Sarah Swafford says, "Timeless Design and Build I wish there was a way to give you 10 stars on here. Your company made my dreams of a beautiful backyard even better than I imagined. You took my dirt lot of a backyard and turned it into a cool sophisticated lounge with an area for my future family to grow and play. This company has helped save us money and worry in the future by regrading and placing adequate drainage in the low parts of the yard. Andrew, the owner, was at our build every day making sure every piece of the build was not only to my standard but his. He takes so much pride in his work and it shows not only through talking with him but in every photo he shows as examples or ideas. When he first came out to quote us on the build we were a little cautious that he talked us out of a few things but after talking with other companies we realized that he was not only helping us tailor our dream backyard but also gave us valuable knowledge such as where to look for contractors licenses, bonds, as well as saving us some time and money on ideas that were not suitable for our yard or our future. My husband and I appreciate Andrews's eye for design, I said I dont want my backyard to look like a driveway and he worked with his guys to make my massive concrete pad look like refined stone tiles. Andrew was so kind throughout the process of working with me as my ideas changed slightly, instead of telling me a flat no his answer was always Let me see what I can do or That would be so cool, let's also do this. Not only did my backyard get completed in record time, but the crew took excellent care of my home making sure they cleaned up at the end of the day and came back after the yard was done to scrub on their hands and knees a few paint marks I saw on the concrete. Their attention to detail was impeccable, they saw some old holes in my stucco and filled them on the spot for me since I could not reach them.It still doesnt feel real looking out at my yard, it has changed so dramatically for the better and has so much more useable area now. I love my massive concrete patio with my lounge area, the concreted side yard where I dont have to hurt myself dragging the trashcans out every week, and the soft turf where I can sprawl out and enjoy some sunshine and lawn games. The companys motto is A company that simply does what they say. and wow do they follow that to a T. I cant wait to expand my yard further up the hill in the future, I will be calling Timeless Design and Build back! Check out how great they made my yard"See more

FAQs

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does brick repair cost?

On average, brick repairs will cost you around $500, with a range of between $350 and $600. However, be aware that a number of factors will have a large influence on this cost. First is the severity of the problem. Some brick repairs are as simple as applying new mortar — others require removing the brick entirely and fixing the substrate. If budget is a concern, contact several brick masons for cost estimates to find the best price in your area.

Are cracked bricks a problem?

It depends. Sometimes, you might not require repair work — but you should still hire a professional to see if the cracks in your bricks are a serious threat to your home’s foundation and structural integrity.

Cracks (particularly larger cracks) can present a problem. If you have stair-step cracks or horizontal cracks, there may be an issue with your home’s foundation. Wider cracks can also allow water to infiltrate and cause damage from freezing and thawing. Insects can also enter wider cracks and cause more problems (and headaches).

Who do I hire for brick and stone repairs?

If you have brick and stone repairs that need to be done, search for masonry services near you. Masons are skilled tradespeople and specialize in building and repairing stone, brick, concrete, tile and other similar materials on structures. They work with these materials as well as the mortar that holds them together and are the pro of choice when repairs are needed.

Hire the right mason based on the repairs you need — some masons specialize in working with brick, concrete, natural stone or other materials.

What does a stone mason do?

A stone mason builds structures like buildings, walls and piers out of stone. They may use natural stone, pre-cut stone, slabs or other types of stone to get the job done. Other jobs stone masons take on include laying walkways, curbs, pizza ovens and other structures or landscaping works. It’s common to hire a stone mason to perform certain parts of home building, such as an interior or exterior stone wall.

Can crumbling bricks be repaired?

Crumbling bricks, otherwise known as spalling bricks, can often be repaired. The process involves removing and repairing the damaged mortar, cleaning the surface and then also removing any damaged bricks to prevent the problem from spreading. Contact a brick mason near you to fix your crumbling bricks.

What are the different types of masonry?

In terms of the type of material used, there are several different types of masonry. These include brick, cast stone, glass block, concrete block and other types of building stone such as granite, limestone or marble. This type of construction is highly durable.

What does a brick mason do?

Brick masons, otherwise known as block masons or bricklayers, are professional builders of fireplaces, walls, houses and other structures using bricks or other rectangular blocks. Brick masons also work with terra cotta, concrete blocks and precast masonry panels. Part of their skill is working with mortar, which is used to bind the bricks together.

What are the signs my stones or bricks need repairs?

The following are common stone and brick issues that will likely require a professional’s skills and expertise to fix:

  • Cracked bricks and mortar, including vertical corner cracks
  • Brick erosion and degradation due to water damage
  • Mortar deterioration
  • Bowed or bulging bricks
  • Spalled bricks, which are those that have chipped away or fallen off
  • Efflorescence, or visible soluble stains on the surface

If you notice any of these signs, reach out to local brick or stone masons today.
