When I started running at age 57, Jane worked with me on specific self defense moves. We practiced a variety of quick and effective responses. I felt MUCH more confident after working with her. She was terrific--just what I needed. Jane also highlighted prevention and situations to avoid that were not so obvious to me before we went over them. This was very helpful. Training with Jane has changed my life. She is very encouraging, knowledgeable, and teaches self-defense in an easy and effective manner. I came to Jane after a frightening experience on a public bus in downtown San Diego made me realize I needed to learn how to defend myself. A few weeks ago, a large man became suddenly enraged after he thought I was staring at him. I am a short woman and had barely glanced in this man's direction. The man had been sitting at the front of the bus and I was in the back. When the man ran to the back of the bus to corner me to scream and curse at me for "staring", I felt helpless. I no longer feel helpless and know exactly what to do thanks to Jane. I highly recommend her to anyone who wants to learn how to defend themselves in a fun and stress-free environment. Finding and signing on with JANESELFDEFENSE has resulted in a new lease on life for me. I am a senior female suffering with scoliosis and needed a Personal Trainer who would tailor a program specifically to fit my unusual needs. - What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?I believe everyone should have access to affordable self-defense and personal training. Because of that, I offer a sliding scale and will work with you to make it happen! -No charge if you are a victim of sexual assault or domestic abuse -10% discount for active military, veterans and seniors Average: 65/hour; half hour is $45.00 Ask me about packages and referral programs to save $$$. The more you train the more you save. The most popular package is 10 private lessons for $540.00. You also get the benefit of working with one of my male partners who is stronger, and faster and will help with grabs, holds, and a true professional who will give his professional opinion on your readiness to fight!
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?I always like to start with a phone call or email conversation to hear about any questions or concerns you may have about training. From there we'll schedule our first session together. At the first session we'll talk more about your goals and get moving! My ultimate goal is that you feel comfortable. You'll find my style is supportive and empowering. Self-defense is a skill everyone should learn. I make the training fun, realistic and set in a great environment.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?Street fighting training (various forms). I mix no-nonsense street fighting with martial arts. First Degree Black Belt in Karate from the Gary Fookes Institute of Tae Kwon Do. I began training with Master Fookes who studied under the world famous Jhoon Rhee. Jhoon Rhee was a student of the great Bruce Lee. I continue in the style of these Masters, my mentors. Cane Master under the Cane Masters® System of Self-Defense. Member of the Cane Masters International Association (CMIA). I teach self-defense using a cane for both fitness and defense. I received my Black Belt in the Cane Masters System of Self-Defense. Board Certified Personal Trainer and Certified Weight Loss Specialist through the National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM).
