I've been teaching for 15 years. My focus is making sure my students are enjoying the instrument while they are being challenged. Playing guitar should be fun!

Both my son and I take lessons with Ian. He is an excellent instructor and coach. He is a good listener, and gives supportive and responsive feedback tailored to your specific needs. Ian is a dynamic instructor, able to coach the less musical student, like me, and the more natural student, like my son. Ian is enthusiastic, polite, professional, energetic, and intelligent. He was recommended to me by a friend, and I would also strongly recommend Ian as instructor!

I owe almost all of my guitar-playing ability to Ian. I took lessons from him for several years, and he is an incredible instructor. Regardless of your skill level, he will have something to teach you. He's super friendly, has tons of patience, and his feedback was always constructive and encouraged me to play more. As his student, I always felt like he cared about me and actively wanted me to get better. He taught me soloing, theory, how to improve to my ear, plenty of songs, and I had fun doing all of it. Ian has all of the qualities of a great teacher, and I highly recommend taking lessons from him.

FAQs
What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
Lessons are $30 for the half-hour. Usually lessons are booked in blocks of four so you have one half-hour lesson a week each month. Payment is made at the begining of every month.
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
I like to get students reading tabliture and playing songs as soon as possible. I usually walk them through a really easy first song both reading and playing along with the track. Usually starting with something easy like "Knockin' On Heavens Door" . Once we get a song or two under our belt I let the students start picking the songs so long as they are reasonable choices.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I started taking lessons from a very young age and have toured and played in live bands for the past 15 years. I went to school for both classical and jazz guitar and studied music theory as well. I work for a small San Diego based record label called The Redwoods playing guitar and writing songs for their artists. Artists include: Birdy Bardot, The Midnight Pine, Dani Bell and the Tarantist, Rebecca Jade and the Cold Fact, Cardinal Moon, The Heavy Guilt, and Louise Walker.
