Wedding and Event Catering
For the past 10 years, a group of my college friends and I get together for a Christmas gathering. This was our first time having our dinner party catered and I'm so glad we connected with Joan. She is absolutely (!) fantastic to work with and she prepared an excellent Italian meal for us. We all couldn't stop raving about the food and we are all looking forward to working with her in the future.Dec 28, 2015Verified

Private Cooking Lessons
Chef Joan is wonderful! She's patient, explains instructions and gives direction clearly and is easy to follow the steps. We started with spaghetti & meatballs and caprese salad and I've was blow away by how great it all tasted. For the first time ever while cooking, I actually said "that was fun"! I can't wait to have her come back in a few days!Feb 3, 2020Verified

She sounds great but after all arrangements were made and guests invited she cancelled. Granted she did give 2 weeks notice and I appreciate that but now I need to go to plan B!Jun 1, 2017
Event Catering (Drop-off)
Joan has a great personality & seems to convey understanding of her clients wants & desires. I really can't give a decent review only because I don't know how the food arrived prior to being put in oven??? I'm all about presentation & when I arrived home from our formal wedding ceremony & dinner to our after party the flavor was average & presentation was very disappointing. Joan herself is great with customers & very friendly.Feb 1, 2016Verified
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)? It is complicated to price a job when you have limited information. Communication is the key to a win win situation. Food costs vary from week to week right now. The drought, gas prices, etc are all responsible for the fluctuating prices so giving a quote is difficult. Most of my clients set a budget and I make it work for them. If it means less expensive foods then so be it. I will still succeed in making everything taste amazing. When I teach cooking skills I like to buy all the ingredients we will be cooking with and have my clients eat the food they learned to make. My fee for teaching is consistent but the food prices vary depending on what they want to make.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?I am always educating myself on new techniques, recipes and cooking skills. Since this is my passion, not just a job to me, it is a joy to learn new things.
- How did you get started doing this type of work?I have had the good fortune of being an art teacher, daycare owner and nanny and all of these jobs were great, but my passion was always cooking and teaching people to cook. I cooked for and taught dozens of friends and the families I worked for. They all asked my why I was not doing it full time. Once I made the decision to devote myself to doing what made me the happiest, I never looked back!
