Very nice to deal with and a fair price. They fixed the fence (filled it in with new planks). However, the gate still sags and the issue wasn't addressed even though it was clearly not opening or closing. I understand it was late on a Saturday afternoon and they had probably been working all day, but the gate sag should have been fixed.

Great work! I originally called to have two toilets installed. As it turned out more work was needed to get the job right. White Residential Services finished the job properly.

Jose was prompt (early even!) and quick to respond to all of my messages and calls. At first there was a mixup regarding the quote and what material I needed for the fence. Jose explained the price difference and he purchased the materials I needed that morning to make sure he could finish the project that day. He was very pleasant and easy to work with, and the fence looks great!

I decided to go with Juan's company for the fence work and did not regret my decision. He's professional and expedited the work to within a couple of days. It's a 4 star right now and I'll probably upgrade to 5 stars, once the second phase of the project gets done. Juan gets the job done fast and right and he's very communicative.

Great work. The fence looks great! Took a little longer than expected because Keith was working on his own, but it was worth the wait for the job that he did. Thanks Keith!

Alfonso provided a very reasonable estimate to trim 5 palm trees right here on Thumbtack, just based off of pictures I had uploaded. That made this whole process so much more stress free. He arrived with his crew on time and did a very professional job leaving the trees looking clean and hauling away all the debris. His crew was supposed to clean debris that had fallen over the fence onto my neighbors backyard but forgot to do it. The neighbor was furious to see debris on his new outdoor furniture. Having said that, I applaud Alfonso’s professionalism in apologizing and returning the very next morning to clean the neighbor’s area of all the debris and dust from the trimmings. I will definitely hire him again and recommend to anyone thats looking for value for money and professional outcomes.

Daniel came out to provide a bid on Monday, then it rained HARD on Tuesday, yet the crew was here as promised at 7:00am on Wednesday morning to grind the stump down prior to the fence company getting here. They did a great job with the stump and roots and cleaned up well afterwards. I grabbed a few extra business cards from Daniel as I will surely be referring him to neighbors.

JSJ Services built a fence/gate and a shade structure, re-landscaped a steep backyard bank, and trimmed several trees for us. Jason's response was prompt and he got his crew out there quickly to get our job done. The work was completed in a timely manner and as we asked. All the crew were super conscientious and friendly. We plan to re-landscape our front yard in the next year, and we are so pleased with JSJ that we plan to hire them again for that work. They are good people. Thanks Jason & Crew!

Jaime came out quickly and provided a reasonable bid for a short stretch of fence. I wasn’t sure what color to do for the fence, as the rest of our yard fence is either brick/ rock or iron. Jaime identified a stained gate and suggested that we stain the fence to match - great idea! He created a cedar fence to fill gaps where we couldn’t finish the brick wall. The fence was completed in a day, which was awesome because my dogs had been locked in for a couple of weeks while the brick wall was being built. Jaime was on time, communicated well, listened to my requests, and completed the work on time. He left the site neater than when he began. Jaime has extensive experience in concrete work. Definitely call him if you have a concrete job, as well. The last two days, Jaime has been working on my neighbor’s gate! They were so impressed with him they hired him on the spot when they say the work he did for me.

I called Alpine Fence for a quote to replace a 25ft section of my fence. Mike set up the appointment and he arrived at the time we agreed upon. Mike when over all the work that will be done and offered ideas to even save costs. Other companies I contacted either didn't show up or never got back to me even after I left a message. The quote was very reasonable. Ben, the foreman from Alpine Fence, showed up on the agreed date and walked me through what work him and his crew would be doing and ask me if I had any question or concerns. Mike came by the job during the construction of the fence to make sure I was happy with the work so far. After working most of the day to finish replacing the section of fence, Ben again walked me through the finished work to make sure I was completely satisfied. I was COMPLETELY satisfied. Both Mike, Ben and his crew were very friendly, honest, helpful. I would recommend Alpine Fence Company at time.

I needed a new fence carpenter to build a fence and add a wall inside my home that was being remodeled. The fence looked beautiful and the wall was done well so I decided to ask if they also did bathroom or kitchen remodeling work. Bill said that he had a wide range of work he could perform or manage for me so I started small and had them redo a small bathroom. The bathroom work included cabinets, bathtub, shower walls, new travertine floor and painting. After the bathroom was complete and saving up for a few weeks we moved on to the kitchen. He assisted in the design and layout with the designer. The work took several weeks but it was beautiful and was much better than the drawings. After several months of work on my home, it is perfect with there help. I can't thank them enough and will pass there info on to friends.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much is a redwood fence per foot?

A redwood fence is a long-lasting home investment that can add beauty and major curb appeal to your home. Redwood fence installation costs are higher than those for pressure-treated pine or cedar, due to the relative scarcity of the wood. Pricing can vary for redwood fence installation costs based on regional labor rates, current prices of redwood planks, the height and linear feet of the fence, and any custom designs or features. Redwood fences, in addition to being beautiful, are naturally more resistant against bugs and rot than less hardy or dense woods. Redwood fences also generally fare well in wet or humid climates due to their natural oils — which also make them easier to maintain. Materials costs per linear foot for redwood planks can range anywhere from $6 to $20 or more, depending on grade, quality and height.

How much does it cost to put up a chain-link fence?

Chain-link fence is one of the most affordable options for adding safety and value to your home or business. The national average chain-link fence installation cost is $2,750. Chain-link fences are relatively simple for the pros to install; a fence of less than 150 linear feet can often be put up in under one day. A good rule of thumb is to add an additional workday for each additional 100 linear feet of fence to be installed.

Chain-link fence installation costs are affected by the fluctuating cost of steel, regional labor rates, the height of fence you select, and the features you select, such as a powder-coated finish. The industry standard is galvanized steel, which is rust- and corrosion-resistant. Galvanized chain-link fence installation cost, including labor and materials, is typically $12 per linear foot. For a more contemporary and elegant option, black powder-coated galvanized chain-link fence might cost approximately $15 per linear foot on average, including materials and labor. For industrial sites or businesses, 10-foot-high galvanized chain-link fences may provide additional security, but also have an added cost. A 10-foot-high chain-link fence could cost $17-$18 per linear foot, including labor and materials.

How much does it cost to install a vinyl fence?

A new fence can mean added home value, increased curb appeal, and improved home security. The national average vinyl fence installation cost is $4,600. Vinyl fences have a number of appealing qualities such as their durability, their lasting good looks (they don’t weather like wood does), their versatility, and the fact that they require little to no maintenance such as staining. Fencing companies typically charge per linear foot for vinyl fence installation. They calculate their estimates based on materials to be used, height of fence, linear feet of the proposed fence, and the accessibility of the terrain. If the workers need to level the land before work begins, your vinyl fence installation costs will probably increase. Vinyl fences are typically more expensive than wood or chain-link. For example, one company might charge $19-$22 per linear foot for a basic 6-foot vinyl privacy fence. Another company might charge $25-$35 per linear foot for standard vinyl fencing, while decorative fencing with custom detail could increase that cost to $50 per linear foot. For a 6-foot-high white vinyl privacy fence with two walk-through gates (plus demolition and disposal of the old fence), the cost of the total project could run $8,000. A 4-foot-high, 36-linear-foot white picket vinyl fence with one gate could cost $2,600.

How much does it cost to install a wood fence?

Help define your property line, protect your home and yard, and boost your curb appeal with a new wood fence. The national average for wood fence installation cost is $3,250. Wood fence installation costs will vary based on your geographic location, the type of wood you select, the height and style of wood fence you desire, and the condition of your property. Pressure-treated pine is a common and attractive choice that is usually resilient against rot and bugs. Cedar is another budget-friendly option that, although more expensive than pressure-treated pine, can be more affordable than redwood or teak. A wood fence requires maintenance to ensure its long-term health and beauty, so keep future staining and painting costs in mind when you’re calculating fence installation costs. Here are some examples of how height and material affect the approximate cost of wood fences:

  • 6-foot-high, pressure-treated pine fence: $15-$17 per linear foot.
  • 4-foot-high, pressure-treated pine fence: $13-$20 per linear foot.
  • Cedar fence: $18-$25 per linear foot.
  • 6-foot-high, double-sided (meaning both sides are uniform), pressure-treated pine fence with 6x6 posts: $25 per linear foot.
  • 12-foot-high, pressure-treated pine fence with custom detailing: $75 per linear foot.
  • 6-foot-high, pressure-treated pine fence with a custom lattice top: $30-$50 per linear foot.

How much does it cost to install a fence gate?

Adding a gate to your fence can be a practical way to provide access to a yard, work area or outdoor living space while ensuring safety and privacy. Gate installation costs will vary based on the gate material you select, the size of your gate, whether you install a fence at the same time, and any special features you’d like to add. Standard opening size for a single-wide gate is 4 feet; a double-wide gate is 8 feet. A small gate may be for decoration; a double-wide gate can be mounted on a rolling caster system to allow access for cars or wide loads. Here are some examples of average fence gate installation costs:

  • 4-foot, single-swing chain-link gate: $100 for materials and installation costs.
  • 28-foot wheeled chain-link gate on a caster system: $800-$1,000 for materials and installation costs.
  • 4-foot, single-swing wood gate: $75.
  • 8-foot double-wide wood gate: $150.
  • 4-foot white vinyl walk-through gate: $300–$400 for materials and installation costs.
  • 8-foot, double-wide white vinyl gate: about $800 for materials and installation costs.
  • White vinyl gate fence more than 8 feet wide: $1,200-$1,500 for materials and installation.
  • Arched black powder-coated aluminum pool gates: $175-$200 per gate.
