions when appropriate.
        • Social psychologists study how a person’s mental life and behavior are shaped by interactions with other people.
        • Sport psychologists help athletes refine their focus on competition goals, become more motivated, and learn to deal with anxiety and fear of failure around competition.

        How much do therapists cost?

If you are experiencing a challenging time, have mental health difficulties, or just want professional guidance as you move through life, a therapist can provide relief, tools and structure. The national average cost for a therapist is $80-$100 per hour, although prices may be higher or lower depending on geographic location and the experience and training of the therapist.

Psychiatrists, psychologists and licensed therapists are all health professionals who offer various modalities of therapy. Ask questions about the type of therapy they specialize in (such as cognitive or behavioral, etc.) and their area of expertise (such as grief, anxiety, body image disorders, etc.) to help you find the right fit for your needs. Therapy sessions are typically 50-60 minutes long.  The patient usually meets with the therapist in their office; sessions may also be held remotely (via Skype, etc.) or in a clinical setting. Psychologists, psychiatrists and other therapists who have earned advanced degrees will typically charge higher rates than other licensed therapists. Depending on your diagnosis, your health insurance may cover your therapy costs.

Can a clinical psychologist write prescriptions?

To be able to write a prescription, a clinical psychologist must practice in a state that permits them to do so, and must either have a master’s degree in psychopharmacology or have completed the required advanced training program. According to the American Psychological Association (APA), five states currently permit psychologists to write prescriptions: Idaho, New Mexico, Illinois, Iowa and Louisiana. Many psychologists who are not able to write prescriptions work in partnership with psychiatrists, pediatricians or primary care doctors to help their patients who need medication.
